took up surveying as his profession. His ambition to be a
surveyor was realized in the early sixties but before this he
married Therese Pascal of Riviere Cyrique on the sixth day oT
January, 1955, a very loving, faithful, dedicated wife and
mother whom he leaves behind, his seven children namely:
Rossie, Nina, Terry, Mannie, Sandra, Avril and Regina.
Although it was not his calling to be a priest, his zeal to
work for the Lord was ultimately realized when it became
possible for him to be a deacon. He began his preparation for
the permanent diaconate in Dominica but in 1980 he and his
family migrated to the United States Virgin Islands and
settled in St. Thomas for the past six years. This sacrifice was
not for the benefit of himself but for the benefit of his
children. This was the kind of man Fofoy was, an unselfish
and loving father.
- He continued his preparation to become a deacon in St.
Thomas, and on the tenth day of June 1984 he was ordained a
Permanent Deacon. Fofoy's dream had now been realized.
He endeared himself to everyone with whom he came into
contact, and he was loved even for his voice when intoned at
the proclamation of the Gospel.
In the last days of his life he visited Tortola to see his sister
and he made many friends there. All who met him reflected
on his piety and meekness. In the words of_one of his
daughters, Sandra, "Daddy was a kind, good and loving father."
The news of Fofoy's death shocked Dominica, St. Thomas,
and even Tortola and as far afield as Canada, Curacao, England
and the U.S.A.
Emmanuel (Fofoy) will be greatly missed by all who knew
and loved him. May his soul rest in peace.
