"Why do you search for the living one among the dead?"
Luke 24:5

St Trh..ts, V.I

Viola Nathalia Blake was born on September 21. 1911, the first of ten
children bom to Alexander and Anesta Calistro of St. Thomas, US. Virgin
Islands. She grew up in St. Thomas and became deeply involved with religious
and family activities.

Her formal education was completed through the V.I. public school
system, Hampton Institute, University of Puerto Rico and the University
of the Virin Islands. She spent most of her adult life as a teacher, first as
a nursery school teacher with the V.I. Department of Education, then as
an elementary grades teacher at Sts. Peter & Paul School. She later joined
the V.I. Department of Welfare as an educational specialist with the Bureau
of Day Care Services.

Viola was married to Arthur R. Blake and was the mother of three sons
and a daughter who died as an infant. Following her husband's death in 1942.
she took on the role of raising her sons as a single parent. It was because
of this new responsibility that she gave up her occupation as a seamstress
to pursue her career as a teacher. Thousands of people today recall Mrs. Blake
as their second grade, fourth grade, or Sunday School teacher. She will
be remembered for her strictness and dedication.

Mrs. Blake was privilepgd to be honored on several occasions by civic
and religious organizations of the community. She was designated Mother
of the Year twice by two different community organizations. She was active
in religious organizations such as the Legion of Mary and enjoyed going
to Mass on a daily basis.

Mrs. Blake will be mourned and remembered by many relatives and
friends. May sht enjoy eternal bliss.
