"The Legend of Kaieteur",
one oa Guyana's main con-
tributions at CARIFESTA '72
to be held from August 25
to September 15 begins to-
morrow at the Bishops' High
School at 7.30 piAn. Mem-
bers of the choir of 150 voices
who took part in the 1970
presentation of this work are
invited to attend.
The "Legend of Kaieteur"
ohich is a musical setting f
A. J. Seymour's epic poer-
by Philip Pilgrim was ori-
ginally performed in 1944
and had its second set of per*
formances during the Repub-
lic Celebrations of 1970.
It was one of the recom-
mendations of the Writers
and Artists Convention of
1970 that the "Legend of
Kaieteur" be presented along
bhelines of the original in-
tention of its composer, by
the inclusion of choreo-
graphed dances. This is being
planned for the CARIFESTA
production. The orchestral
part which was originally
scored for three pianos will
now be re-arranged for a
steel orchestra and two
pianos. The arrangement is
being done by Bill Pilgrim
the brother of the composer.
Minor changes are being
made to the choral setting
which will consist of 150
voices. There will be two
presentations of the Legend
of Kaieteur at the new Cul-
tural Centre. during CARI*
