1911-1995


Louise Solina Wheatley Arnett was born in Santo Domingo, Domini-
can Republic on July 6,1911, to Osorio S. Wheatley and Anna C. Fleury
Wheatley. At an early age she came to St Thomas when the family
relocated here, the birthplace of her mother. Many persons may remem-
ber her as the owner-operator of Lindberg Bay Beach Club and later of
Louise's Place at the site of the present Wheatley Center. Prior to her
retirement eighteen years ago, she was a department sales supervisor at
The Continental, Inc.
Louise was married to the late Phillip Arnett. Although Mrs. Arnett
had no children of her own, she loved children and raised Thelma
Robinson as her daughter and Thelma's four sons and their children as
she would have her own blood relatives. Her love for them was recipro-
cated through the love, dedication and devotion Thelma and her family
manifested, especially during the last years when she was virtually inca-
pacitated by her illness.
In addition to helping raise the children Mrs. Arnett was active in
several community and church activities. Some of these included serving
as a member and officer of the St. Thomas Chapter of AARP and a
member of that organization's Sunshine Club which visited shut-in mem-
bers, and volunteer service at the Hospitality Lounge. She was also a
member of the St. Thomas Chapter of the Friends of Denmark, a member
of the Friendly Circle and of The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of America, of Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church, and par-
ticipated in other activities of the congregation. As her illness progressed
she spent most of her time at home with her beloved grandchildren and
great' grandchildren. Her gentle, kind manner was known to many in our
community and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

The family of the late Louise Solina Wheatley Arnett
takes this opportunity to say publicly, "Thank you," to
Drs. Roy L. Schneider, Murli Daswani and Paul Maynard
for the dedicated attention and kindnesses they mani-
fested during the lengthy illness of Mrs. Arnett. We
thank also the nurses at St. Thomas Hospital for the
patience and understanding they showed her during her
stays at the Hospital.

And we are thankful to all who have joined us at this
Service of Thanksgiving of Mrs. Arnett's life and for their
many expressions of sympathy on her passing.
