Abstract: A summary of the many population groups in the Caribbean, a brief history of the conquest of its varied indigenous people by colonial powers, and a summary of the resulting interweaving of cultures, nationalities and ethnic groups that has enriched cultural life in that region. This culture will be enhanced by its concentration, to be enjoyed by all visitors to and participants of CARIFESTA '72 in Guyana, the first of a series of such Festivals.
