Cubans

make hit

at Linden
T H E Cuban Carifesta
group, Conjunto Folklorico
Nacional, thrilled and de-
lighted a large audience at
VMakenzie Sports Club
ground ast Thursday night
in its programme of music,
singing and dancing entid
"Cuban Extravaganza.
The progranmme started at
8'clock and ended shortly
after 9.30, and although the
audience applauded warmly,
many people were disap-
pointed as htey expected
wore enateetainment.
'Hi ghiats of the presenta-
tion were the folk dances
and the music of the Ara-
gon Orchedtra. Paticularly
delitful were the alacran
and the boyeras, two very
old and popular dances that
Cubans perform during their
Carnival in July. The young-
est danger was a girl of 18,
and tvh eldest was a woman
of 72.
Earlier in the afternoon,
the Cubans, who numbered
61. were taken around on a
drive to a bauxite mine, and
parts of Linden. During their
after-show dinner at BBlir's
.Delght the Mayor of Lin-
den, I&r. Egbert Benjamin,
thanked the Cubans on be-
half of the people of Lin-
den. for their performance.
A spokesman for the Cubans
replied fiftingly.
