This en-US local grant award is part of more than $8.3 en-US million in grants awarded to more than en-US 1,000 schools, nonprofits, and organizations en-US across the 44 states that Dollar General en-US serves. This is the second year the IRSC proen-US-en-US gram has been recognized with a Dollar en-US General Literacy Foundation grant.en-US The IRSC Second Chance GED Project en-US provides vouchers to students with a en-US demonstrated financial hardship to cover en-US the cost of taking the GED exam. Through en-US the program, students who successfully en-US complete Adult Education requirements en-US and document a financial hardship, are elien-US -en-US gible to receive three vouchers to pay for en-US three sections of the exam.en-US We are so delighted to again receive this en-US support from the Dollar General Literacy en-US Foundation, to assist students in paying for en-US up to 75 percent of the actual cost of the en-US GED Exam, shares Donna Sizemore, Adult en-US Secondary Education Department Chair. en-US These funds have the potential to make a en-US significant impact in advancing our stuen-US-en-US dents opportunities for success with their en-US education, their personal lives, and in the en-US workplace.en-US We are honored to fund literacy and en-US education initiatives, which support our en-US mission of Serving Others, said Todd en-US Vasos, Dollar Generals CEO. The Dollar en-US General Literacy Foundation is celebrating en-US its 25th anniversary in 2018 and a legacy of en-US helping people improve their lives through en-US literacy and education. Including this grant, en-US the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has en-US provided more than $154 million in funding en-US to help more than 10 million people. en-US 4 en-USget the project approved, they wound up en-US leaving and going on. They came back, and en-US this time they were fortunate enough to find en-US a piece of property thats actually within the en-US City of Fort Pierce. We had a neighborhood en-US meeting on May 17 and had about 21 people en-US there. I think there may have been some in en-US opposition, but nobody spoke up in opposien-US -en-US tion. The majority of the people there were en-US very favorable of the project.en-US Mr. Creagan admitted he had received en-US both support and opposition to the project en-US from nearby property owners in the rapidly en-US growing Jenkins Road corridor. en-US Twenty-one letters were sent to property en-US owners within 500 feet of the subject properen-US -en-US ty, he explained. Two letters were returned en-US for approval and five letters were returned in en-US opposition to the request. The Planning en-US Department also received letters of support en-US from the Treasure Coast Research Corridor en-US Association, and Great American RV Propen-US -en-US erties LLC.en-US Commissioner Reginald Sessions asked en-US for more details about the proposed project, en-US and Mr. Curry emphasized that campers en-US sometimes planned their itineraries around en-US Camping World locations to have recreen-US -en-US ational vehicle service nearby. The company en-US has 85 locations across the United States, en-US with 16 of those already in Florida.en-US They have a fairly significant following en-US and specialize in sales and service of campen-US-en-US ers, from the small, trailerable camper all the en-US way to the big motorhomes, he said. There en-US will be no overnight stay on this property; if en-US youre getting your camper serviced, you en-US wouldnt be able to stay there. Recently they en-US were able to purchase Gander Mountain -en-US its now called Gander Outdoors -so thats en-US added a whole other service to this. Its kind en-US of like a Bass Pro Shop: Its a one-stop shop en-US for anybody whod going to be doing any en-US camping.en-US Only three members of the public spoke en-US out during the hearing, with one in favor of en-US the project and two against it. Peters Road en-US resident Richard McClure said he was also en-US speaking on behalf of another nearby resien-US -en-US dent supporting the requested zoning changen-US-en-US es and conditional use permit.en-US Im just up here to voice my support, and en-US also Mr. Bud Wynn, who owns the property en-US across from I-95 there thats adjacent, Mr. en-US McClure said. He couldnt be here tonight, en-US but he asked me to also voice his support.en-US A nearby Jenkins Road resident, Betty en-US Froebel, expressed the opposite viewpoint, en-US worrying about the strain the additional en-US traffic would put on the two-lane road.en-US Id like to address the issue of whether the en-US traffic study has been done on the corner en-US and if theres going to be a traffic light at the en-US corner of Graham and Jenkins Road, she en-US said. I am not within 500 feet and was en-US never invited to the neighborhood meeting. en-US If Id received a card, I would have said no. en-US We are going to be getting 300-plus units en-US across the street from us, so an additional en-US commercial development there I dont feel is en-US in compliance with our residential zoning.en-US Her husband, Keith Froebel, also en-US expressed concern about the future impact en-US of both Camping World and Celebration en-US Pointe, the housing project his wife menen-US -en-US tioned slated at build-out to have 318 sinen-US -en-US gle-family homes, 145 townhomes and 292 en-US villas. en-US All the traffic from these businesses and en-US Celebration Pointe are all going to exit out en-US onto Jenkins Road, he exclaimed. Right en-US now at certain times of the day, the traffic is en-US non-stop, bumper-to-bumper going up and en-US down the road. Once you get past the school, en-US there are residences all the way to Orange en-US Avenue, so building something of this magen-US -en-US nitude in that area is completely the wrong en-US location.en-US In response to Ms. Froebels concern en-US about congestion at the corner of Graham en-US and Jenkins roads, Mr. Curry emphasized en-US that the results from his traffic study would en-US be thoroughly vetted.en-US We arent proposing a signalized interen-US -en-US section at Jenkins and Graham, he said. We en-US did prepare a traffic study, it was reviewed by en-US your staff and will be reviewed through St. en-US Lucie County as part of the right-of-way and en-US driveway permits.en-US Although the Commission voted unanien-US-en-US mously to approve the project, some comen-US-en-US missioners did express concerns about seven-US -en-US eral issues, such as adequate signage and en-US drainage and requiring sidewalks as part of en-US the development. Commissioner Reginald en-US Sessions particularly worried about the en-US chronic flooding he said plagued the western en-US part of the city.en-US That area has been flooding, and thats en-US an issue that were going to have to deal en-US with, he said. Let us not -and I cry out to en-US my staff -let us not ignore that. We dont en-US want to set ourselves up to fail as the people en-US come in and want to develop that area.en-US In response to questions by Commissionen-US -en-US er Jeremiah Johnson, Marty Sanders, the en-US executive director of growth management, en-US land acquisition, inter-governmental relaen-US en-UStions, facilities & maintenance for St. Lucie en-US Schools, said the nearby Samuel Gaines en-US Academy did not have any flooding or en-US drainage issues to-date.en-US I was there after the storm last fall, and en-US there wasnt a drop of water in the parking en-US lot, unlike the stuff in the lower elevations of en-US the Five Mile Creek Basin, the latter said. en-US Most of this area I think is well outside of en-US that flood plain. It still may have some drainen-US -en-US age problems, but I dont believe it has the en-US same flood plain problems that Five Mile en-US Creek has.en-US Commissioner Thomas Perona said he en-US understood the feelings expressed by the en-US Froebels but disagreed with their utilization en-US of increased traffic congestion as a reason to en-US maintain residential zoning on the land in en-US question.en-US Youd have to think to yourself, well what en-US if we developed the 45 acres into a residenen-US -en-US tial community? he said. I can see the en-US impact even being greater than Camping en-US World or some type of automotive or conen-US -en-US struction business, so Im not so sure thats a en-US good argument. I do support the fact that we en-US should have a sidewalk along Jenkins Road en-US because the connectivity of that whole area en-US is going to be key, especially with Celebraen-US-en-US tion going in.en-US Commissioner Sessions said he would en-US also support the project if city and county en-US staff continued to monitor the flooding and en-US drainage issues in the area, highlighting the en-US fact that Mr. Curry said Camping World en-US would employ about 80 people.en-US Presently we may not be having flooding, en-US but by the same token the more hard tops en-US you have, the more water youre going to en-US have to drain, he said. Its a beautiful projen-US -en-US ect and its going to bring a lot of jobs into en-US the area, so Ill support it.en-US The City Commission will hold its second en-US and final hearing on the zoning and future en-US land-use approvals once it receives feedback en-US from the State of Floridas Department of en-US Economic Opportunity on the approved en-US changes. en-US 8 over similar issues. Mr. Gils attorney has en-USpresented a proposed settlement offer to the en-US county: a payment of $1,000 to Mr. Gil, as en-US well as a payment of $10,500 to his attoren-US -en-US neys. The offer would release the county en-US from the alleged violations and would en-US require the county to ensure that any docuen-US-en-US ments put on the website in the future en-US would be accessible to persons with a visual en-US impairment.en-US Although no other municipalities came en-US up in a reporters Google search, Ms. Young en-US said June 11 that she knows Mr. Gil and his en-US attorney have already sued Brevard, Broen-US -en-US ward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counen-US -en-US ties over similar website allegations. She en-US emphasized the countys legal team carefully en-US weighed its options before determining that en-US settlement was in the countys best financial en-US interests. en-US What we normally do is look at the best-en-US case/worst-case scenario, she explained. In en-US the worst-case scenario, if the judge awarden-US-en-US ed Mr. Gil damages in his claim against the en-US county, we would also be responsible for en-US attorney fees and costs, which are estimated en-US at this point to be around $75,000. In a best-en-US case scenario, the judgment would be en-US entered in favor of the county, and he would en-US recover nothing; however, the county would en-US also have defense costs estimated to be en-US around $60,000. We have used a special en-US counsel to review this that deals with ADA en-US issues, and it is their recommendation that en-US we accept the settlement offer. en-US In order to help prevent St. Lucie County en-US from falling victim to the same type of lawen-US -en-US suit in the future, the assistant county attoren-US -en-US ney said her office has since contracted an en-US outside firm to evaluate both the website en-US and its PDF documents to ensure compatien-US -en-US bility with screen reader software that either en-US reads the text via a speech synthesizer or en-US reproduces it in Braille. en-US Independent of the lawsuit, the countys en-US communications director has investigated en-US several firms that could assist the county en-US with review and remediation of the website, en-US Ms. Young added. As a result of that invesen-US-en-US tigation, we have entered into an agreement en-US with a company called Siteimprove to assist en-US the county in reviewing the website and en-US remediating any issues with regard to PDF en-US files or any other items on the website.en-US Before calling the vote on the matter, en-US Chairwoman Frannie Hutchinson asked her en-US whether the Florida Legislature had recently en-US debated the issue of governmental protecen-US-en-US tion against such frivolous lawsuits. en-US I had thought the state had taken up this en-US past session issues in regards to items such en-US as this, meaning suing different governen-US -en-US ments and so forth, that those firms seem to en-US just go from one county or city to the next, en-US she said. Do we know if there was any outen-US-en-US come as to what the state did?en-US Even if Florida legislators had taken such en-US action, Ms. Young didnt have a favorable en-US response for the chairwoman. en-US I am not certain that there was, but in en-US this case its a federal lawsuit, so its a slightly en-US different jurisdiction, she explained. en-US Commissioner Cathy Townsend then en-US made the motion to approve, with Commisen-US-en-US sioner Anthony Bonna offering a reluctant en-US second after a few moments of hesitation. en-US Mr. Gill, 36, and his Miami attorney Scott en-US R. Dinin have filed nearly 100 similar lawen-US -en-US suits against a variety of organizations, en-US including the Public Health Trust of Miami-en-US Dade County, the University of Miami and en-US the Ultra Music Festival. Private entities en-US feeling the brunt of his lawsuits include en-US Burger King, Wendys, Godiva, Ron Jon Surf en-US Shops and Nespresso. Federal Judge Robert en-US Scola Jr. handed the pair and the Fort Lauen-US -en-US derdale Entin Law Group their biggest vicen-US -en-US tory in July 2016, when he ruled in their en-US favor for a $105,000 settlement against the en-US Winn Dixie supermarket chain. Even the en-US judges ruling alluded to the effort Mr. Gil en-US and his legal teams are putting into the fight en-US to force ADA website compliance. en-US [Mr.] Gil has been on 500-600 other en-US websites that actually work with the screen en-US reader software, Judge Scola wrote in his en-US June 12 verdict.en-US Although Winn Dixie Stores Inc. has en-US appealed, the ruling grabbed the attention en-US of legal organizations and experts across the en-US country in a sort of wake-up call on the en-US ambiguity of such litigation and the lack of a en-US clear legal precedent. Many say governmenen-US -en-US tal intervention is overdue, with unfulfilled en-US promises on the issue in 2010 by Former en-US President Barack Obama and the failure of en-US President Donald Trump to take it off his en-US administrations non-active list. Judge Scola en-US Jr.s ruling has also led to a feeding frenzy of en-US sorts among civil law firms looking for a en-US place at the table, according to a member of en-US the New York law firm Epstein Becker & en-US Green P.C. en-US Its not just the volume, Joshua A. Stein en-US said last April. Youre seeing a huge increase en-US in the number of players in the space.en-US Mr. Gil himself, who immigrated from en-US Medellin, Colombia when he was five years en-USold, has not remained idle. He has since en-US turned his attention to high-end resorts, en-US suing the Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key en-US last August and Naples Escalante Hotel in en-US April. While the latter is still in the court en-US system, Hawks Cay Resort agreed to a confien-US -en-US dential settlement with Mr. Gil last Decemen-US -en-US ber, who said he was stymied by the weben-US -en-US sites limitations when trying to plan a en-US vacation at the exclusive resort. Mr. Dinin en-US said his client deserved a website he could en-US utilize for such purposes.en-US No price can be put on the plaintiffs en-US inability to shop for himself, he said in his en-US 32-page complaint against Hawks Cay. en-US Mr. Dinin failed to respond directly to en-US questions from the Hometown News about en-US why his client needed to access governmenen-US-en-US tal information in St. Lucie County, but en-US instead pointed to Judge Scolas favorable en-US ruling in the Winn Dixie case and compared en-US Mr. Gils struggle with that of Rosa Parks in en-US the 1950s.en-US Mr. Gil is American citizen who is puren-US -en-US suing his America dream without having to en-US explain himself to anyone nor does he need en-US too, the attorney said June 11. It has been en-US over 25 years since the Civil Rights Laws en-US pertaining to people with disabilities was en-US passed, [but] when will the bigotry against en-US these people end? In the present case, one en-US man chooses to bring access and dignity to en-US the future, and one group makes excuse and en-US settles for apathy and indifference. I am sure en-US Mr. Gil will one day to held in high esteem en-US for his advocacy.en-US Although Mr. Gil is legally blind and sufen-US -en-US fers from cerebral palsy, he has still made en-US efforts to overcome his disabilities. en-US Although confined to a wheelchair, he paren-US -en-US ticipated in the Miami Beach Rowing Clubs en-US adaptive rowing program in 2014 in hopes en-US of competing in that years Paralympics in en-US Philadelphia. en-USLawsuiten-USFrom page 1

en-US 13 en-USTen-UShe Happiest Place on Earth is en-US getting even happier. Walt Disney en-US World in Orlando is investing a ton en-US of money on new rides, new worlds and en-US even more. It is truly the best place to take a en-US family on vacation, especially if everyone in en-US the family has different interests. With en-US summer upon us, there is no better time to en-US go than the present.en-US Later this month Toy Story Land will en-US open in Hollywood Studios. Star Wars Land en-US is going up quickly, as is the new Guardians en-US of the Galaxy in EPCOT. Disney also en-US recently broke ground on a new Tron ride en-US in the Magic Kingdom. There is a lot going en-US on at the parks and even more elsewhere on en-US the property.en-US For a family, there truly may be no better en-US place to vacation. In addition to hitting the en-US theme parks, there is golf, horseback riding, en-US fishing, water parks, boat rentals, shopping en-US and world-class dining, and just relaxing en-US available at Disney World.en-US We just spent a weekend taking in the en-US renovated and expanding Disney Springs en-US downtown area. There are loads of shops, en-US restaurants, and more there. You can even en-US catch street musicians playing next to the en-US fountains. en-US Our headquarters for the weekend was en-US the Double Tree Suites right next to Disney en-US Springs. In fact, the hotel is one of seven en-US Disney hotels (en-US www.disneyspringshotels.en-US comen-US ) right in the heart of Disney World. In en-US addition to a wonderful two-room suite, en-US breakfast, refreshing pool, and other en-US amenities, guests staying at any of these en-US hotels, get early park entrance, shuttles to en-US and from the parks, and discounts on golf en-US and other things. Florida and Georgia en-US residents, as well as military, education, en-US first responders, AAA members, and en-US seniors all receive package discounts.en-US Disney Springs Hotels are currently en-US offering summer vacation packages, with en-US rooms starting at just $99 per night. If you en-US stay at the Double Tree Suites (800-222-en-US 8733), you will also get those signature en-US chocolate chip cookies at check-in and en-US what may be the friendliest staff I have ever en-US met. The hospitality here made us feel very en-US welcome and set the mood for the day and en-US evening at magical. The pool was en-US refreshing, the drinks at the bar cold, and en-US the room quite comfortable. en-US With all the tempting relaxation at the en-US hotel and the new things to see and do at en-US the parks, it was difficult to pull myself en-US away for a round of golf. Somehow, I en-US managed. en-US When most people think about golf at en-US Walt Disney World, they think of the Palm en-US and Magnolia Courses where the PGA Tour en-US once played. Some of us however, are old en-US enough to remember when the Tour also en-US played at Disneys Lake Buena Vista Course en-US (en-USwww.golfwdw.comen-US).en-US The PGA Tour last used the Lake Buena en-US Vista Course during the en-US Disney Classic in 1997. en-US The Tour may have left, en-US but for me, the Lake en-US Buena Vista Course is my en-US favorite on the property. en-US Its not long by any en-US means, but you can see en-US some of the very-back en-US tees the Tour added over en-US time to lengthen the en-US course enough to en-US challenge the top en-US professionals.en-US What Lake Buena Vista en-US lacks in length, it makes en-US up for with challenging greens, tree-lined en-US fairways, lots of bunkers and some of the en-US most beautiful trees and fauna on any of the en-US Disney tracks.en-US Designed by Joe Lee, LBV has four sets of en-US tees, playing to a par of 72 for the men and en-US 73 for the ladies. The very back tees play to en-US just a couple yards over 6,800. The forward en-US tees come in at just over 5,200 yards.en-US The course starts you off with a par-5 en-US that should allow you to get your round en-US going early. While its not a long hole, at 514 en-US yards from the back tees, it is fraught with en-US danger. en-US The front nine wanders its way through en-US pastel vacation villas and past a lighthouse. en-US The short par-3 seventh features an island en-US green.en-US Holes eight and nine are the number one en-US and five toughest holes on the course. The en-US par-5 eighth will test you on your second en-US shot as the woods encroach from both sides en-US the closer you get to the green.en-US The back nine features dense woods en-US surrounding the course. At one point you en-US will tee off over a canal as a Disney boat en-US meanders by.en-US Eighteen is a stout par four that measures en-US well over 400 yards. The hole rewards the en-US daring golfer who can play a tee shot from en-US left to right with a shorter approach. This en-US may come in handy as you must hit a en-US narrow green surrounded by bunkers and en-US trees.en-US The best thing about your entire stay is en-US that you get to enjoy your time while en-US surrounded by the magic and enchantment en-US of Disney.en-US James Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years. en-US 14 en-USHen-USere it is, my big day and guess what? en-US I am still cooking the dinner en-US whats up with that? But Im not the en-US only father cooking on Fathers Day. en-US A lot of dads like to cook on our special en-US day. Thats probably why not as many en-US families go out to eat on Fathers Day. More en-US than 80 million people dine out on Mothers en-US Day. Almost that many on Valentines Day, en-US too, which seems like a replay for the same en-US person. en-US Now dont get upset, I think thats fine. en-US But what about Dads Day? We are always en-US playing second fiddle to mom. en-US 15 en-USPen-USeople are often surprised when they en-US find out that I prefer laptops over en-US desktop (or tower) computers. For the en-US average computer user, laptops have en-US everything a person needs to get up and en-US running right out of the box. Its usually not en-US necessary to have to shop around for parts en-US the typical laptop comes equipped with all en-US the hardware needed so there are no en-US surprises. For example, you dont have to en-US worry about getting it home and finding en-US you still need to get a webcam to get online en-US and talk with Skype. Laptops, by default, en-US generally come with everything one needs en-US to do the basic computing tasks that the en-US typical user is trying to do. en-US But arent desktops more powerful than en-US laptops? people will often ask and to that I en-US reply with mostly no and I say mostly en-US because remember, we are talking about the en-US typical computer user here, not a super en-US user or gamer with needs beyond what I en-US listed earlier. Now if you were to tell me you en-US were setting up some type of file server or en-US that you were planning on editing video or en-US maybe doing computer aided design (CAD) en-US then maybe a tower or desktop model is en-US more appropriate. A tower does typically en-US have more space inside so you can add en-US multiple hard drives and the cooling on a en-US desktop or tower is often better than you en-US get with laptop simply because things arent en-US crammed together as tightly. And cooling is en-US important when pushing your machine en-US hard like you do when gaming, video en-US editing or CAD but again, these arent en-US things that the typical computer is doing. en-US No for the basic tasks, a laptop is just fine. en-US Todays laptops have power to spare for the en-US basics. en-US But Sean, I never take my computer en-US anywhere and I just hate to try to type on en-US that tiny keyboard is an objection that I en-US hear often and heres where laptops really en-US shine. Did you know that you can plug in a en-US standard keyboard, mouse and monitor en-US into a laptop and use it just like you would a en-US desktop? In fact, many people who get rid en-US of their old desktop and start using a laptop en-US are surprised to find they can plug their old en-US computers keyboard, mouse and monitor en-US into the new laptop and its indistinguishen-US -en-US able from their old desktop! Actually, there en-US is one distinction, with the old desktop they en-US only had one monitor. When they plugged en-US their old monitor into their new laptop they en-US now have two screens! The mouse zips en-US from one screen to the next and theyre en-US delighted to find they can drag icons and en-US windows from one screen to another. All en-US this right out of the box. en-US So what that means is that if youre en-US replacing an old desktop or tower and you en-US decide to get a laptop, dont throw away the en-US old machine's keyboard, mouse or monitor! en-US Find a place on your desk for the laptop and en-US you still have the benefit of a full size en-US keyboard, a regular mouse and a second en-US screen. On top of that, the laptop battery en-US makes for a fine UPS (uninterruptible en-US power supply). If you had your old machine en-US plugged into the wall and the power en-US dropped out, your old machine would en-US reboot if it wasnt plugged into a UPS. With en-US a laptop, the battery kicks in and lets you en-US continue right through the power outage en-US giving you enough time to close and save en-US whatever you were doing which, of course, en-US is much better than having the rug yanked en-US out from under you like in a power outage.en-US But what if Im not upgrading from a en-US desktop, what if Im just buying a new en-US machine or en-US replacing an en-US older laptop? en-US Shouldnt I en-US get a desktop en-US since I dont en-US have a full en-US size keyen-US-en-US board, mouse en-US and monitor? en-US Again, Im en-US not going to en-US take it en-US anywhere and en-US I do hate en-US using that en-US touch pad en-US and tiny en-US keyboard. en-US To that I answer save yourself some en-US aggravation and pick up a twelve dollar keyen-US -en-US board and a ten dollar mouse. You can also en-US find used, flat panel monitors for dirt cheap en-US at thrift stores or Goodwill if you look hard en-US enough. en-US The point is your laptop doesnt have to en-US be limiting and irritating to use. Setting one en-US up to take advantage of a full size keyboard, en-US mouse and monitor is super easy and cheap. en-US And once its all set up on your desk, youll en-US have a hard time telling the difference en-US between it and a desktop. en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers.
