Plaiting Maypole
THE PICTURE at left
shows two of the dancers

Williams^ Cance Group of
Haiti executing the "Maypole
Ribbon African Dance." Dur-
ing the dance., both young
men and women from the
group danced around an 18-
foot Maypole to plait it. The
dance which is of both .sio-
pean and African origin fea-
tured chanting, drumming
and choreography.
