Deceased: EMANUEL A. BERTRAND
Known familiarly as Eddie Bertrand
Eddie was born in St. Thomas, V.I. on May 27, 1922, son of
Ernest A. and Josephine Bertrand nee Florant. Ie was baptized
at SS. Peter & Paul Church andattended SS. Peter &Paul Elementary
School, and then went on to Charlotte Amalie High School. On
graduation from Charlotte Amalie High School he went to study at
IIampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia where he received his BA.
in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II from 1943 to 1946.
Eddie served as Comptroller at Savannah State College for
a number ofyears. He married Margaret Ernestine Faucette who also

While at Hampton he belonged to the Glee Club known as

early years attended St. Benedict's Parochial School.
On returning to St. Thomas he served in the U.S. Health Depart-
ment and was for some years a Deputy Commissioner of Health.

Johnny ITarms Marina. For years he pursued this interest in sport
fishing and as manager of Johnny IHarms Marina. Ile was examiner
and recorder for the International Game Fishing Association, and
(luring those years St. Thomas was the locale where so many records
Were set in fishing tournaments, including the big Blue Marlin.
He succumbed with a stroke after the Fourth of July I4shing
years was a shut-in at home.
