Abstract: Article reports on the "master class" for interested and budding Caribbean writers held at Castellani House in Georgetown during the staging of CARIFESTA X 2008. Notes that both Saint Lucian Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott and, Professor David Dabydeen said the legitimacy of Caribbean dialects as bona fide languages resulted from these being "products of particular historic circumstances" and also that they "constituted the effective medium of communication in specific communities."
Funding: Support for the development of the technical infrastructure and partner training provided by the United States Department of Education TICFIA program.
