Public en-US Works Director Mike Reals said the Committee en-US received more than 900 responses to a survey on en-US the topic. en-US This group has spent extensive hours researchen-US -en-US ing this topic and placed a survey on the street en-US that to-date with approximately 924 respondents en-US has been the most successful survey that the city en-US of Fort Pierce has put out, he said. en-US Committee spokesperson Joe Hayek presenting en-US the findings of the survey to the Commission, en-US explaining that 60 percent of the respondents en-US wanted dogs allowed on any city beach, 25 percent en-US wanted them on designated areas only and 15 peren-US -en-US cent didnt want dogs on any beach. en-US We promoted this survey to ensure a maxien-US -en-US mum number of citizens participated through the en-US city website and social media such as Nextdoor, en-US Facebook and the South Beach Association Newsen-US-en-US letter, he said. We analyzed and discussed the en-US results of this survey and we formulated recomen-US -en-US mendations based on this data. People on the en-US beach responded whether they had dogs or not, en-US whereas people on the mainland responded much en-US more strongly if they owned a dog. This makes en-US sense since people on the beach would be impacten-US -en-US ed whether they own a dog or not.en-US Even though most respondents backed the idea en-US of a dog beach within the city limits, Mr. Hayek -en-US who previously lived in Jupiter where all beaches en-US are dog-friendly -said the greater number of resen-US-en-US idents here living directly on the beaches made en-US such a designation complicated.en-US FORT PIERCE By any and all indicaen-US -en-US tions, the Sunrise City has a bright future, en-US as far as Fort Pierce City Manager Nick en-US Mimms is concerned.en-US Mr. Mimms said the city and its staff en-US are keeping a close eye on developments en-US literally and figuratively and whether en-US its upgrades at the citys marina or expanen-US -en-US sion of boat and yacht builders, Fort en-US Pierce is anticipating significant growth en-US in the coming years. He added that touren-US -en-US ism has increased and so has employen-US -en-US ment, and offered insight as to prospects en-US for further improvements in the citys en-US business climate.en-US I would definitely say the City of Fort en-US Pierce is going through a positive transen-US -en-US formation, and I sincerely believe that the en-US climate were seeing here is one of posien-US-en-US tive energy, optimism and a feeling of en-US pride, said Mr. Mimms who has been in en-US his position for the past three years. One en-US of the best things that our staff is doing is en-US improving our perception and that has en-US been a challenge for many years.en-US But the efforts of our staff, police en-US department, public works department, en-US city managers office, code enforcement en-US and every department of the city is about en-US lifting our internal perception and thereen-US -en-US by uplifting our external perception.en-US The citys current climate also comes as en-US a pleasant set of circumstances because en-US Mr. Mimms is a native Fort Pierce resien-US -en-US dent whose family has lived there for en-US more than 100 years. He has long hoped en-US that things would start moving in the best en-US direction and offered a variety of indicaen-US -en-US tors that show major improvements in a en-US host of areas.en-US Fort Pierce is no longer about potenen-US -en-US tial; its about implementation and realizen-US -en-US ing our vision, Mr. Mimms said. We are en-US realizing that vision because were seeing en-US the jobs coming into our community and en-US were seeing our indication system being en-USCity unlikely to get dog beachen-USParks Committee recommends en-US nixing idea after studying en-US potential sites and available en-US county resourcesen-USBy Donald Rodrigueen-USFor Hometown Newsen-USGreyhounds take on Ramsen-USMimms en-US discusses en-US Fort Pierce en-US present, en-US futureen-USBy Gaylon Parkeren-USgparker@hometownnewsol.com en-USSeeen-US en-US BEACHen-US, page 12en-US Seeen-US en-US CITYen-US page 4

Because of the dry spring en-US so far, the St. Lucie County Fire District en-US has ramped up its patrols and response en-US times in recent weeks and is tracking the en-US fire danger index to prepare for and en-US respond to needs quickly.en-US There are tips that we give homeownen-US -en-US ers, but most of the wildfire risk is mostly en-US handled by the Florida Forest Service, en-US because they are the primary agency on en-US that, said SLCFD Division Chief Jennifer en-US Chambers. Theres no immediate threats en-US right now, but our current drought index en-US is 469 in St. Lucie County, and that will en-US creep up every day until we get some sigen-US -en-US nificant rain.en-US That scale is measured up to 800, and en-US the website has an index for every county en-US and region in Florida. The county is curen-US -en-US rently in the very high category, which is en-US just below extreme on the chart. There en-US are now seven counties that have burn en-US bans in effect, although St. Lucie County en-US is now one of them.en-US When the index hits 400, the division en-US chiefs will examine environmental condien-US-en-US tions such as wind speeds and potential en-US rainfall or if there is a known prescribed en-US burn in the area, but after that the brush en-US fire is upgraded to a task force and en-US responses can be modified. With recent en-US high winds and the present debris from en-US hurricanes the last two years, there are en-US large areas of brush and downed debris, so en-US the task forces in place respond with two en-US brush trucks, an engine and a tanker and en-US Florida Forest Service is called immedien-US -en-US ately.en-US You get a much larger complement of en-US personnel, Ms. Chambers said. We dont en-US build our response, we send the whole en-US thing from the get-go and the reason we en-US do that is the drought index is high en-US along with the winds things can really en-US big, really quickly right now.en-US The SLCFD also has seen an uptick in en-US the number of brush fires, and the largest en-US one was last week that burned more than en-US 75 acres near McCarty Ranch near Range en-US Line Road, but all of the fires this far have en-US been easily contained and no structures en-US have been threatened.en-US Among the recommendations the en-US SLCFD offers for homeowners pertain to en-US defensible space. People are advised to en-US keep limbs off of roofs, and ensure that en-US gutters are cleaned. It also is recommenden-US -en-US ed that in the event of a brushfire near a en-US home that sprinkler systems are turned en-US on.en-US For more information about the St. en-US Lucie County Fire District, visit https://en-US www.slcfd.com/.en-USSt. Lucie County en-US tracking fire danger en-USBy Gaylon Parkeren-USgparker@hometownnewsol.com en-USCity of Fort Pierce en-US Redevelopment Agency is en-US seeking applications en-USThe Fort Pierce City Commission is seeking en-US individuals to serve on the Communitywide en-US Council. Also, the citys crime rate has been en-US reduced more than 30 percent percent in en-US violent crime the last two years and he attrien-US -en-US butes that to residents and many diverse citen-US-en-US izens coming together with city staff and en-US credits the citys governing leadership for en-US staying the course. en-US Were seeing gang violence be almost at a en-US nonexistent level, and so were seeing touren-US -en-US ism at an all-time high and Im extremely en-US proud to say that I am from Fort Pierce, Mr. en-US Mimms said. Its an indicator of what peren-US -en-US severance can produce, and I definitely feel en-US that were making promising strides.en-US I believe our city commission is working en-US together now in a more cohesive manner en-US than we have ever worked before. They lisen-US -en-US ten to each other and listen to their constiten-US -en-US uents.en-US St. Lucies unemployment rate is lower en-US than most surrounding counties on the en-US Treasure Coast, and Mr. Mimms said the en-US downtown area is vibrant and storefront en-US capacity is very high with retail shops and en-US restaurants. Also, the Downtown Farmers en-US Market attracts thousands of people as does en-US Friday Fest.en-US For years and years, weve been strugen-US -en-US gling to keep people in business in our en-US downtown area we are seeing a return of en-US businesses in the area and were seeing a en-US strong investment in our down town, which en-US is a compilation of efforts between the puben-USen-USlic and private sectors, Mr. Mimms said. en-US Our marina was designed for anywhere en-US from 240 to 270 slips, and our marina manen-US -en-US ager is turning people away every day and en-US we are at full capacity.en-US He added that the protection provided by en-US the barrier islands, combined with the techen-US -en-US nological advancements at the city marina, en-US resulted in no boats being lost in the last en-US two hurricanes and he also cited the recent en-US construction of a private marina with en-US another 112 slips at Causeway Cove. Those en-US circumstances result in a boost to dozens of en-US companies and improves the recirculating en-US money that stays in the city.en-US Residential construction also is resurgen-US-en-US ing, and over the next five years companies en-US and prospective developers look to add en-US more than 2,000 residential units in the city. en-US Also, the building department has seen a en-US 48-percent increase in permit applications en-US that have been completed, from commercial en-US to residential.en-US Whats exciting to me is that weve en-US changed our identity, where we used to be en-US citrus, cattle and I respect our roots and en-US what we were, Mr. Mimms said. But now, I en-US see marine-related commerce and tourism en-US and those are driving forces for Fort Pierce. en-US With manufacturing, commercial fishing en-US and with recreational activities on the water en-US along with the investment of several milen-US -en-US lion into buying the Port of Fort Pierce en-US and bringing in the mega-yacht servicing en-US industry is a dynamic change for the city.en-US Were bringing in different types of en-US skilled trades and crews of these vessels and en-US they have to sleep and eat somewhere, en-US which means were bringing in a brand-new en-US demographic of people into Fort Pierce.en-US For more information, visit en-US https://www.en-US cityoffortpierce.com/en-US.en-USCityen-USFrom page 1

This is an en-US eyesore, with its ripped apart pumps and en-US plywood enhanced windows, advertising en-US the move of the previous owners/leasers(?). en-US The overgrown grass is so very nasty. Who en-US to contact, Texaco, County, State, all of en-US these? We have a beautiful place to live here en-US in Vero Beach with the exception of said en-US Texaco dump. Anyone have any ideas? Anyen-US -en-US one?en-USIn response to the rant about en-US terrible drivingen-USI wanted to answer a rant about the terrien-US-en-US ble driving on US 1. My rant is that drivers en-US in Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counen-US -en-US ties dont know traffic law, and because they en-US dont know or dont care what the law says, en-US driving on US 1 in these three counties is a en-US nightmare!en-US Florida State Statute 316.081(3) reads:en-US On a road, street, or highway having two en-US or more lanes allowing movement in the en-US same direction, a driver may not continue to en-US operate a motor vehicle in the furthermost en-US lefthand lane if the driver knows or reaen-US -en-US sonably should know that he or she is being en-US overtaken in that lane from the rear by a en-US motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of en-US speed. This subsection does not apply to en-US drivers operating a vehicle that is overtaking en-US another vehicle proceeding in the same en-US direction, or is preparing for a left turn at an en-US intersection.en-US Because laws are written in order to comen-US-en-US pensate for numerous differences, such as en-US speedometer malfunctions, flow of traffic, en-US or other issues, drivers are expected to operen-US -en-US ate utilizing common sense. en-US Multiple lane roadways are created to en-US keep traffic flowing smoothly. Therefore, if en-US you are traveling in the left lane and theres en-US nobody in front of you, but there are 500 en-US cars stuck behind you, utilize common en-US sense get out of the left lane. Slower traffic en-US keep right!en-USTeachers and gunsen-USLong, long ago teachers were responsible en-US for teaching reading, writing and arithmeen-US-en-US tic. Over the years, many additional responen-US-en-US sibilities have been piled upon the three en-US basics. Todays teacher is expected to be so en-US much more than just being a teacher and en-US now President Trump wants some teachers en-US to be armed police officers in the school.en-US Of all the added responsibilities that have en-US been forced upon teachers over the years, en-US this responsibility is certainly the most diffien-US-en-US cult one to perform which would result in en-US death to teachers and students and someen-US -en-US times, I hope, the BAD GUY!en-US Within 24 hours of implementing such a en-US program, every student and every teacher en-US would know who the designated teachers en-US are! This would place these teachers in en-US harms way to a greater extent than other en-US teachers. The BAD GUY would certainly en-US know who the designated shooters are in the en-US school! The designated teachers, with their en-US hand gun, would be going up against the en-US bad guy with the AR 15. Who do you think en-US will win out in this SHOOT OUT???en-US President Trumps idea of arming teachers en-US to protect students and teachers will not en-US improve the safety to teachers or students. en-US This is not a problem that can be solved by en-US dumping yet another RESPONSIBILTY on en-US the teacher!!! Even Governor Scott is against en-US this idea!!!en-USThere is an answeren-USI would like to respond to the author of: Photo courtesy of MaryAnn Ketchum   en-USOn March 13th the John Carroll High School Rams Varsity en-US Baseball team took on the LPA Greyhounds on their home turf at Lawnwood Stadium in a non-conference game.   The Rams en-USdefeated the Greyhounds 16-6 and had 14 hits to the Greyhounds 5.   Here, John Carrol High Schools Andrew Bourque is up at bat. en-USBoy, would I like an answer to this in the en-US February 23rd Edition of Home Town en-US News:en-US Dear Ranter, there really IS an answer to en-US your question: Who passed the law that en-US texting and driving can be legal? The en-US answer is; laws are passed by your elected en-US Representatives in either the Florida state en-US legislature or the Congress (House and Senen-US -en-US ate) of the United States. Local statutes en-US which affect things like parking, safety en-US codes and land use regulations are passed en-US by your elected representatives on the varien-US -en-US ous local government bodies in the state of en-US Florida and around the country.en-US The bottom line is: Please communicate en-US your opinions on these laws and regulations en-US to your elected representatives and leaders. en-US Then, if you feel they are not listening or are en-US passing laws that you think are not good for en-US the community, please plan to vote in the en-US next elections and every election.en-US Ask the candidates about their policies en-US and positions on issues of importance to en-US you before you cast your ballot to make sure en-US you vote for candidates that you feel will en-US best represent your interests. By the way, I en-US agree that texting and driving is VERY danen-US -en-US gerous. I do not know WHO benefits from en-US allowing people to do it. Same thing with en-US the golf carts. en-USKids will make the differenceen-USSo, a recent headline stated: Senate en-US blocks ban on guns, set up voteen-US Do none of the people in the state house en-US watch TV or anything. The kids in the en-US schools are going to cause them more trouen-US -en-US ble then they want. They will vote to replace en-US the ones that dont do what they want. And en-US all the NRA money cant help you if you en-US dont get the votes. Yes there are lots of stuen-US -en-US dents that cant vote yet, but as soon as they en-US can watch. The students will have years to en-US make sure the representatives that ignored en-US there concerns get voted out. en-US What they are proposing is a joke. Go all en-US around the issue, do they think the students en-US are stupid, as they think the rest of us are. en-US Keep doing what people that elect you dont en-US want and you will be replaced. en-USHoping for a homer

Its the fans!en-US The part of our great game that enteren-US -en-US tains us is in danger. Im talking about en-US professional tournaments. The PGA Tour is en-US especially in serious danger. We have a new en-US breed of fan in our sport and the time has en-US come to show him or her the proper way to en-US conduct themselves or the exit door. en-US There was a time when fans shouted en-US words of encouragement to their favorite en-US players to show them their support and give en-US them a lift. There were those who hated a en-US player, but they certainly didnt go out of en-US their way to broadcast it to the world. Yes, en-US Jack Nicklaus put up with a lot of Fat Jack en-US jokes back in the day, but I dont remember en-US fans yelling for his ball to go in the water or en-US for him to chunk a chip.en-US At the Honda Classic a few weeks back, en-US tournament winner Justin Thomas had a en-US fan removed for heckling him most of the en-US day. It had to get tiresome for not only him, en-US but those following his group. Calls by this en-US fan for his ball to miss the green or go en-US into the water or a bunker, had to get to the en-US point where Thomas wondered at what en-US point this guy was going to yell during his en-US swing in a effort to get his wish.en-US These new fans have turned into idiots. en-US Its bad enough when someone at the tee of en-US a 600-yard par-5 feels the need to yell, Get en-US in the hole! after a golfer hits his tee shot. en-US Now we have to deal with these clowns en-US yelling nonsensical things like mashed en-US potato or Baba Booey.en-US We all know this is done simply to draw en-US attention to themselves. They want to go en-US home after the tournament, watch the en-US taped broadcast, and see how many times en-US they were on television. Imagine the en-US phone call to his best buddy, Did you hear en-US me yell squashed bananas when Tiger teed en-US off on 14?en-US The problem is growing and the act is en-US wearing thin with most of the pros and en-US fans. While yelling anything when the en-US player is not in his swing may not effect en-US him, the competition between these idiots en-US to be the first to yell, pushes them to shout en-US as close as possible to when the club makes en-US impact.en-US This sad behavior is reaching the tipping en-US point. My theory on why it has gotten en-US worse. Alcohol. Tournaments are sponen-US -en-US sored by and sell a lot of alcohol. The en-US Honda has huge hospitality tents or lounges en-US if you will, for Michelob Ultra, Titos Vodka, en-US Moet & Chandon Champagne, Gosling, en-US and Devonshire Wine.en-US Here patrons can relax, enjoy several en-US libations and, in some cases, lose their en-US ability to behave like a golf fan should.en-US On every hole you have one or more en-US idiots all trying to out-shout one another. I en-US guess simple en-US minds are en-US entertained by en-US simple things. en-US What is being en-US forgotten here is en-US that the golfers en-US are the entertainen-US -en-US ment. Nineen-US-en-US ty-nine percent of en-US us came here to en-US watch and enjoy en-US their play. Not en-US hear someone in en-US the gallery en-US shouting stupidien-US-en-US ties. en-US The PGA Tour en-US says that it does en-US not interfere with en-US play and therefore en-US it cannot send en-US these people packing. I disagree. It interen-US -en-US feres with the enjoyment of the tournament en-US for 99% of your customers. Ive even started en-US watching the PGA Tour with the sound en-US muted on my television.en-US The real problem is going to come when en-US these shouters begin to sell their yelling to en-US companies. Dont laugh, it will come. en-US Television commercial time is expensive. en-US For a couple thousand dollars you can pay en-US someone to shout the name of your product en-US all day long while following the top players en-US around. Exposure at the event as well as on en-US television for a mere fraction of the cost of en-US one 30-second ad.en-US The best way to put a stop to this childish en-US behavior is to toss the offenders out. If the en-US Tour doesnt want to do that, then those of en-US us who dont wish to listen to them need to en-US stop going and the players themselves need en-US to tell the Tour that they will not play if it en-US isnt stopped. How much money will an en-US event lose if Tiger, Rory, Justin, Jordan or en-US Dustin dont play? With our luck, the idiots en-US will just drink even more.en-US James Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years. en-US 12 en-USThis committee concludes that the city en-US does not have adequate space and facilities en-US to recommend having a dog-friendly en-US beach, he explained. its not like the town en-US of Jupiter where youve got the entire ocean. en-US They let dogs run free -its not a problem en-US -but with all the communities [here] on en-US the ocean, it makes it difficult. Its just kind en-US of shoe-horning it in some place.en-US Both Mr. Reals and Mr. Hayek suggested en-US instead that the city recommend residents en-US use Walton Rocks Beach, St. Lucie Countys en-US only dog-friendly waterfront park, which en-US lies about 12 miles south of Fort Pierce on en-US A1A. en-US It is self-policed, very successful and proen-US -en-US vides restrooms, showers, picnic areas, en-US parking and space for non-aggressive dogs en-US to run off-leash, the latter said. We recomen-US -en-US mend increased promotion of Walton Rocks en-US in city marketing literature, websites and en-US social media.en-US Commissioner Rufus Alexander agreed en-US on the need to publicize the countys en-US dog-friendly beach, which has only been in en-US existence for the last couple of years.en-US Everybody doesnt know about it, he en-US said. Lets try to put up signs and directions en-US so they do, you know, the people that are en-US coming to this community. We see the numen-US-en-US bers are there. People want to go out and en-US enjoy the beach, they see the TV commeren-US -en-US cials [with] the dogs running in the ocean. en-US Theyre just like their kids, some people en-US dont have children.en-US Commissioner Thomas Perona was en-US absent for the Conference Agenda but left en-US word with Mayor Linda Hudson to share his en-US hope that the county might soon permit en-US dogs at an even closer beach to the city limen-US -en-US its. He has expressed concerns about en-US increased enforcement of the citys current en-US prohibition of dogs on its public beaches. en-US If we dont have a dog-friendly beach at en-US Blue Heron, that we do make it very, very en-US clear to people who own dogs, that we do en-US some marketing and also increased enforceen-US-en-US ment, the mayor said, quoting the commisen-US -en-US sioner.en-US Mr. Reals, however, said condo owners en-US near that park have opposed such a move, en-US and the county currently lacks interest in en-US opening Blue Heron Beach up to dogs. en-US We did reach out to the county to see if en-US there was any possibility of adding another en-US beach in the future, and there is not any en-US interest in that at this time, he said. When en-US word got out that Blue Heron may be a posen-US -en-US sibility, we also received strong opposition en-US from the folks living in Ocean Village.en-US Both Mayor Hudson and Mr. Hayek en-US believe many residents and visitors are curen-US -en-US rently walking their dogs at Jetty and Causeen-US -en-US way parks because they are unaware of the en-US current prohibition of dogs on city beaches en-US and recommended additional enforcement. en-US Parks Committee member Charlene Adair en-US concurred, saying she felt the citys current en-US signage is insufficient.en-US When we are doing beach cleanup, en-US which is my role, were often asked are dogs en-US allowed or people come up to us and comen-US-en-US plain, she said. I dont feel the signage is en-US adequate in order to let people know that en-US dogs are not allowed. For instance at Jetty en-US Park, the one sign in the middle is covered en-US up if there are cars there, and there are en-US always cars parked in front of the restrooms, en-US so you cant see it, and thats the only one. en-US Theres nothing at the entrance or anyplace en-US else. I think there are a lot of people -in en-US particular our visitors -who dont know en-US and dont take the time to ask someone.en-US Mr. Reals said the city would need to hire en-US additional manpower in order to ramp up en-US enforcement, and Commissioner Reginald en-US Sessions appeared uncommitted to the idea, en-US due to his love for animals and the fact that en-US he himself raises rottweilers. en-US Even being as strong as I am about anien-US -en-US mals, I feel theres a time and a place for all en-US things, he said, referring to the allowance en-US by some restaurants for dog owners to bring en-US their pets. This is not one of those that I en-US feel that we need to be infringing upon and en-US perhaps causing problems and it could be a en-US chaotic situation. Im not interested in en-US imposing an ordinance thats going to en-US impose an inconvenience on somebody en-US when it comes to animals.en-US Although the Commission does not vote en-US during its conference agenda, the majority en-US of its members concurred with the findings en-US of the Parks Committee on its recommenen-US-en-US dation to reject the idea of considering a city en-US dog park. en-USDogen-USFrom page 1en-GB p.m., Queen's Island Preserve, 4653 N. The first round of competition en-US begins at 1 p.m. and round two will be en-US at 6 p.m., and the event offers a family en-US friendly day of fun that has drawn masen-US-en-US sive crowds in the past.en-US The Adams Ranch Rodeo is sponen-US -en-US sored by the St. Lucie County Cattlemen en-US and CattleWomen to raise funds for en-US educational and scholarship programs. en-US The event features working cattle operaen-US -en-US tions who compete in events such as en-US bronco ridin, wild cow decoratin, cow en-US gatherin, trailer loadin, and ranch soren-US -en-US tin, according to the press release.en-US Its been going really good and weve en-US been able to raise money for scholaren-US -en-US ships for youths involved in agriculture en-US around the county and thats what the en-US proceeds mainly go to, said Adams en-US Ranch co-owner Billy Adams. We have a little youth sorting en-US after the rodeo for the kids it gives en-US kids and families something to do and en-US there is always really good food and en-US excellent barbecue with beef and pork en-US and its just a wholesome, cheap, enteren-US -en-US taining day.en-US The ranch also has developed a solid en-US reputation for the quality of the rodeo, en-US and it gets more popular each year. The en-US event is truly authentic, and people get en-US to watch what real ranch hands do en-US every day in one of the nations 11th en-US largest industry and is a great opportuen-US -en-US nity for the public to see first-hand the en-US skills and the hard work necessary to en-US manage cattle operations, the press en-US release continued.en-US Tickets for the event are $10 per peren-US -en-US son, and children 12 and under get in en-US free with a paid adult. With everything else that en-US happens on a typical computer its easy to en-US get distracted by all the other stuff thats en-US going around the pointer and you end up en-US missing clues that your mouse is trying to en-US tell you. en-US A lot of people dont realize just how en-US precise and instrument the mouse really is. en-US The very tip of the pointer, when pointed at en-US objects just so, will often reveal clues that en-US can be used to help you do whatever it is en-US that you are trying to do. The secret is to en-US pause at an object and see if something en-US happens. en-US Many times objects on computer screens, en-US like buttons icons and such, will respond en-US not just when clicked, but often when the en-US mouse just passes over. These mouse-en-US overs can be the source of many a hint to en-US help you on your way. en-US You may have noticed en-US while browsing the en-US Internet that some things en-US on websites change as en-US you move your mouse en-US around. Sometimes a en-US button will change color en-US or a picture's title will en-US appear if the mouse is en-US held over it for long en-US enough. If your mouse en-US passes over a link, the en-US pointer may change from an arrow to a en-US pointing finger. In Windows programs, en-US buttons, menus and controls often brighten en-US as your mouse passes over them to give you en-US a visual clue you are now pointing at a en-US clickable control. There, again, the secret is en-US to pass your mouse slowly over an object en-US and pay attention in order to see anything. en-US The reason I keep harping on that is en-US sometimes I work with someone who just en-US cant resist the urge to wiggle that mouse. en-US Every time somethings loading or were en-US trying to work out how to do something, en-US hes moving the mouse all over the screen. en-US Many times well be trying to work out a en-US procedure but with that mouse flying all en-US over, we cant get any thinking done! But, as en-US soon as the mouse stops, and we start en-US pointing at things and pausing and start en-US paying attention to our mouse, we start to en-US make progress. en-US So, what are some of the clues to watch en-US for when your pointer passes over someen-US -en-US thing? Well, one of the things that youll en-US likely see is your pointer will turn into a en-US double-sided arrow. If you will notice, en-US when the very tip of your pointer moves en-US over the very edge of certain objects (like en-US the edge of a window), the pointer will en-US sometimes turn into a double sided arrow. en-US This is your computers way of telling you en-US that you can stretch whatever it is that you en-US are currently pointing at. All you have to do en-US is click and hold while its a double arrow en-US and you should be able to change the size en-US that object just by dragging the mouse. en-US In many Microsoft en-US programs like en-US Internet Explorer, XL en-US and Word, holding en-US your mouse over en-US buttons and controls en-US will often yield a en-US small pop-up window en-US with a short, two or en-US three-word descripen-US-en-US tion of the control. en-US The thing is, many en-US times this little en-US pop-up doesnt appear for a second or so, so en-US if youre all over the place with the mouse, en-US you just may miss it. en-US In things like word processors or email en-US programs, you may notice the mouse turns en-US into this oversized capital I. This pointer en-US is called the I Beam, and its shape is en-US specifically designed to get right between en-US the letters. When your pointer turns into an en-US I Beam, thats your clue that the part of the en-US screen youre pointing at is for typing. en-US Yeah, there is a lot on a computer that en-US can serve to distract you. One of the best en-US ways to stay on track is to pay attention to en-US what your mouse is pointing at, take it easy en-US and follow your mouse. Many times the en-US answers that you are looking for are right en-US under your pointer.en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. For many, it en-US is an amazing hobby. en-US One of the most interesting and chalen-US -en-US lenging birds to attract is the hummingbird. en-US They are called hummers for short. These en-US delicate creatures are hard to attract at first en-US but once you get a few to find your feeder, en-US your in for a treat. The Hummingbird is en-US often seen in our area in the month of en-US March during their yearly migration.en-US Hummers are very interesting creatures en-US as their wings flap at an amazing 55 times en-US per second and they can fly at 25 MPH. en-US Hummingbirds have a lifespan of about en-US four years on the average but have been en-US known to live as long as 12 years. Hummers en-US are very territorial and if you attract several en-US to your feeder at the same time, they will en-US fight for their space. en-US There are several ways to attract en-US hummers to your garden and the first step en-US is to purchase a hummingbird feeder. These en-US feeders are available at almost all garden en-US outlets and are available in many styles en-US from a simple plastic model to more en-US elaborate glass feeders. Once you choose en-US and take home your feeder, find an area en-US that is around trees or shrubbery to hang en-US your feeder. en-US Taking care of a hummingbird feeder en-US requires dedication and some work. en-US Keeping the feeder clean and changing the en-US nectar is vital. You can either purchase en-US hummingbird nectar mix or you can your en-US own. Simply use one part white cane sugar en-US to four parts ordinary tap water. You can en-US store unused nectar in the refrigerator for en-US about two weeks. During hot weather, you en-US should change the mixture in the feeder en-US about every two days. You should clean en-US your feeder thoroughly at least once a en-US month. en-US Another way to attract hummers to your en-US yard is by planting hummingbird friendly en-US plants. Many of our common flowers are en-US good for attracting hummers. One such en-US plant is the bottlebrush tree. I have three en-US huge bottlebrush trees in my yard and we en-US have seen hummingbird activity around en-US them on several occasions. Some other en-US plants that attract these delicate creatures en-US are azalea, lantana, canna lily, new guinea en-US impatiens and petunia. These plants in en-US conjunction with a feeder are a good start en-US to a great hobby. Oh, did I mention they en-US also eat insects? That can be an added en-US bonus to attracting them to your garden.en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape. en-US 19 en-USBrew pubs are coming to Floridaen-USBen-USrew pubs are finally coming to en-US Florida. If you think they are already en-US here, you havent seen anything yet. en-US What is a brew pub and what is craft en-US beer? Lets start at the beginning. Four en-US thousand years ago in Egypt, the harvest of en-US wheat was primarily used to brew beer. en-US Evidence unearthed from that time also en-US shows brewed beer was used as currency to en-US pay workers. en-US The art of brewing beer was common in en-US many countries throughout the centuries. en-US In the early history of America, immigrants en-US moving to this great country wanted to en-US enjoy the beer from their native homelands. en-US This gave birth to home-brewing roots that en-US lead to the craft brewing industry. People en-US from different countries wanted to make en-US the beer they were accustomed to drinking.en-US Development of Cascade hops began in en-US Corvallis, Ore., in 1956. This hop was en-US released in 1972 to American small-batch en-US brewers. Hilton Harvest House in Boulder, en-US Colo., hosted a modest 20 breweries, en-US serving only 35 beers, for the first Great en-US American Beer Festival. Today, the annual en-US event features more than 3,800beers. en-US By 1984, craft brewers were allowed to en-US not only sell the beer they brewed, but also en-US offer food starting the brew pub movement. en-US This movement started out west and en-US steadily headed eastward. One destination en-US was Asheville, N.C.. This city now has over en-US 28 breweries with more than 60 in the en-US surrounding areas.en-US Yes, breweries are coming to Florida. en-US Daytona State College saw the trend en-US coming three years ago and starting en-US working on a college credit curriculum to en-US help teach the science to potential workers. en-US A $1.2 million teaching lab was built to en-US teach the science of hospitality beverages. en-US Part of that program will include training en-US on a commercial brewing system with the en-US capacity to produce 250 gallons of beer. It en-US will be the first program of its kind in the en-US state college system. en-US Florida now has 300 breweries with 37 en-US more expected in 2018. A microbrewery or en-US craft brewery is one that is independently en-US owned and produces small amounts of en-US beer; much smaller than large-scale en-US corporate breweries. A brew pub is a pub en-US that brews its own beer for sale on the en-US premises. en-US What is a tap room in a pub? It is a room en-US in which alcoholic drinks, especially beer, en-US are available on tap, like a bar in a pub or en-US hotel. Hope that clear things up a bit. en-US Beer now outsells wine in the United en-US States. People are looking at pairing foods en-US with beer, not wine. Here are a few pairings en-US to try; Indian Pale Ale with cheese, en-US Japanese Kirin Ichiban with sushi. Chicken, en-US seafood and pasta pair nicely with a light en-US beer like Belgian Blonde Ale, German Hefeen-US -en-US weizen, American Hefeweizen or wheat en-US beer (US), Blue Moon, or try Stella Artois en-US with French fries. The same recommendaen-US -en-US tion goes for most fried, salty dishes. The en-US chocolate notes in stouts always pair well en-US with brownies or any rich dessert. en-US Now how about a beer food recipe?en-USCHEDDAR CHEESE BEER SOUP en-USIngredientsen-US 1-1/2 cups diced carrots en-US 1-1/2 cups diced onion en-US 1-1/2 cups diced celery en-US 2 cloves garlic, minced en-US 1/2-teaspoon salt en-US 1/4-teaspoon black pepper en-US 3 cups chicken broth en-US 2 cups beer en-US 1/3-cup butter en-US 1/3-cup flour en-US 4 cups milk or half and half en-US 6 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese en-US 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard en-US Directionsen-US In a large saucepan over medium heat, en-US stir together carrots, onion, celery, garlic. en-US salt, and pepper. Pour in chicken broth and en-US beer; simmer until vegetables are tender, en-US about 12 minutes. Remove from heat.en-US Meanwhile, heat butter in a large soup en-US pot over medium-high heat. Stir in flour en-US with a wire whisk; cook, stirring until the en-US flour is light brown, about 3 or 4 minutes. en-US Gradually stir in milk, whisking to prevent en-US scorching, until thickened. Remove from en-US heat, and gradually stir in cheese. Keep en-US warm.en-US Stir beer mixture into cheese mixture. en-US Stir in Dijon mustard and bring to a en-US simmer over low heat.
