WHAT CARIFESTA'S MANY AIMS ARE


APART from helping tp
forge a greater cultural
awareness among th e
many peoples of the Carib-
bean and Latin America,
CARIFESTA aimsatbeing
entertaining, inspirational
and educational.
And this will be pro-
vided by some 100 shows
portra ing the cultures of
t h e 31 participating .
countries. Over sea a
visitors will beiimmersed
in a Festival atmosphere
or artistic creativity
peculiar to the pcoplewho
live il and around the
great guff that is the
Cr'ibbean,
Writers. a r ti st s,
musicians, dancers and
folklorists living in th
Festival City artistic


community will exchange
ideas and techniques in a
u ni q u e cultural at-
mosphere.
A number o( literary.-
symposia and international
exhibitions of paintings,
sculpture. books and
photography, based on the
theme "The Land and its

Peoples" will add to the
educational dimension of
the three-week culture il
exposition.
Although GARIFESTA
has not yet taken place,
questions are being
asked about plans for
future CARIFESTAS.


which must be left to the
creative personalities who
will be taking part in this
f i r st CARIft.STA. a
decision ahi..hwill depend
not merely on boy office
returns or popularity
polls, but on the deter-
mination of the writers,
artists and performers

It is their determination

Caribbean Festival of
Creative Arts. It will be

keep the spirit of
CARIFESTA alixe in the
years-ahead.
