3 Theres no cost to you! CALL (844) 701-9145 INDEPENDENT LIVING ASSISTED LIVING MEMORY CARErrrrf rntbr bbbrn rbrbfreerSENIOR LIVING SOLUTIONSrbbrr r r br rr rr brr brb rb review of existing space into a couple of en-USdifferent phases, he explained. The first en-US phase was to look at the court complex in en-US Downtown Fort Pierce and to understand en-US the available space that might be there and en-US trying to meet the court systems needs so en-US that were not building anything else hopeen-US -en-US fully in the next decade. And then beyond en-US that, looking at existing space in the other en-US facilities that we have. That process is en-US ongoing, and weve got a meeting with all en-US the stakeholders in the court system this en-US week.en-US St. Lucie County first began renting en-US space from Desantis Commercial, Inc. at en-US the former Orange Blossom Mall for the en-US supervisor of elections for a 10-year perien-US-en-US od beginning in January 2003. The Counen-US-en-US ty has subsequently approved four addenen-US -en-US dums to that original lease agreement, en-US extending it through May 31 of this year. en-US On May 15, the Commission approved a en-US fifth addendum extending the contract en-US through the end of next February. The en-US addendum came with the option to extend en-US the lease for five more years but required en-US notification to the landlord by Oct. 31, en-US putting the Board under the gun to make a en-US prompt decision. en-US Commissioner Townsend emphasized en-US the rent increase of $2 per square foot en-US raised a red flag for her on the latest agreeen-US -en-US ment and wanted to know exactly how en-US much space Ms. Gertrude was renting. en-US My only concern here is, as much as I en-US want the [old] mall to succeed, we all en-US know the challenges that are out there, en-US she said, referring to its location prone to en-US flooding. When I looked at this when it en-US came back up for the $12 a square foot en-US increase from $10, I dont know exactly en-US how many square feet shes actually renten-US -en-US ing. en-USMr. Johnson clarified that Ms. Walker en-US currently leases a minimum of 21,712 en-US square feet at the old shopping center but en-US that number has mushroomed currently en-US to 23,712 square feet due to her spatial en-US needs in the current election season. en-US We had to make some adjustments for en-US Ms. Walker to get through the 2018 elecen-US -en-US tion cycle, he said. So the rate did en-US increase to $12 per square foot. However, en-US in March of 2019, the rate drops back en-US down to $10 per square foot for five en-US years.en-US When Commissioner Townsend asked en-US for assurances that the original lower rate en-US would prevail over the five-year agreeen-US-en-US ment after next March, Mr. Johnson conen-US -en-US firmed that fact, as well as detailing his en-US recent efforts to find less expensive space en-US for the elections supervisor. en-US We did a lot of research with Ms. en-US Walker, he explained. We pointed out en-US four, five or six facilities, and economicalen-US -en-US ly this is the best option today. The comen-US -en-US parable was the old outlet mall, which is en-US now the [Florida] Nexus Park, and they en-US came in at a rate a little bit lower than $10 en-US a square foot; however they include comen-US -en-US mon area maintenance charges, which en-US range from $3 to $5 per square foot in en-US addition to the base rate. The Orange en-US Blossom Business Center is at a base rate en-US of $10 and the CAM is waived.en-US Even with Mr. Johnsons explanations, en-US Commissioner Townsend remained en-US astounded at the rental cost, which he en-US confirmed to be well over $200,000 annuen-US -en-US ally. According to the terms of the new en-US five-year addendum, St. Lucie county will en-US pay $217,120 the first year (approximately en-US $18,093.33 a month), which will rise to en-US $244,370.47 or $217,120 monthly for the en-US final year of the extension. en-US The only concern I have is this is hunen-US -en-US dreds of thousands of dollars a year were en-US paying for rent, Commissioner Townsend en-US exclaimed. I would just hope with the en-US study weve done, we would be able to en-US find her a space we currently have unocen-US -en-US cupied to be able to save this money.en-US Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky then en-US jumped into the fray, thanking her for en-US hitting the nail on the head of a long-en-US term problem.en-USWe have gone through this now probaen-US-en-US bly for 10 years trying to find the approen-US -en-US priate space, he said. Weve talked about en-US building a building, in which the actual en-US mortgage payments would be less than the en-US cost of leasing, but then theres the carryen-US-en-US ing cost, a maintenance cost and all those en-US things that go along with it. And we have en-US gone through this probably a dozen times en-US at least, and youve got to give credit to our en-US Facilities staff too. They have done a great en-US job looking at everything we have.en-US Commissioner Dzadovsky insisted the en-US countys space problem was exacerbated en-US by its aging infrastructure, including the en-US Commission Chambers where the group en-US currently sat.en-US This building alone is 40-some years en-US old -not that thats old for people like me en-US -but the point is, Facilities has taken a en-USlook at everything we have, and the Space en-US Needs Study was actually pushed forward en-US earlier, he added. We were challenged at en-US the court, and we were challenged at the en-US Clerk of the Court, so yeah, youre right, en-US we do have to come to some resolution.en-US For her part, Commissioner Townsend en-US said she wasnt being overly critical of the en-US Facilities Department. en-US Im not saying anything negative about en-US Facilities because they do a great job, she en-US emphasized. Im just looking at numbers en-US and the obstacles weve had to overcome, en-US and I want us to try and look at other aveen-US-en-US nues to be able to put her in something en-US that we have ownership of to try and save en-US some money.en-US Chairwoman Frannie Hutchison also en-US chimed in, emphasizing the particularly en-US complicated spatial needs of Ms. Geren-US -en-US trudes office. en-US Commissioner [Townsend] I agree en-US with you, this has been an ongoing discusen-US -en-US sion as Commissioner Dzadovsky said, en-US and my great thanks to the supervisor of en-US elections for hanging in there with us, she en-US said. Unfortunately I think that our facilien-US -en-US ties that we presently own are not worken-US-en-US able for the type of needs she has, with en-US loading ramps and storage space because en-US shes required by law to keep so many en-US records and so forth. I think thats where en-US the challenge is coming from. Im hoping en-US sooner rather than later well finally come en-US to some type of a resolution on this.en-US The Commission subsequently voted en-US unanimously to approve the new five-year en-US lease addendum along with the rest of the en-US Consent Agenda items. en-USFacilitiesen-USFrom page 1

Far too often, no one wins en-US these huge jackpots and who isn;t happy en-US when you see that a group of 20 people en-US from a business are all the lucky winners en-US and get to spread the wealth a lot farther. In Florida, we en-US not only need it to survive; for many of us, it en-US is our bread and butter. en-US If everyone just did a few things a day to en-US conserve water and take care of the world en-US around us by turning off the faucet when en-US you brush, picking up three pieces of trash en-US everytime you go to the beach and so many en-US more little things, this world would be a lot en-US cleaner and healthier.en-USFor the sake of the futureen-USIf you feel climate change is a conspiracy en-US theory; exactly what research have you done en-US to arrive at your conclusion?en-US Did you read the NASA site that states more than 97 percen t of actively publishing en-USclimate scientists agree that climate warmen-US -en-US ing trends over the past century are en-US extremely likely due to human activities?en-US Have you researched the many major en-US societies such as the American Meteorologien-US -en-US cal Society that agrees with this premise?en-US Do you know Miami Beach has impleen-US-en-US mented a major pumping system to pump en-US out encroaching water since the city floods, en-US even on sunny days?en-US No, this is not fake news and you can en-US drive down there to see it with your own en-US eyes.en-US Moral of the story, dont believe every en-US conspiracy theory you read on the internet.en-US Be an independent thinker and do en-US research to get various opinions and then en-US decide for yourself.en-US Be wary of special interest groups (such as en-US the oil and gas industry) who have a moneen-US -en-US tary stake behind denying climate change.en-US Visit NASA.gov and see what they have to en-US say. 7 had also thrown townhouses and other apart en-US-en-US ments into the mix since most participants in en-US the public forums held on the property had en-US clamored for more residential options downen-US -en-US town. Commissioner Rufus Alexander had en-US favored the first proposal known as King Staen-US -en-US tion and was so frustrated with his fellow en-US commissioners rejection of the proposals that en-US he called for a special reconsideration vote en-US during the June 18 FPRA meeting. None of en-US his fellow commissioners took the bait, and en-US four of the five public speakers that evening en-US encouraged the Board to continue with its en-US plan to reissue the bids. en-US Downtown developer and business owner en-US Hans Kraaz made the only plea for a revote en-US that night, saying the county shouldnt put a en-US decision off after having spent millions on the en-US environmental cleanup of the site. en-US We have a poverty level of 35 percent, so en-US for somebody to come in here and take a en-US chance, we should be jumping up and down en-US and doing jumping jacks, he said last June. en-US Ive watched the city do nothing but spend en-US money on that for the last few years. If we do en-US nothing now, Im sure even in the best sense en-US we wont start any kind of project for at least en-US three to five years.en-US Commissioner Reginald Sessions en-US bemoaned the fact that same evening the en-US FPRA had not been more specific in its origien-US -en-US nal bid instructions for the proposers and en-US encouraged his fellow commissioners to avoid en-US any further delays in the bidding process en-US before they voted unanimously for staff to en-US revamp the bid proposal for consideration.en-US Lets not skip a beat, and lets not deviate a en-US week, he said June 18. This would help us en-US out tremendously with trying to pump someen-US-en-US thing into the economy over there.en-US City Manager Nick Mimms attempted to en-US alleviate the fears during the latest meeting en-US previously expressed by both Mr. Kraaz and en-US Commissioner Sessions, providing a timeline en-US that would potentially allow for a final project en-US approval within the next year for the $2.8 milen-US -en-US lion property. If the commissioners agreed to en-US the draft RFQ language that evening, he said, en-US it would then initiate the process Nov. 14 en-US during which the review committee would en-US evaluate the responses and present a short list en-US to the Board in early January. The FPRA en-US would, in turn, issue a request for proposal en-US from the responders on that short list by Feben-US -en-US ruary 2019.en-US The FPRA Board would then evaluate the en-US proposals and presentations in April or May en-US of 2019, he said. You as the FPRA Board en-US would then direct staff to enter negotiations en-US with the highest ranked bidder, and that en-US would be probably in the neighborhood of en-US June or July 2019. Then roughly a year from en-US today, we would hopefully present a final conen-US -en-US tract that has been negotiated with staff with en-US FPRA Board input, and to the FPRA Board en-US for approval in October 2019.en-US Mr. Mimms emphasized that he sought en-US fresh insight from each of the FPRA Board en-US members and the public, and that the overen-US -en-US whelming majority expressed a desire for a en-US hotel on the property. en-US As we look at the top choices for the future en-US use, the number one choice was hotel, he en-US explained. The number two choice was en-US restaurants; three, retail and shops; and numen-US-en-US ber four was to have a special event venue. en-US Seventy-seven percent of the respondents en-US stated that they would like to see a hotel on en-US the King Plant site.en-US As far as having a residential component on en-US the land in question, both the FPRA and the en-US citizens responding to the latest survey were en-US divided. en-US It was split on the FPRA Board, and it was en-US pretty much split in the community, so I think en-US it could go either way, Mr. Mimms added. I en-US think whatever is done will have to be a develen-US-en-US opment that definitely augments, improves en-US and accentuates what we already have. en-US The city manager and his staff decided to en-US break away from the traditional charrettes en-US theyve hold on the issue over the last decade en-US and take the mountain to Mohammad in en-US order to get a more varied response.en-US We didnt want to do the same-old, same-en-US old traditional hum-drum thing we always do en-US where we have the same 22 people come to en-US our meeting, Mr. Mimms emphasized. We en-US did pop-ups, so we just kind of crashed over en-US peoples parties. We went to IRSC, we went to en-US the Firefighter Combat Challenge, the Lincoln en-US Park Business Expo, the Farmers Market and en-US Friday Fest. We got a lot of participation and a en-US lot of community input and we saw hundreds en-US of people give us their thoughts. We had iPads en-US on scene, and we made them take the survey en-US even if they didnt want to -I think it really en-US worked to our advantage.en-US The city manager and his staff have updaten-US -en-US ed the new RFQ/RFP language to reflect the en-US latest survey results, but Commissioner Jereen-US-en-US miah Johnson wanted further clarification to en-US avoid future proposals that dont reflect the en-US desire of the community. en-US What other improvements did we make en-US besides the solicitation language and the en-US Executive Summary? he asked. What other en-US items did you see that we learned from the last en-US time?en-US Mr. Mimms said that an updated survey en-US formed part of the new bidding process, en-US among other new information. en-USThe last time the appraisal of the property en-US was listed at $2.5 million, he said. This time en-US were at $2.8 million. We also now have a final en-US SRCO [Part of the Petroleum Restoration Proen-US -en-US cess] that has been issued from the Florida en-US Department of Environmental Protection. We en-US are closing in on the application to go after en-US our certificate as an incentive for us cleaning en-US up that site. The seawall construction along en-US Moores Creek is complete. Truthfully at this en-US time, the site is now completely ready.en-US Both Commissioner Johnson and Commisen-US-en-US sioner Thomas Perona expressed concern en-US about title complications on the land since en-US some portions belong to the City of Fort en-US Pierce and others belong to the FPRA. en-US Now the ownership of the 7.2 [acres] -is en-US that totally FPRA or does the City of Fort en-US Pierce own part of that? Commissioner Peroen-US -en-US na asked. Every time we started this process en-US in the past, we dealt with reverters, we dealt en-US with ownership, we dealt with problems, so en-US were all clean?en-US I just want to be absolutely clear when we en-US sit there and talk with the applicants that we en-US have our act together, he added. And that en-US these things are clean, ready to go, the lines en-US are all very easy to find and they can go ahead en-US and start the process. en-US Mayor Linda Hudson concurred. en-US Then it will be very, very clear for anybody en-US whos coming in here with what they have to en-US deal with, she said. What we want is everyen-US-en-US thing clear for the developer. en-US The Board subsequently voted unanimousen-US-en-US ly to restart the RFQ/RFP process. The city en-US has rejected other development offers on the en-US same property over the last decade, such as en-US the 2014 offer by St. Petersburg-based Mosaic en-US Development to build hundreds of aparten-US -en-US ments and townhouses, a hotel-conference en-US center and parking garage on the site. en-US Ten years ago, city officials rejected an Atoen-US -en-US cha Village concept on the property, which en-US would have included a 350-room hotel, conen-US -en-US ference facilities and a Bass Pro store, along en-US with gondola rides along Moores Creek as a en-US tourist attraction. en-USKingen-USFrom page 1

9 en-USThe ins and outs of downloadingen-USOen-USne of the things I often hear when I en-US ask a new user what they want to en-US learn about their computer is, "I en-US want to learn how to download."en-US en-US Of all the things people can do with their en-US machines, downloading seems to be a en-US concept that's shrouded in mystery. We en-US hear about it all the time, "just go to www.en-US whatever.com and download your copy en-US today," or "I just downloaded an update to en-US my anti-virus software; my machine should en-US be well-protected now."en-US en-US What exactly do they mean by downloaden-US -en-US ing? How come no one ever explains it? en-US Well, it's one of those concepts that, for the en-US most part, is 90 percent automatic. That's en-US why there isn't much written about it for en-US the end user.en-US en-US Let me explain. Whenever you visit a Web en-US site, any picture, sound, text, etc., displayed en-US is stored on the computer that hosts it. en-US When you access the Web site, all of that en-US stuff is transferred from their computer en-US down to yours, so it can be displayed. Since en-US this transfer is going from the Web site en-US down to your computer, the data is said to en-US be downloading.en-US en-US So basically, every time you access a Web en-US site, you are automatically downloading lots en-US of stuff.en-US en-US The direction the data flows is what makes en-US the difference between downloading and en-US uploading.en-US en-US Data that comes down from the 'net to your en-US machine is considered downloaded, while en-US data that leaves your computer and goes up en-US to the 'net is considered "uploaded."en-US en-US When you send your mail, the data goes en-US from your computer, up to the mail server; en-US it's uploaded. When you get your mail, it en-US comes down from the mail server; it's en-US downloaded.en-US en-US Now, when typical stuff is downloaded en-US from a Web site, it's usually displayed as it is en-US being downloaded (back in the days of en-US dialup, the pictures would seem to slowly en-US form before your eyes).en-US en-US The confusion about downloading comes en-US from those times when the file you are en-US trying to access is something other than a en-US file that can be displayed as it comes in. In en-US these cases, you have to save the file to disk en-US and then access the file manually.en-US en-US This isn't as complicated as it may first en-US seem. When you encounter a file like that, en-US typically a "save as" dialogue box opens and en-US the computer wants to know where on your en-US computer you want to save the file. This is en-US logical; the machine needs a place to store it en-US as it comes in. Some browsers will be set up en-US to automatically save things to your en-US Downloads folder while other browsers en-US may have to save things manually. Save it to en-US the desktop or create a folder specifically en-US for it on the hard drive but, regardless of en-US where you save it, you need to note what en-US folder it is being saved in and what the file en-US is named. That way, after the download is en-US complete, you can navigate to that folder en-US and double-click the newly downloaded en-US file.en-US en-US The next thing that tends to cause confuen-US -en-US sion is what happens when you download en-US something that your machine doesnt know en-US how to open for instance, say you just en-US downloaded a .pdf file but you have no .pdf en-US reader installed on your computer. Then, en-US when you go to open it, the computer en-US displays a message asking you what en-US program to use! This can be very intimidaten-US -en-US ing if you dont understand the message but en-US you know what? The download worked en-US fine! The file did indeed transfer from the en-US internet down to the computer, the en-US computer just doesnt know what to do with en-US it and is relying on you to tell it what en-US program to use. (Not sure what program to en-US use yourself? Heres a hint take the three en-US letter extension at the end of the file name en-US (in this example .pdf) and ask google what en-US program opens .pdf. Google will then en-US come up with a list of what programs will en-US open your file). en-US en-US Another area of confusion comes from en-US things that automatically downloaded en-US things like antivirus or Windows updates en-US are often downloaded in the background so en-US there is usually little (if anything) that you en-US have to do but, since everyone knows how en-US important updates are, people can get stuck en-US trying to figure out how to download things en-US that are already taken care of. The trick en-US there is learning how to verify that autoen-US -en-US matic downloads worked the way they are en-US supposed to have. en-US en-US Well, that's downloading in a nutshell, I en-US hope this helps!en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. 13 en-USBen-USird flu, botulism, e. Coli, salmonella, en-US food terrorists whats happening to en-US my America? en-US Are we heading for a major food en-US poisoning outbreak by eating food? Is en-US Dooms Day near? Well take a deep breath, en-US and listen very carefully to what I m about en-US to say. NO, NO, NO and NO. en-US I would like to share a trip I made en-US recently to prove my point. My wife and I en-US were on a trout fishing trip in Clarksville, en-US Ga., staying with some friends. While I was en-US there, I cooked for the family and some en-US friends one night. During the evening, one en-US of the guests came to me and asked if I en-US would consider taking a tour of his food en-US plant, which was nearby and possibly give en-US him some culinary ideas. I told him I would en-US be happy to. I later found out they had done en-US a security and background check on me en-US before I was asked to tour the plant. en-US The facility is closed to the public due to en-US strict security. My friend had set this all up en-US to surprise me beforehand, knowing I en-US would like to tour the plant. The company en-US was the Fieldale Farms Corp., the largest en-US producer of cut chicken in the world. The en-US packs of cut up chicken that you see in en-US Publix and Winn-Dixie are just a few of en-US their products. en-US The tour began with a brief introduction en-US by the CEO. I was then given a personal en-US security detail to take me through the plant. en-US We entered the clean room and given a en-US smock, rubber booties up to the knee and a en-US hospital hair covering. She used a remote en-US control device to open a door to the wash en-US room as we walked in a disinfectant form en-US sprayed across the floor. We walked en-US through this suds to the sinks, which were en-US foot activated. She watched as I washed my en-US hands for one minute with antiseptic soap en-US and then I rinsed my hands with an en-US antiseptic solution. I was given sleeve en-US covers, which went from my wrist to elbow en-US and then gloves to overlap the wrist. en-US She activated the exit door, and we en-US entered a long corridor first walking en-US through another antiseptic foam spray. en-US This process would be repeated several en-US times as we entered each department. en-US Nowhere could you smell poultry. It is the en-US cleanest facility I have ever seen. en-US They process chicken from eggs to fried en-US chicken tenders. All chicks are sprayed with en-US an antibacterial growth agent. The feeding en-US sheds are large to prevent overcrowding and en-US stress on the chickens, resulting in a bigger en-US and tender product. The Humane Society of en-US America has awarded them a Best Practice en-US Award the last three years. All employees en-US are required to go through the same en-US procedures I had followed. All poultry is en-US X-rayed and run through a metal detector en-US before packaging. en-US The cutting tool is a high speed water jet, en-US which slices like a knife and can be en-US programmed for any size or shape. Human en-US hands never touch the product and it en-US moved from one area to another by en-US pneumatic plastic tubes and conveyor belts en-US to box. At every stage the product is tested en-US for temperature and bacteria count. en-US This company is an example of what is en-US happening in Americas beef, poultry, and en-US pork companies. Across the country, food en-US manufacturers are initiating these proceen-US -en-US dures. Is our food safe?en-US For those naysayers who state food was en-US safer when I was young or back in the good en-US old days, well the good old days werent so en-US good. In the early 1900s, people lived to the en-US average ripe old age of 50. Hot dogs were en-US full of mystery meat. Today we have truth in en-US labeling and sanitation policies that are the en-US envy of the world. Is it perfect? No, but it is en-US better than in any time of our history. en-US Speaking of chicken try this recipe.en-USROASTED CHICKENen-USIngredientsen-US 8 pieces of cut chicken with bone; mix it en-US up, dark and white piecesen-US 3/4-cups melted butteren-US 1 tablespoon olive oilen-US 2 teaspoons oregano leavesen-US 2 cloves of fresh garlic, cleaned and en-US minced smallen-US 2 cups chicken stocken-US Juice from two fresh lemonsen-US 2 baking potatoes cut lengthwise, cut in en-US four pieces eachen-US 1 cup red onion sliced en-US 1 cup celery, cut in 1 inch piecesen-US 1 cup carrots, cut in 1 inch piecesen-US Directionsen-US Place celery, onion and carrot on bottom en-US of a shallow roasting pan. In a bowl, coat all en-US chicken parts and potatoes with the olive oil en-US and butter mixture, place chicken parts and en-US potatoes in shallow roasting pan with en-US vegetables. Season with lemon juice, salt en-US and pepper. Sprinkle garlic and oregano en-US over all chicken. en-US Cook at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes en-US until chicken is golden brown and potatoes en-US are soft.en-US Costa Magoulas is dean of the Mori en-US Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary en-US Management at Daytona State College. en-US Contact him at (386) 506-3578 or en-US magoulc@en-US daytonastate.edu. The course is usually in much en-US better shape, the clubhouse and locker en-US rooms are available at all times and then en-US there is the socialization that you enjoy with en-US fellow members. en-US If you are looking for a private, memen-US -en-US ber-owned golf home community, I would en-US like to suggest that you put Pipers Landing en-US Yacht & Country Club in Palm City atop en-US your list. When consider the initial en-US contribution, the refundable contribution, en-US monthly dues and fees, this club comes out en-US as one of the least expensive private clubs, en-US and best values, on the Treasure Coast.en-US No one enjoys a club where you are en-US constantly fighting for tee times, or court en-US time, or to get a table in the dining room. en-US With only 302 residences and no outside en-US memberships available, the course, tennis en-US courts, and clubhouse are never en-US over-crowded. Thats not to say that no one en-US is there, its just that there is the right en-US amount of elbow room for each member.en-US The newly renovated clubhouse isnt huge en-US and ostentatious. At 29,000-square feet en-US there is just the right amount of space for en-US the pro shops, dining room, locker rooms en-US and more. A new lifestyle center has been en-US added allowing members to enjoy exercise en-US classes, wool activities, massages and spa en-US services.en-US Just this year Pipers Landing was en-US awarded the 2018 Best Private Club in en-US Martin and Port St. Lucie by readers of the en-US Hometown Newsen-US And those are some very en-US smart readers. In 2017, Indian River en-US Magazine named the club the Best Place to en-US Play Golf.en-US The membership structure is simple. en-US Everyone is a full golf member and en-US everyone pays the same amount. This en-US creates a harmonious community and en-US financial stability for the club. The golf en-US course is the communitys greatest asset and en-US having everyone support it, makes for a en-US first-class club and community.en-US A couple weekends ago, I was invited by en-US Pegi Austin, the clubs Membership and en-US Marketing Coordinator, to come out and en-US experience Pipers Landing first-hand. I en-US brought a colleague along for the experien-US -en-US ence.en-US When you arrive at Pipers Landing, the en-US first thing you notice is how beautiful and en-US well-kept the landscaping is. Every yard is en-US pristine, the common areas are groomed to en-US perfection, the flowers are in bloom, the en-US staff is warm and friendly. You feel relaxed en-US almost immediately.en-US While everything leading up to that first en-US tee shot may relax you, the golf course itself en-US can be as challenging or relaxing as you en-US desire. The par-72 layout has six sets of tees en-US with a course rating ranging from 66.1 to en-US 74.2, and a slope rating that ranges from en-US 122 to 149.en-US Pipers Landing was designed in 1984 by en-US native Floridian, Joe Lee, and measures as en-US long as 6,922 yards from the tips. Lee has en-US designed and renovated more than 250 en-US courses in his career, including Bay Hill, en-US Dorals Blue Monster, LaCosta, and Cog en-US Hill. Lee is famous for his straightforward en-US designs. No fancy bells and whistles, or en-US gimmicks, just a course thats easy on the en-US eyes and fun for golfers of every level.en-US A redesign in 2007 by Gene Bates en-US bettered the courses drainage and irrigation en-US while maintaining the original integrity and en-US design principles.en-US The course is a wonderful blend of en-US challenge and fun, with conditions that rival en-US the best courses you will play. Playing from en-US the correct set of tees, one will find en-US themselves hitting nearly every club in the en-US bag. en-US The toughest hole on the course comes en-US up quickly. The par-5 second hole features a en-US split fairway with the preferred side being en-US narrowed by bunkers and out-of-bounds. en-US Not many reach the green in two. In fact, en-US my colleague decided to play in the sand the en-US entire way to the green.en-US The par-4 10th hole is one that may be en-US played a myriad of ways. Its not very long, en-US but there is a large oak guarding the en-US approach to the green. Hit your drive long en-US enough and its not much of a factor. Hit en-US short and you face a longer approach en-US through a narrow gap. Hit your tee ball just en-US right and you have to go over it.en-US At the par-4 14th, you are again posed a en-US challenge. There is a brook running across en-US the fairway. You can layup or drive over it. en-US The longer your drive, the easier the en-US approach will be. I want a mulligan on this en-US hole!en-US The finishing holes are wonderful, with en-US the 18th having a severe dogleg to the right en-US with plenty of bunkers guarding the turn. en-US The more daring you are, the shorter your en-US approach.en-US The best thing about finishing your en-US round at Pipers Landing, is that you can en-US now enjoy a wonderful meal. The club en-US features some of the most delicious meals. en-US After our round, while we discussed how en-US fantastic the course conditions were and en-US how much we loved the course, we enjoyed en-US a shrimp poo boy sandwich, French dip, en-US lobster bisque, and cold beverages. We en-US topped it off with some of the clubs famous en-US cookies. Ill go back just for the food! en-US If you would like to find out more about en-US Pipers Landing Yacht & Country or en-US schedule your own personal tour, please call en-US Pegi Austin at (772) 283-7000 or visit the en-US website at en-US www.piperslanding.comen-US en-USJames Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years.
