Many boaters and campers en-US thoroughly enjoyed these improvements. en-US Recently, the state tore down all of these en-US improvements. The people who made these en-US improvements were devastated as were the en-US rest of us! The mayor of Sebastian often en-US enjoyed this island. We were told that the en-US State said that the proper "paperwork and en-US permits" were not submitted. This is ridicuen-US -en-US lous! These people spent a lot of their own en-US money and time building these improveen-US -en-US ments. There was no warning about this en-US destruction and the people would have done en-US whatever the State authorities demanded. en-US What a shame!en-USWhy have automatic and en-US semi-automatic weapons?en-USI am from Canada and have lived in the en-US Unites States of America full time since en-US 2007. I have permanent resident status and I en-US write this message today with a heavy heart.en-US Another mass shooting against innocent en-US people, killing at least 11. Since Sandy Hook en-US there has been just under 2000 mass shooten-US -en-US ings with at least 2,100 killed and around en-US 8,000 wounded. How many of these people en-US would not have been killed/wounded if en-US automatic and semi-automatic weapons en-US were banned for ownership by the United en-US States government? Would there be this en-US many mass shootings (4 or more people is en-US the classification for a mass shooting) if the en-US shooters only had single-shot guns? Of en-US course not! I am not saying to ban guns but en-US why does any American private citizen need en-US an automatic weapon? There are 12 guns en-US per 100 Americans and the next highest is en-US Switzerland with just under 3.en-US The National Rifle Association is a large en-US organization with a very large lobby in en-US Washington. Why do they support Amerien-US -en-US cans having automatic weapons? Why do en-US congress people and senators allow the NRA en-US to have such a large persuasion?en-US I am told by many that changing the law en-US wont get rid of the automatic weapons, they en-US are already out there. I rebut by saying You en-US have to start somewhere." We wont get rid en-US of bad people, they will still be there but en-US Nikolas Cruz who was the shooter at en-US Stoneman Douglas High School only en-US bought the automatic gun a week or so en-US before his assault.en-US I have not seen one political ad speaking en-US against these weapons. They only speak en-US against each other. Before you vote, ask the en-US candidate what their position is.en-US We have to start somewhere!en-USFast train solutionen-USI was up all night thinking about the fast en-US train and what would work came up with en-US the following solution: the train should en-US avoid Sebastian, Vero Beach, Hobe Sound, en-US Jensen Beach and Stuart. Run only local en-US trains there. The train should go from Melen-US -en-US bourne beach airport next south to Fort en-US Pierce, then west of 195 to Port St. Lucie en-US where a bus can take passengers to Mets staen-US -en-US dium, next stop West Palm Beach keeping en-US the beach areas with local trains or bus seren-US -en-US vices. That would be a win win solution for en-US all in this area. As far as the freight it should en-US be routed west of all South Florida as it en-US includes hazardous flammable freight which en-US is never brought up in any conversations. en-US We could use a new party in the USA en-US called the conservative or conservationist en-US party in addition to Republican and Demoen-US -en-US cratic parties. It is about time for changes en-US which are long overdue. Look at the state of en-US Florida and our waterways and the train. en-US We could use a political backer and seek out en-US people that care about this precious planet. en-USGolf carts on the roaden-USThe recent article regarding the City of en-US Port St. Lucie considering an ordinance on en-US the use of golf carts on public roadways, has en-US me scratching my head! en-US In my opinion, allowing this to occur in en-US this is city is absurd, and quite dangerous.en-US With the current levels of traffic flow and en-US congestion, making it legal to do so will creen-US -en-US ate huge problems on many levels.en-US I urge the Port St. Lucie City Council to en-US reject any attempt to allow golf carts on puben-US-en-US lic roads!en-USRoaming catsen-USIt's shocking to think anyone complains en-US about cats not being seen outdoors when en-US responsible pet owners keep their cats en-US indoors.en-US Roaming cats are not only at risk of being en-US killed by coyotes, but they fall prey to foxes, en-US birds of prey, other cats, dogs, cars and, yes, en-US people. Also, roaming cats are a nuisance en-US due to their bathroom habits, midnight en-US fights, and their contribution to the feral cat en-US population if they are not fixed.en-US Roaming cats prey on rabbits as well as en-US 3.7 billion birds each year in our country. If en-US anyone is concerned about coyotes or any en-US other wildlife that seems to be "intruding" en-USon our space (when it has been the other en-US way around), I would suggest that you deal en-US with local government, which is approving en-US the clear-cutting of the habitat of countless en-US wildlife species in this area, forcing animals en-US into our streets and yards.en-US Relocation of wildlife does not work. So, en-US if you're concerned about a coyote or any en-US other animal hurting or killing your cat, and en-US if you are concerned about rabbits and birds, en-US please keep your cats indoors. Thank you. 7 Dont get hooked by phishing emails en-USAen-USs I went through my email this en-US morning (deleting all the spam one en-US email at a time) I couldnt help but en-US notice the number of phishing emails I en-US was getting.en-US The practice of phishing is when en-US someone out there in cyberspace constructs en-US an e-mail to look like its coming from a en-US legitimate source (usually a bank website) en-US when its not.en-US Most of the time, these emails will tell en-US you that (for one reason or another) you en-US need to confirm your user name and en-US password in order to keep your account en-US open. If you dont, they say you run the risk en-US of having your account closed. They usually en-US will include a link to follow and the page en-US the link brings you to looks exactly like en-US what you would expect were you to go to en-US the actual (banks) website.en-US Enter your user name and password, and en-US you can find your account drained in en-US minutes. en-US So, what is one to do to keep from getting en-US scammed like this? Well, to try to answer en-US this question Im looking at some of the en-US phishing bait emails I have received over en-US the last few months (yes, for some strange en-US reason Ive been collecting them) and one en-US reoccurring theme I see is a sense of en-US urgency. Most of the emails will have the en-US original bank (or other organizations logo) en-US making it look like it is from a legitimate en-US source, but it will contain an urgent en-US message.en-US Following are two examples.en-US Example 1: In order to be prepared for en-US the smart card upgrade on Visa and en-US MasterCard debit and credit cards and to en-US avoid problems with our ATM services, we en-US have recently introduced additional en-US security measures and upgraded our en-US software. The security upgrade will be en-US effective immediately and requires our en-US customers to update their ATM card en-US information. Please update your informaen-US -en-US tion by following the link given below.en-US This is to generate a sense of urgency. In en-US this case, if you dont follow the link, you en-US run the risk of having your card stop en-US working due to upgraded software and en-US security measures.en-US Example 2: This is your final warning en-US about the safety of your account. If you do en-US not update your billing information your en-US access on will be restricted and the user en-US deleted. The reason to do this might en-US include: a recent change in your personal en-US information (i.e. change of address), en-US submitting invalid information during the en-US initial sign up process, an inability to en-US accurately verify your selected option of en-US payment due an internal error within their en-US processors. Please update your profile in en-US order to restore your online access.en-US Then they include a link for you to follow en-US to submit the required information.en-US If you ever get an email saying an account en-US you have with some institution is in danger en-US of getting cut off unless you update your en-US information online, a bell should go off in en-US your head.en-US No legitimate institution is going to en-US contact you over e-mail to update your en-US account.en-US If your account were in jeopardy, you en-US would receive a phone call or postal en-US message, not an e-mail.en-US Another thing you can do is hold your en-US mouse over the link they want you to click. en-US Dont click it or fill out any information of en-US course, but hold your mouse over the link en-US and see what the actual address is (it may en-US pop up in a little pop up or reveal itself en-US down in the Status Bar). You will likely see en-US that the address is either a raw IP address en-US (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) or will have your bank en-US name embedded in some other domain en-US name (such as http://your_bank.otherdoen-US -en-US main.com) a sure sign of a fake.en-US If you have doubts and think the e-mail en-US may actually be legit, pick up the phone and en-US call whoever supposedly sent you the e-mail en-US but dont call the number on the email they en-US sent, call the number you have in your own en-US account records. At least you know that en-US number is real. en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. He can be en-US reached at 888-752-9049 or en-US help@Compuen-US -en-US teThisOnline.com en-US (no hyphens). 8 FORT PIERCE -If the dreams of the en-USCity Commission come true, the Sunrise en-US City could eventually see a small fleet of seaen-US -en-US planes ferrying passengers back and forth to en-US the Bahamas, who arrive on the Treasure en-US Coast via high-speed train from Orlando en-US that also brings in workers and visitors to en-US the citys new port complex.en-US City staff presented both transportation en-US concepts to commissioners Oct. 15, creating en-US excitement in the air for those awaiting the en-US renaissance of Fort Pierce. Commissioner en-US Rufus Alexander said the potential of the en-US city having both a seaplane base and Brighten-US -en-US line train station would completely alter the en-US environment.en-US We [would] have a gold mine if we can en-US get our train stop here, he said during the en-US seaplane discussion. It would be almost en-US like Disney World.en-US Commissioner Thomas Perona conen-US -en-US curred.en-US You know, Im just thrilled by all this, he en-US said. Its all related to the community worken-US -en-US ing so hard for so long knowing that some en-US day this community would be a leader in so en-US many different things. Five or six years ago en-US it looked pretty bleak for Fort Pierce, and en-US now were on the cutting edge of everything en-US happening at once -planes, trains and en-US automobiles, horses, boats, kayaks, anything en-US -weve got them all.en-US Administrative Assistant Kaitlyn Ballard en-US launched the discussion with a PowerPoint en-US overview of the seaplane industry in Florida en-US and its two oldest bases, the City of en-US Miami and the City of Tavares in Central en-US Florida. She highlighted the economic en-US boom that Tavares has seen since city offien-US -en-US cials baptized it the American Seaplane City en-US several years ago.en-US Since they opened the seaplane base in en-US 2010, nine new restaurants and bars have en-US opened up, and they actually have 23 new en-US businesses, she said. They estimate about en-US $30 million in new private sector developen-US -en-US ment has gone into their community since en-US their re-branding and since they impleen-US -en-US mented the seaplane base facility.en-US Ms. Ballard said City Engineer Jack en-US Andrews had developed two possible seaen-US -en-US plane base cost scenarios, with both options en-US utilizing the stretch of the Indian River just en-US south of the Riverwalk Center near the presen-US -en-US ent location of the shuffleboard courts. The en-US more expensive option would be a $500,000 en-US pervious pavement construction of six seaen-US-en-US plane bays, a roundabout for passenger en-US pick-up and drop-off, and a ramp for sea en-US plane accessibility to and from the river. The en-US more economical asphalt pavement version en-US would cost about $370,000 and have only en-US four bays. She then put the ball in the Comen-US-en-US missions court to decide whether to contact en-US the Florida Department of Transportation en-US and other agencies to get the planes off the en-US water.en-US If this is something the Commission en-US decides to push forward with, we would en-US look at contacting the FDOT Aviation en-US Office, she explained. Wed apply for a seaen-US -en-US plane base license, and once that is situated, en-US we would contact the Federal Aviation en-US Administration for an airspace review and en-US certification. Once those processes take en-US place, then we would lean on Mr. Andrews en-US to identify funding and administer conen-US-en-US struction.en-US Ms. Ballard then introduced the executive en-US director of the International Seaplane Pilots en-US Association, Steve McCaughey, who has en-US worked with City Manager Nick Mimms en-US and other staff members to analyze the citys en-US potential for creating a new seaplane destien-US -en-US nation in the aforementioned location.en-US As a Florida native who is based here in en-US Florida with our association, anytime we en-US have an opportunity to look at creating a en-US new seaplane base facility, its incredibly en-US exciting, he said. With the help of Mr. en-US Mimms and Mr. Andrews, weve done some en-US forward work looking at this proposed site en-US location and evaluating whether it would be en-US suitable or not, and it is -its very suitable. I en-US think that would be a very fine location for a en-US public seaplane base.en-US Mr. McCaughey emphasized that he had en-US already consulted with the two largest comen-US -en-US mercial operators of seaplanes on the Easten-US -en-US ern Seaboard who were both interested in en-US utilizing a potential Fort Pierce seaplane en-US base.en-US These operators are operating from Bosen-US -en-US ton to Key West currently, he added. en-US Theyre operating at a very high safety level en-US and theyre operating in very challenging en-US conditions -much more challenging than en-US here -if you look at the Port of Miami and en-US Manhattan. Theyre stable, well financed, en-US and currently using the Miami Seaplane en-US Base, so theres a very good analog for this. en-US With our association, Id like to extend our en-US resources to help you make this a reality if en-US you choose to go in that direction.en-US For his part, Commissioner Alexander en-US expressed concern about protecting the baren-US -en-US rier islands the federal government created en-USto protect the downtown waterfront from en-US future hurricane tidal surges. Mr. en-US McCaughey did his best to allay his fears.en-US Ive already done an initial assessment of en-US that, he emphasized. We looked at the en-US small barrier islands and those are not an en-US issue whatsoever. Weve also already looked en-US at the manatee zones and other fish and en-US wildlife considerations, and I believe that en-US you have a very good operational area that en-US keeps everyone out of the manatee areas or en-US the no-wake areas. What that also does is en-US gives some separation between the bridge en-US and the power lines so it keeps the airplanes en-US well clear where they can operate where en-US theres no conflicts with any vertical en-US obstructions.en-US Commissioner Jeremiah Johnson worried en-US about the environmental threat of fueling en-US aircraft so close to the Indian River and the en-US potential for spillage into the waterway.en-US Were potentially creating more impervien-US -en-US ous and hopefully we go to the more pervien-US -en-US ous option, he said. How do you balance en-US that if theres a mobile refueling operation en-US and they come over with the hoses that conen-US -en-US nect to the airplane. How safe is that?en-US Most of the aircraft are fitted with whats en-US called single-point refueling, which is a lock en-US and seal system so there is no spillage, Mr. en-US McCaughey explained. Its what commeren-US -en-US cial airlines use on their airplanes.en-US Some of the commissioners wondered if en-US the river was wide enough for a seaplane en-US approach, and both Mr. McCaughey and en-US Mr. Andrews agreed that space would not en-US be an issue.en-US We do have enough room -weve en-US looked at it in the field, the latter said. The en-US typical wingspan in some of the aircraft was en-US 57 feet. Our channel is close to 150 feet. It en-US will take up the whole channel when the en-US plane comes in, but there is adequate room.en-US Mr. McCaughey also addressed environen-US -en-US mental concerns typically expressed by resien-US-en-US dents, saying that even the federal governen-US -en-US ment viewed seaplanes as environmentally en-US safe.en-US Honestly, were much more environmenen-US-en-US tally friendly than boaters in most cases, he en-US said. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife operates a en-US fleet of 58 seaplanes for doing bird studies en-US and environmental studies, and theyve en-US gone on record saying they use seaplanes en-US because they have a smaller impact on their en-US studies than any other motorized vehicle en-US that they use.en-US Following the seaplane base discussion, en-US Mr. Mimms launched the potential Brighten-US-en-US line station discussion with a brief overview en-US of Fort Pierces historical relationship with en-US the Florida East Coast Railroad, the parent en-US company of Brightline. He addressed the en-US three areas requested by Brightline officials en-US of ridership potential, development potenen-US -en-US tial and community support.en-US We have prepared a very, very detailed en-US statement of interest, he said.en-US As part of that statement, Mr. Mimms has en-US proposed two potential locations for the staen-US -en-US tion: the former 7.2-acre H.D. King plant en-US site and a site along Depot Drive. The city is en-US currently trying to sell the former to a en-US potential developer, while the latter was en-US purchased more recently.en-US if you recall, some of us were here in en-US 2010 when we went through an exercise en-US with Amtrak, and this site was designed for en-US an Amtrak station, he said, referring to the en-US Depot Drive site. This is over 1,000 feet en-US long spanning from Orange Avenue to the en-US Citrus Avenue overpass. Being less than a en-US two-hours drive away helps as well.en-US On the east side of town, between U.S. en-US Highway 192 and State Road 528, on en-US Highway 15, lies Eagle Creek Golf Club. If en-US you happen to be headed to the Orlando en-US airport or Orlando itself, there is a good en-US chance this course falls right along your en-US route. If not, its certainly worth the detour.en-US International golf course architect Ron en-US Garl is a friend of mine and he is rightfully en-US proud of his design work on this course. It en-US is also one of my favorites. Also intriguing en-US is that it plays to a par of 73, a slight en-US departure from the norm. You just need to en-US remember that when you add up your en-US strokes at the end of your round. en-US Another interesting trait of this wonderen-US -en-US ful track is its British seaside feel. Not only en-US because of the rolling terrain and the en-US seaside types of grasses found throughout, en-US but also because of the sod-walled bunkers. en-US Trust me, as beautiful and unique as they en-US are, you will want to avoid them at all cost! en-US Not that its easy to avoid them, mind you. en-US The course sports over 90 bunkers in all, en-US with some waste areas taking up over a en-US half-acre. en-US Eagle Creek is one of my favorites, Garl en-US told me with a smile. It has a great variety en-US of holes. There is a touch of the British Isles, en-US a British and Scottish Links right in the en-US middle of Florida.en-US The course features five sets of tees, en-US playing as long as 7,217 yards, down to a en-US little as 5,324 yards. The variety of holes en-US includes a couple of short par-4s, a very en-US reachable par-5, as well as a monster of a en-US par-5. There are four par-3s, challenging en-US every club in your bag.en-US One of the things I like best is that the en-US design forces you to think before you step en-US onto the tee of each hole. There is a safe and en-US easy play available on each hole. However, en-US the safest shot from the tee may give you en-US the longest or most difficult approach to the en-US green. You have to pick your poison.en-US The par-5s all require you to pay en-US attention. Just because you are laying up, en-US dont think that youre being given an easy en-US shot. Pay attention to the pin position and en-US where you can give yourself the best angle en-US from which to attack it with a short iron. en-US Then, layup to that spot and give yourself a en-US shot at a birdie.en-US The seventh hole is a lot of fun. This very en-US sharp, dogleg-right, par-4 entices you to cut en-US the corner and give yourself a much shorter en-US shot into the green. Play en-US it safe off the tee and you en-US may find yourself hitting en-US three or four clubs more en-US for your approach.en-US Your front-nine ends en-US with a tempting par-5. en-US The shortest on the en-US course at 524 yards from en-US the tips, you can make en-US up ground or stretch that en-US lead with a couple of nice en-US shots.en-US Dont be fooled by the en-US beautiful landscaping en-US and waste bunkers that en-US frame the uphill par-3 en-US eleventh. At 217 yards from the back tees, it en-US is quite daunting and the longest of the en-US par-3s on the course.en-US The closing holes feature a couple of en-US par-5s that bookend a lovely par 3. The en-US 18th was originally planned as a long par-4, en-US but the owners and Garl decided that en-US making it a tempting par-5 would make for en-US an exciting end to everyones round. The en-US green sits right next to the clubhouse, en-US guarded by water, bunkers and rocks. How en-US well you hit your tee shot and where you en-US stand in your match, will likely decide how en-US much you challenge the hole.en-US Eagle Creek features the first Mini Verde en-US greens in the state. Carts come equipped en-US with state-of-the-art Parview GPS to make en-US club selection much easier. The tips provide en-US when you reach each tee are there to help en-US you to play the hole better as well. en-US After your round, the New England en-US manor-style clubhouse features a restaurant en-US as well as full locker rooms for men and en-US women. Its always a nice treat to be able to en-US take a shower and refresh yourself before en-US getting in the car to head either back home en-US or to your Orlando area destination.en-US For more information visit en-US www.eaglecen-US-en-US reekorlando.com, en-US or call (407) 273-4653.en-US James Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years. If you do en-US not update your billing information your en-US access on will be restricted and the en-US user deleted. The reason to do this en-US might include: a recent change in en-US your personal information (i.e. en-US change of address), submitting invalid en-US information during the initial sign up en-US process, an inability to accurately en-US verify your selected option of en-US payment due an internal error within en-US their processors. Please update your en-US profile in order to restore your online en-US access.en-US Then they include a link for you to en-US follow to submit the required en-US information.en-US If you ever get an email saying an account en-US you have with some institution is in danger en-US of getting cut off unless you update your en-US information online, a bell should go off in en-US your head.en-US No legitimate institution is going to en-US contact you over e-mail to update your en-US account.en-US If your account were in jeopardy, you en-US would receive a phone call or postal en-US message, not an e-mail.en-US Another thing you can do is hold your en-US mouse over the link they want you to click. en-US Dont click it or fill out any information of en-US course, but hold your mouse over the link en-US and see what the actual address is (it may en-US pop up in a little pop up or reveal itself en-US down in the Status Bar).
