LET IT M

PERMANENT

THE PRESIDENT
LAUNCHES
CARIFESTA.

The pleasant task has fallen
upon me to declare CARI-
FESTA formally open.
There remains little to be
said after the Address of
Welcome which you have just
heard. I wish, however, to
*thank everyone who in any
way added his quota to make
a success of this our first
Caribbean Festival of Creative
Arts.

SPIRIT

I hope th~i the spirit of
CARIFESTA will remain in
our hearts permanently; and
when the pageantry, and the
singing, and thedancing end at
midnight on September 15th,
and the participating artistes
return to their respective
countries, this spirit will be
carefully fostered. It is my
belief that this will bring us

President Arthur Chung

closer together as nations, and
we will be better able to
understand each other's
viewpoints and aspirations.
The time and energy spent in
arranging this Festival will
therefore not have been in
vain.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we
are all looking forward to the
treat which is in store for us; it
therefore gives me great
pleasure to declare open thed
Caribbean Festival of Creativ6
Arts. 1972.
