What am
- KARL PAIlBOOSINGH is
a founder of the Contempor-
ary Artists Association, a
group of 85 leading artists in
Jamai'a. He is one of the
Caribbean writers and art-
ists who. at the 1970 Conven-
tion in Guyana, put forward
plans for the first ever
Caribbean Festival of 'Cre-
ative Arts. Guyana invited
him to Carifesta 72;
He has been staying in Guy-
ana again for the past 10 days.
officially as a guest of the
Guyana Government, in the
posh Echil'bar Villas re-
served for VIP's.
In the past few days a
friend who did not know he
was in the country met him
and asked in pleased sur-
prise: "What are you doing
here?"
The distinguished artist re-
plied' "I myself am Wonder-
ing the same thing." Karl
Parboosingh was not joking.
He was dead serious.
"I don't know 4vaVt's go-
ing on," he confessed. "I
seem to be the only Jainai-
can artist invited to Carifes-'
ta. And there's no Jamaican

artist is preparing to return
to Jamaica where he has
several mural commissions to
start work don including one
for Jamaica .Hose in King-
ston. ..
In the biennial Interna-
tional Art Exhibition in Bra-
zil last year he was Commis-
sioner for the Jamaica par-
ticipation, .between a six-
month stint ps artist In resi-
*denes at Suitex University
in Britain and a similar posi-
tion at the University of
Georg:a in the USA.
Next.year he is heading for
Africa mainly -fo the Black
Arts Festival in Lagos, Ni-
geria.

invitation of the Guyana
Government, he left behind
his latest big ant exhibition
at the Kingston Sheraton
Hotel which was one of
seven one-man exhibitions
for 'Jamaica's 10th independ-
ence anniversary celebra.
