Ceramics

for Carifesta
WOMEN of Mocha-Arcadia
on the East Bank, Demerara
are working on several
pieces of ceramics for exhi-
bition at Carifesta in August.
Under the experienced eye
of Community Development
Worker, Mrs. Masie :Raysido,
they work in groups and
create vases; ash trays, wall
pockets, ornaments, decora-
tive. bbwls and a variety of
artistic shapes.
The women are working
towards self-employment and
have already begun discuss-
ing the formation of the
group into a co-operative.
F~om 9.00 a.m. every day
they knead roll and spin
clay until their pieces take
on definite shapes.
The teacher, Mrs. Rayside,
was. trained in ceramics and
works closely with the group
until 3.30 p.m. every after-
noon. Some energetic work-
ers stay on at their clay
mouldi until 6 p.m.
