to open

Carifesta
PRESIDENT Mr. Arthur
Chung will officially de-
clare open the Caribbean
Festival of Creative Arts
(CARIFESTA) on Friday.
August 25. at 5.30 p.m. at
the National Park.
Prime, Minister Mr. Forbes
Burnham, whose brainchild
the Cultural Festival is will
also give an address at the
opening ceremony.
A special flag-raising cere-
mony of the participating
countries will be held dur-
ing the opening session at
which Ministers of Culture
from the Caribbean region.
government officials and ar-
tistes will be present.
The Guyana Police Force
Band, the Chronicle Atlan-
tic Symphony Steelband, and
a group of masquerade
dancers will also take part
in the opening programme.
The entire opening. pro-
gramme for the first, Cul-
tural Festival will be broad-
cast live on GBS and Radio
,Demerara.
