Abstract: A review of performing arts at CARIFESTA VIII, especially events that took place in the city park, Palmentuin. There, simultaneous stages were filled with Caribbean musicians, dancers, actors, dancers and the like, sometimes in multimedia productions. Though the author enjoyed the music, some of the theater, and writers' recitations of their prose and poetry, he notes a disturbing trend in recent CARIFESTAS: fewer plays by famous playwrights and fewer concerts by big name musicians. He mentions a symposium to review the just-ended CARIFESTA to improve future endeavors, and ends the article on a humorous note.
