ST LUCIE COUNTY One of the biggest county fairs en-USon the Treasure Coast will be in town as the St. Lucie en-US County Fair opens Feb. 23. The event runs through en-US March 4 and has a range of activities that offer fun for all en-US ages and interests.en-US We did a lot of infrastructure upgrades here, with the en-US small-animal building opening two years ago and this en-US year we did some upgrades in draining and electrical en-US areas, said Jeanne Keaton, St. Lucie County Fair general en-US manager. That might be kind of hidden from the public, en-US but its necessary.en-US Among the host of entertainment options for the fair en-US are the PRCA Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23 and en-US 24, which is free with gate admission, and the demolition en-US derby on Saturday, March 3 at 6 p.m. The Budweiser en-US Clydesdales will be on hand during the fair and there is a en-US Show Me Safari and petting zoo for children.en-US There is a nearly full-sized train in one building, en-US which is called the Ag Train, and children can pretend en-US theyre the engineer or in the caboose, which is a great en-US photo op for families. Just in the last few months, since en-US we installed it, the kids are having a blast on it, Ms. Keaen-US-en-US ton added.en-US Among the acts that will appear throughout the fair en-US will be daily shows from Lady Houdini, the Cactus en-US Moon Line Dancers, Kickin It Country and Reggies en-US Girls, while hypnotist Chris Mabrey will offer fun shows en-US and bands such as The Dweebs, guitarist Lloyd Mabrey en-US and Judge Talford will hit the stage as special musical en-US guests. Daily showtimes for all these events can be found en-US at the main website.en-US The Dweebs sing songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s and en-US 2000s and theyre extremely interactive with the crowd, en-US so were going to hear some fun songs from those eras en-USCounty Fair starting Feb. 23en-USBy Gaylon that we can sing and dance along to, Ms. en-USKeaton said. They have really cool cosen-US -en-US tumes, and its really an eye-catcher and an en-US ear-catcher.en-US Judge Talford is a bluegrass that comen-US -en-US bined 70s and 80s rock, its very unique to en-US hear Journey and Bon Jovi and these bands en-US played with fiddles, banjos and different en-US musical instruments. They harmonize like en-US theres no tomorrow.en-US The Pork Chop Downs pig races will en-US again make their appearance and Nicks en-US Kids Show will delight youth audiences for en-US its second-consecutive year. ShenaniGuns en-US family entertainment will feature a wild-en-US west show and nine-foot-tall Rocket the en-US Robot will be patrolling the fair throughout.en-US We have a variety of entertainment, and en-US its something we take pride in here, Ms. en-US Keaton said. All our entertainment is free en-US with gate admission, whether its the PRCA en-US Rodeo or the demolition derby, so when en-US youre here youve got fun.en-US Those attending can save money on en-US advance tickets, with an adult gate/armband en-US combo going for $17 and a child gate/armen-US -en-US band combo for $12. For other armband en-US and admission deals, visit the fairs website.en-US Parking is free, and the fair is located at en-US the intersection of Midway Road and en-US Okeechobee Road.en-US For more information about the fair, en-US please visit https://www.stluciecountyfair.en-US org/ or call the main office at 772-464-2910.en-USSt. Lucie County opts to work en-US with state to ensure water en-US quality protections in place en-US for composting project at en-US Sunbreak Farmsen-USFORT PIERCE -St. Lucie County will now en-US work with the Florida Department of Environen-US -en-US mental Protection and the South Florida Water en-US Management District to oversee modifications en-US to the environment resource permit for the Sunen-US -en-US break Farms Type I Biosolids Management en-US Facility instead of openly opposing the project en-US in court. en-US The County Commission voted unanimously en-US Feb. 6 to drop its challenge to the FDEP issuance en-US of the permit, which currently enables the 6,000-en-US acre project straddling the border between St. en-US Lucie and Indian River counties to begin mixing en-US treated human waste with yard and agricultural en-US waste to create compost for its corn crops. en-US During that meeting, the countys outside legal en-US counsel, Tallahassee-based environmental law en-US attorney David Dee, told commissioners he en-US believed the judge overseeing the formal evidenen-US -en-US tiary hearing scheduled for April might not en-US favor the county after further researching the en-US matter. en-US To prepare for that trial, the CDM staff and I en-US and the county staff would need to spend a suben-US -en-US stantial amount of time between now and then en-US preparing for trial, he said. At the end of the en-US day, its my estimation, based on prior experien-US -en-US ence with similar cases, we could easily spend en-US $100,000 or more on that effort. In light of the en-US information we obtained over the last six or en-US seven months I came away with the concluen-US -en-US sion that the county is not likely to win that en-US case.en-US Mr. Dee believes the county should focus en-US instead on Sunbreaks need to modify its existing en-US environment resource permit, which is designed en-US to evaluate surface water impacts of activities en-US proposed on a particular parcel of land.en-US Given the fact the Water Management Disen-US -en-US trict is going to be looking at water quality issues en-US -and that is the primary concern of the Comen-US-en-US mission and the staff -the options that became en-US apparent to us are you could move forward with en-US the litigation or address our concerns with the en-US District and make sure they appropriately reguen-US -en-US lated Sunbreak Farms and established monitoren-US -en-US ing requirements, he explained. We could at en-US least ensure that Sunbreaks proposed plan of en-US operation would indeed comply with the applien-US -en-US cable state and local standards. Proper footwear and water are en-USmoney to proceed with the DEP permitting en-US process. I believe it would be more cost en-US effective and more fruitful to work with the en-US Water Management District on the front en-US end to address the countys concerns about en-US water quality.en-US CDM Smith engineering consultant Jill en-US Grimaldi, who along with Mr. Dee helped en-US the county craft and pass its Commercial en-US Composting Ordinance last summer, conen-US-en-US curred with that assessment. en-US I think the best approach would be to en-US refocus our efforts on water quality through en-US the ERP program, and those concerns stem en-US from the fact that this project sits within a en-US protected watershed, she said. The existen-US -en-US ing ERP that dates back to the Minute Maid/en-US Coca Cola Grove days has the potential to en-US discharge about 190,000 gallons a minute en-US from that site into the C-25 Canal, which is en-US an impaired water body for nutrients. So we en-US really want to make sure that theyre not en-US compounding the problem by adding nutrien-US-en-US ents to that impaired water body, and the en-US ERP program is the appropriate place to do en-US that.en-US PGA Village Board of Directors represenen-US -en-US tative Carol Anderson was the only member en-US of the public to speak on the matter, a stark en-US comparison to other meetings in recent en-US years when dozens of PGA and St. Lucie en-US West residents packed the chambers to proen-US-en-US test CompostUSAs desire to build a comen-US -en-US posting facility in the county. The Commisen-US-en-US sion ultimately passed its Commercial en-US Composting Ordinance a year or so after en-US the company withdrew its application, and en-US during the time discovered Sunbreak Farms en-US request to be exempt from the ordinance en-US under Floridas Protect the Farms Act. Ms. en-US Anderson said she and the residents stand en-US behind the countys decision to work with en-US the state rather than take the farm to court. en-US We realize we need to balance agriculen-US -en-US tural business needs with residential health en-US and safety needs, she said. After careful en-US consideration, we want to make sure that en-US you know we support your proposal tonight en-US to withdraw the petition and shift the focus en-US of the modification you need to make to the en-US South Florida Water Management District. en-US Were not going to stand in your way at all: I en-US think youre making the right decision.en-US Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky said he en-US understands the concerns of so many resien-US -en-US dents because drain-off into the C-25 Canal en-US feeds directly into the Indian River Lagoon.en-US The citizens have been very clear to say en-US they want to take action upstream to avoid en-US the cost of taking it out downstream, he en-US said. en-US Commissioner Cathy Townsend en-US expressed her personal thanks to Ms. en-US Anderson and the PGA residents that proen-US -en-US vided their input during the process. en-US I know the residents out there have been en-US vocal, she said. Its because of people like en-US you that care about the community it en-US helps us educate the community in letting en-US them know that its more than just sitting up en-US here and making a vote. Theres a lot of due en-US diligence that goes into the process. I know en-US that you at the PGA have rallied and held us en-US accountable in the transparency and in en-US making an informed decision in doing en-US whats best for everybody. en-USProjecten-USFrom page 1 en-USLip Reading 101 class offered en-USWant to learn to read lips? Years ago if en-US you traveled 50 mph on US 1 you flowed en-US with the traffic. Now you are run off the en-US road. I know the traffic has increased but en-US that's not the reason. Drivers cut in front en-US and force in front of you and many go over en-US 55 mph. Why? Because they get away with en-US it. And why? Because there is no road patrol en-US by the police or sheriff. It is almost non exisen-US -en-US tent and about the only time you see patrol en-US cars is when they are traveling back and en-US forth to headquarters. Call the chief and en-US sheriff and tell them about this. They could en-US pay for the patrols with the fines.en-US Someone should be held responsible for en-US the deaths of Santia and Britney on Feb. 6th. en-US Would the doctors have approved of a en-US 1,000+ mile trip to Florida in the tourist en-US season? Was the RV inspected? Does the en-US 98-year-old driver have close relatives who en-US should have taken his keys away from him en-US years ago? Don't say he needed to get en-US around. There are lots of cabs, buses, and en-US private individuals who would drive him for en-US gas money, etc. Money saved on insurance en-US and gas would cover lots of shopping trips. en-US Driving an RV at his age a catastrophe en-US waiting to happen, and it did!en-USCheck writingen-USReferring to the rant 'mentally challenged en-US or inconsiderate check writers'. Amazing in en-US our society that someone can get so annoyed en-US at an individual inconvenience as to label en-US that person as possibly mentally challenged. en-US What a superiority complex. At least (in en-US public forum) the thoughtmaster has updaten-US-en-US ed his terminology from the old "what a en-US r*tard!" Real nice.en-USTraffic control really?en-USIn recent months PSL West installed a en-US new traffic control system along SLW Blvd. en-US The intent was to afford the public a better en-US traffic flow on this overcrowded artery. en-US I have no idea how much the city spent en-US for this new system. The results to the averen-US -en-US age driver have been suspect. I do believe en-US that there has been changes in the way that en-US the traffic is being controlled. Personally I en-US have not experienced enough positive en-US results to say that this investment was en-US worthwhile. Having a thoroughfare that is en-US handling multiple times the amount of trafen-US -en-US fic which it can handle efficiently is more en-US than new timing of traffic lights can resolve. en-US There are simply too many cars and what is en-US needed to truly improve the flow simply en-US cannot be done either financially or otheren-US -en-US wise. If the cameras at the various cross-en-US street intersections are still playing a role in en-US the timing of the lights then I stand to be en-US convinced. I have seen far too many situaen-US -en-US tions where the left turn leads allow 4 or 5 en-US cars to go through leaving an additional 10 en-US or more to wait in line. I have also seen situen-US -en-US ations where there were no cars on either en-US side of the cross street and the light turned en-US green for this street and went through a very en-US long cycle with still no cars Drivers are en-US accustomed to having the left turn leads en-US come on immediately after the cross traffic en-US has stopped. The new system apparently has en-US been developed to alter that procure from en-US one light cycle to another. Im sure the engien-US -en-US neers can explain how this is a much better en-US system but the results have not met the en-US claims. One factor is potentially dangerous en-US since the drivers awaiting the left turn lead en-US to come on will sometimes anticipate that it en-US will do so as it always has done and start en-US their turn prior to the lead actually activaten-US-en-US ing. This I, of course, wrong, but I have seen en-USSevin Bullwinkle/staff photographeren-USBonefish Macs Sports Grill in Port St. Lucie held a fundraiser on en-US Feb. 7 to benefit Sergeant Bryan Parrett, a veteran with the Martin en-US County Sheriffs Office. Sergeant Parrett was diagnosed with Stage en-US IV colon cancer earlier last year. Family and friends are organizing en-US fundraisers to help the family cover the rising medical costs. The en-US next fundraiserwill be held at The Twisted Tuna, 4290 SE Salerno en-US Road in Port Salerno on Saturday, March 3, from noon-5 p.m. For en-US more information, please visit en-US bryan-parrett-cancer-funden-US. The four wheeler will be raffled off at the next fundraiser to be en-US held at Twisted Tuna in Port Salerno on March 3. en-USthis happen several times. I dont know if en-US this is a case of the road to hell but the en-US expected results are simply not there. en-US At this time of year when the kids are in en-US school and the snow birds are with us the en-US amount of traffic on SLW Blvd can be terrien-US -en-US ble, in particular during the two rush hours en-US and around lunch time. The city can do little en-US to alleviate this situation, although I am in en-US the hopes the Crosstown Parkway extenen-US-en-US sion, when completed, will help. en-US I would question the due diligence given en-US to purchasing the new control system. Was en-US this a realistic attempt to actually help the en-US situation or a normal procedure where en-US our decision-makers were simply placating en-US to the masses? It is easy for me to make en-US comments based on hindsight but I would en-US have thought the city engineers could have en-US provided a realistic projection of how much en-US assistance this new control system would en-US actually be able to provide. Adding another en-US traffic lane to the eastbound and westbound en-US lanes would be the best resolution but I en-US dont see that happening for a lot of reasons.en-USPulling Together for Parrett

His first goal was to en-US recapture membership lost over the last few en-US years and the second was to provide a welen-US -en-US coming environment for golfers of all ages en-US and ability levels. In order to do so, he en-US revamped the membership rates in order to en-US encourage golfing all year rather than focusen-US -en-US ing on seasonal residents during the high seaen-US -en-US son.en-US We instituted a membership in October en-US that was $40 for a City of Fort Pierce resident, en-US $60 for a Florida resident and $75 for a Florien-US -en-US da resident, he said. Its totally different than en-US what we had in the past. The old membership en-US went anywhere between $100 to $300 and was en-US really geared around the winter months; once en-US we were past April, there really was no posien-US -en-US tive cash flow. Last year we sold 97 of those in en-US total, but this year with the new membership en-US categories, we have sold 385 of those, so its a en-US drastic change in recapturing our guests and en-US our members.en-US The new golf fees represent a 20 percent en-US reduction in the rack rate when golfers play en-US through the course of the day, so he said they en-US havent created a significant revenue base but en-US have helped created a huge round-of-golf en-US base.en-US So through yesterday, he added, were up en-US 4,400 rounds over last year [during] the same en-US period. Last year we were just over 13,000 en-US rounds from the first of January, and this year en-US its 17,400 over that stretch.en-US Rounds of golf are not the only thing up en-US since Mr. Visconti took over the reins at Indien-US -en-US an Hills. Other revenue sectors have also en-US shown improvement.en-US I did a little recap of the last quarter of en-US 2017, he added. Rounds were up 3,186 over en-US last year for October through December; en-US merchandise sales in the pro shop were up en-US $4,200; food, snacks and alcohol were up en-US $6,870; and our total revenue was up approxien-US -en-US mately $25,000 over our first fiscal quarter.en-US Mr. Viscontis report helped fulfill a request en-US by Commissioner Reginald Sessions who en-US interrupted the report to have the director en-US introduce himself to anyone in the chambers en-US who might not know hed come onboard late en-US last year.en-US Give us hope, Commissioner Sessions en-US said. Keep hope alive.en-US The commissioner referred to the disilluen-US-en-US sionment expressed by many city residents en-US and some of his fellow commissioners over en-US the last few years at the failure of the course to en-US become financially viable. Last August, the en-US Commission unanimously approved a new en-US $567,476.00 maintenance contract for the en-US 2017-18 fiscal year they hoped would streamen-US -en-US line operations and get the municipal course en-US off life support. During the course of that en-US meeting, Mayor Linda Hudson expressed en-US frustration that the course purchased for en-US $200,000 in 2002 has continued to cost the en-US taxpayers so much money. Indian Hills has en-US lost $2.5 million over the last 10 years, with en-US the city having to shore up its budget with en-US nearly $3.2 million out of the general fund. en-US Public support for the facility has held steady, en-US however, with nearly 50 residents attending a en-US March hearing on the future of the course en-US asking the city to continue its sponsorship.en-US As of August last year, the city had shelled en-US out nearly $230,000 to help keep the course en-US afloat. Right after Mr. Viscontis presentation en-US Feb. 5, the Commission approved a $358,000 en-US transfer from the General Fund to Indian en-US Hills to alleviate a current funding shortage, en-US but not before Commissioner Sessions asked en-US the city clerk to pull it from the consent agenen-US -en-US da for discussion.en-US Were talking over a quarter of a million en-US dollars on something that has not been proen-US -en-US ductive for us in the past in terms of generaten-US -en-US ing revenue, and I just wanted to go on record en-US to say that were going to have to make a 360 en-US in terms of a difference, at least from my peren-US -en-US spective anyway with this golf course, he en-US said. Its kind of hard to swallow this pill en-US when you look at the predicament of the en-US infrastructure here in the City of Fort Pierce en-US and the roads and the conditions of the en-US roads.en-US Commissioner Sessions did reaffirm his en-US backing for Mr. Viscontis efforts on improven-US -en-US ing the facility but insisted it needed to en-US become more self sufficient after the manner en-US of the Sunrise Theatre.en-US Ive heard nothing but positive things en-US about you and your operations, he said en-US directly to Mr. Visconti. But, from a realistic en-US standpoint, you know how this has impacted en-US us financially. This has got to be something en-US from my perspective thats going to generate en-US some revenue and make us some money en-US around here.en-US For his part, Commissioner Jeremiah Johnen-US en-USson asked Mr. Visconti to list both a positive en-US and negative thing related to the current state en-US of Indian Hills. The former golf pro said cusen-US-en-US tomers were noticing all the improvements of en-US new equipment and landscaping -the posien-US -en-US tive -but the negative would obviously en-US require an infusion of capital to be transen-US -en-US formed into a positive.en-US I would say the negative would be the lack en-US of a clubhouse, he explained. You know usuen-US -en-US ally when you come off the golf course and en-US youre out there for four hours, youd like to en-US have a nice sandwich and some kind of a cold en-US beverage, so I think thats probably the numen-US -en-US ber one thing. And even outside of golf, I en-US think it handcuffs us a little bit. We could en-US have functions, breakfast meetings, even outen-US -en-US ings. Wed be able to really capture quite a few en-US outings in the area, but its a little prohibitive en-US when its a 100 degrees out and youre sitting en-US on a screened-in porch in the back.en-US Commissioner Rufus Alexander wanted to en-US ensure the golf course manager was reaching en-US out to area schools and other organizations to en-US groom a new generation of golfers, so Mr. en-US Visconti detailed those efforts as well.en-US With the junior golf programs through en-US the Police Athletic League, the Boys and Girls en-US Clubs and the Pace Center for Girls, we averen-US -en-US age somewhere between 400 and 500 attenden-US -en-US ees through the course of the year, he said. en-US There are approximately 90 classes with six en-US to eight children in each class. For the City en-US Championship, we reached out to Fort Pierce en-US Central to provide for a no-charge exemption en-US for those kids at the Fort Pierce Central Golf en-US Team.en-US Commissioner Thomas Perona asked Mr. en-US Visconti to provide another update after three en-US months have passed.en-US Since this is in progression, Id like to en-US invite you back maybe in 90 days and kind of en-US give us another update, he said. We need to en-US feel good about where were going and know en-US the direction that weve been.en-USGolf manager says Indian Hills on upswingen-USBy Donald Rodrigueen-USFor Hometown News en-USfirst trip to the Lewis Library for this popular en-US workshop. Color is one of the main en-US elements that make your yard stand out. en-US One of the most practical ways is through en-US the use of roses. Roses are beautiful flowers en-US that symbolize love and friendship. Imagine en-US yourself entertaining your friends in a en-US lovely alcove surrounded by colorful en-US flowers. Roses are relatively easy to grow en-US and are a great choice because they will en-US often grow where other flowers wont en-US because of Floridas intense summer sun.en-US Roses can be successfully planted in en-US either containers or in the ground. In either en-US case, the plants should be in well-drained en-US soil in a sunny location. If you plant your en-US treasures in the ground, be sure the soil en-US drains well. Dig a hole about 15 18 inches en-US wide and eighteen inches deep. Put a layer en-US of gravel on the bottom of the hole. This is en-US to allow drainage so water drains away from en-US the root system. The same would apply if en-US you plant your roses in a container. The en-US next step is to prepare the soil you are going en-US to use to plant your roses. You should use a en-US mix of a good quality potting soil with en-US around half the mixture composed of en-US organic matter such as mulch or peat. You en-US can also use some bone meal with your soil en-US mixture. Now, its finally time to plant your en-US prize. Carefully remove the plant from its en-US original container. Place the plant in your en-US prepared hole so the top of soil layer on the en-US plant is the same level as the surrounding en-US soil. Fill the gap underneath the plant with en-US your prepared soil mixture. Now, fill the en-US gaps around the remaining parts of the en-US plant and pack down lightly. You are now en-US ready to water in your newly planted rose. en-US OK, you finally have your roses planted en-US and they are bursting with color, now you en-US need to do some periodic maintenance to en-US maintain that beauty. Since we live in such a en-US humid climate, certain diseases such as en-US black powdery mildew and black spot can en-US both be a common problem. Both diseases en-US are much easier to control if you prevent en-US them happening in the first place. Once en-US established, both are very difficult to get rid en-US of. Although there are many products on en-US the market that are used for disease control en-US on roses, Orthenex reigns as the king. The en-US product controls not only diseases but also en-US controls insect infestation as well. If you are en-US interested in an all-natural cure for fungus, en-US how about baking soda. Thats right, baking en-US soda. Plain ordinary baking soda added at en-US the rate of 3 teaspoons per gallon of water. en-US You then can add a small amount of mild en-US dish detergent to the mix to act as a en-US spreader sticker. This will work as a en-US preventive measure but will not work well if en-US an infection is present. Be sure not to make en-US your mix too strong as damage to your en-US roses could result. en-US With all the remedies that we have at our en-US disposal for controlling rose problems, en-US probably the best way is prevention. One en-US way is to avoid watering late in the day so en-US the leaves of the plant do not stay wet all en-US night. Also it is important to have good soil en-US drainage. en-US Roses are heavy feeders and like a good en-US supply of food. Roses should be fed at least en-US once a month. You can use a good quality en-US commercial food or you can use your own en-US mix, which should consist of 1 cup of bone en-US meal, 1-cup cottonseed meal, one-half cup en-US blood meal, one-half cup fishmeal and en-US one-half cup Epsom salts. You can spread en-US this mix around each plant and then water en-US in. With a little care and cooperating en-US weather conditions, you can have a Spring en-US garden that is the envy of the neighboren-US -en-US hood. So wait no more, the cold weather is en-US gone and the Florida Spring is here so get en-US gardening!en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape. en-US Send e-mails to hometowngarden@gmail.en-US com or visit his Web site www.hometownen-US -en-US is in the air! Did you know the en-US president pays for his own groceries aside en-US from the state functions? The dinners en-US served at the White House are not a en-US reflection of what the presidents like to eat, en-US it is the foods served for formal dinners en-US directed by protocol and visiting dignitaren-US -en-US ies. en-US The presidents personal meals, like en-US breakfast, lunch, and dinner eaten in en-US private, are a collection of foods that en-US represents the times, heritage, background en-US and personal tastes of his family. Most were en-US common down-to-earth cooking, except for en-US Thomas Jefferson. He was not only the en-US author of the Declaration of Independence, en-US but an avid food gourmet, introducing en-US many new foods to America.en-US George Washington, often associated en-US with the cherry tree, really did like cherries en-US and other fruits, nuts and seafood. Many en-US presidents had lavish dinner parties, but the en-US most elaborate occurred during Honest en-US Abes administration. Historical records en-US show President Lincoln was a hearty eater, en-US but indifferent to food. Raised on a farm, he en-US would eat whatever was put in front of him, en-US never complaining. Obviously, Ms. Lincoln, en-US coming from a wealthy family, influenced en-US the state meals and opulent banquets. en-US Ulysses S. Grant was a man of simple en-US tastes, so he brought with him a quarter en-US master corps cook to the White House. This en-US didnt last long because, being an army en-US cook, the quarter master would prepare en-US meals like those for an army barracks. A en-US chef from one of the major hotels was hired en-US to replace him and a period of gourmet en-US meals returned to the White House.en-US Teddy Roosevelt had definite opinions on en-US food. The food must be simple and healthy. en-US He was very fond of chicken, eating a whole en-US chicken with four glasses of milk. He also en-US had a sweet tooth and stirred seven lumps en-US of sugar into a cup of coffee.en-US The foods Franklin Delano Roosevelt en-US liked were a little harder to find, because en-US Eleanor Roosevelt would decide the foods en-US to be eaten. They would be simple and en-US unpredictable at times, even serving the en-US English royal family hot dogs!en-US Dwight D. Eisenhower was an accomen-US -en-US plished cook and he would often cook for en-US the family. Soups were one of his favorite en-US dishes. He wrote two cookbooks and kept a en-US hot plate in his office to cook when he felt en-US like it. en-US John F. Kennedys White House returned en-US to the times of Jefferson with all French en-US cuisine, because of Ms. Kennedy. en-US There are so many stories to share, but en-US here are a few facts I found interesting: en-US Richard Nixon loved meatloaf, en-US Lyndon B. Johnson brought Texas en-US style BBQ to the White House, en-US Ronald Reagan loved jelly beans, en-US George W. Bush is a pretzel lover, en-US Bill Clintons favorite was chicken en-US enchiladas, Barack Obama liked en-US salted almonds and President en-US Trump eats Lays potato chips. en-US I love food history and the en-US story of what presidents liked to en-US eat can be fascinating. I suggest en-US reading the following book if you en-US want to learn more, The en-US Presidents Kitchen Cabinet by en-US Adrian Miller. Now its time for a en-US presidential recipe from The National en-US Archives. President John F. Kennedys en-US recipe for New England Fish Chowder. Now en-US you can make it and eat like a president!en-USFISH CHOWDERen-USIngredientsen-US 2 pounds haddocken-US 2 ounces salt pork, diceden-US 2 onions, sliceden-US 4 large potatoes, diceden-US 1 cup celery, choppeden-US 1 bay leaf, crumbleden-US 1 teaspoon salten-US Freshly ground black pepperen-US 1 quart milken-US 2 tablespoons butteren-US Directionsen-US Put the haddock in a soup pot with 2 en-US cups water and simmer for 15 minutes. en-US Drain, reserving the broth. Saute the onions in the en-US pork fat until golden brown. Add the fish, en-US potatoes, celery, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to en-US taste.en-US Pour in the reserved fish broth plus en-US enough boiling water to make 3 cups liquid. en-US Simmer for 30 minutes. Add the milk and en-US butter and simmer for 5 minutes.
