Canary's

entry gets

the nod
SOME 80 judges, includ-
ing young people and youth
leaders from all over the
country have adjudged Lord
Canary's "Welcome to Cari-
festa" the winning entry in
the Carifesta Theme Song
Competition.
Canary's calypso came out
on top from a field of 15 en-
tries played.for the judges
and an audience at the Gov-
ernment Technical Institute
on Tuesday night.
SThe Mighty Panther's Ca-
rifesta '72 was second with
Richard Noble's "Carifesta
Theme Song" third.
At the GTI, Carifesta
Commissioner Lynette Dol-
phin had reminded the
judges that they would have
to live for the next few
months with the song they
selected as the winning en-
try.
The sophisticated lyric of
Canary's calypso must have
appealed to the patriotism of
the judges. But the verses
are heavy-handed and the
banal melody does not pro-
vide an ideal theme song for
the bash later this year.

LORD CAN4BY, with ear- theme son competition "Wel-
phones, listeT.,bove to a come to Carifesta" was
playback of hfs entry when adjudged the winner on Tues-
it was recorded at the Police day night at the Government
Force Band room, Eve Leasy Tedhical Institute. Below
before the judging. are Panther and Ivor Lynch
His entry for theCarifesta who were placed second and
third respectively.
