CARIFESTA



Thousands of handicraft


pieces will be on display


THOUSANDS of pieces of
handicraft done by talented
Guyanese, will be part of the
attractions for Carifesta.
The items will comprise
several displays at the Na-
tional Park and other centres
in Georgetown.
Made out of indigenous
material such as tibisiri straw.
mucru. calabash, balata, local
wood, Iibi, beads and animal


skins the items are expected
,o make a hit with the visit-
ilg Carifesta personnel, inter-
tatirnal V.I.P.'s guests and
Guyanese on holiday.
The National Park is at
present one of the main cen-
tres and already a big Curio
shop has been set up there.
Other centres could be locat-
ed at Festival City, the Na-
tional Co-op Bank. Royal
Bank and several hotels.
Most of the items on dis-


play would, be for sale during
Carifesta.
All of the perfected handi-
craft work was done by per-
sons in the country spear-
headed by a Curio and Handi-
craft Committee.
The Community Develop-
ment Division of the Minis-
try of Co-operatives and Com-
munity Development and the
Interior Development Depart-
ment greatly assisted in thb
collecting.
