galaxy of stars expected

here includes an actress from

the television series

'Young and the Restless'

REGIONAL and world re-
nowned literary icon, Mr.
Derek Walcott and an actress
from the television series
'Young and the Restless' are
among a galaxy of stars ex-
pected here for the tenth
Caribbean Festival of Cre-
ative Arts (CARIFESTA X),
member of the Planning

Committee, Mr. Allan Fenty
announced on Monday.
He said, in a release, that the
visit of the St. Lucian born
poet, playwright, visual artist
and Noble Prize for Literature
winner is being organised by
Guyanese writer and academic,
Dr. David Dabydeen.
Fenty also disclosed that

the television soap opera per-
sonality, who was introduced to
retired Justice Donald Trotman
during a social encounter, has al-
ready contacted the
CARIFESTA Secretariat.
Fenty said the Guyanese
Diaspora in the United King-
dom (UK), United States
(U.S.) and Canada, has been
mobilised through
CARIFESTA X chapters es-
tablished in various cities in
those countries.
"One interesting develop-
ment, in that regard, so far, is
that Guyanese Americans are
planning to return to their na-

tive communities for the August
festival, with a special purpose.
They plan to contribute to
some specific community
projects, likely to be dedicated
to CARIFESTA X, he explained.
Fenty said the delega-
tions, groups and individuals
also interested in the "cul-
tural mecca of the Caribbean
people" include from Brazil,
Venezuela, Austria, Haiti,
Puerto Rico, Ghana, Kenya,
Cuba, Montserrat, Mexico,
Turks and Caicos Islands, St.
Vincent and Nigeria.
