PAGE 1 May 1 1 t h 2018 The Daily News | Government Press Office May 1 1 th, 2018 Ministry of For e ign Affair s conducts dipl omatic bri efing on ICJ Referendum Pu bic Awareness Campaign Today, May 11th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a Diplomatic Briefing on Belize's Public Awareness Campaign in preparation for the referendum on the referral of the Belize Guatemala Dispute at the Ministry of Agriculture Conference Room, National Agr iculture and Trade Show Grounds in Belmopan. The presentation was delivered to representatives of the British High Commission, embassies and international and regional organizations resident in Belize. Representatives of the diplomatic community were given an overview of the Belize Public Awareness Campaign Plan of Action by His Excellency Alexis Rosado, Ambassador of Belize to Guatemala. Belize Guatemala Joint Commission meets with the OAS The Belize Guatemala Joint Commission met for the second time this year, under the auspices of the Organization of American States (OAS), on May 9, 2018 in Guatemala City. As stated at the last meeting of the Joint Commission, held on March 14, 2018 in Belize, the roadmap was defined for the initial implementation of four of the 13 Bilateral Agreements between the two countries. Those four agreement s were the Movement of Students, the Protection of the Environment, Tourism, and the Operating Hours of Terrestrial Entry Points. The Parties will hold respective technical meetings prior to the next meeting of the Joint Commission which will be held durin g the last week of this month. The CO FCOR expressed concern that the undertaking by both countries and the Organization of American States (OAS), to engage in the design and development of a mechanism of co operation for the Sarstoon River, remains outstanding, and they reiterated their call for both countries and the OAS to redouble their efforts in this respect Read More Attorney General Minist ry issues notice to Justices of the Peace Peace, must co ntact the Ministry to verify their JP status before July 31, 2018. This exercise is being carried out in preparation for the upcoming re registration process by the Elections and Boundaries Department. All Justices of the Peace are required to provide some form of proof of their status. Those who fail to verify their status will no longer be able to use their JP title.
