Abstract: The Enid M. Baa Library of the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DLAM) has acquired an extensive collection of memorial booklets since the early 1970's for U. S. Virgin Islands residents. Booklets are usually more than 10 pages long and give details of the life and family connections of the deceased.

TDavid Cmanuel Baptiste

David Emanuel Baptiste courageously departed from this
world on the afternoon of Christmas day, December 25, 1997,
after a period of prolonged illness.
"Jungle Queen," or "Brother B" as he was affectionately
known by his family and friends, was the second child born to
Jane Ann Edwards and Nathaniel Baptiste on August 2, 1914,
in the village of Bolans, on the island of Antigua.
In 1942 he migrated to St. Thomas and spent the rest of his
adult life on the island.
David was very well known on the island because of his
work as a taxi driver.
"Brother B" was a member of Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist
Church for over twenty-five years and was honored in 1996 for
his years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Senior
Choir and the Men's Group.
David was outspoken, caring, humorous and friendly. He
will be remembered for his hearty laugh and his words of
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Christobel
Baptiste, three daughters, Olga Baptiste Ross, Elaine Witten
and Jacqueline Fields; four sons, Hilson Baptiste, Eric Baptiste,
Dean Baptiste and Kenneth Baptiste: four sisters, Lorene Brown,
Lauretta Edwards, Viola Williams and Una Joseph; one brother,
Elton Brown; three sons-in-law, Robert Ross, Eugene Witten
and Sydney Fields; fourteen grandchildren and five great-grand-
children, nieces, nephews, step-children, in-laws and many
close friends.
