Wayne Gent en-US said the Florida Department of Education data en-US revealed positive graduation rate gains in the Disen-US -en-US trict for three years in a row. en-US This is a historic and unprecedented measure of en-US success for the School District and for the commuen-US -en-US nity, said. This surge represents a hike from 45th en-US to fifth in the state as well as another 3.3 percent en-US gain from the previous year, surpassing state averen-US -en-US ages.en-US Gov. While the program is in its en-US infancy, it is forecasting to provide en-US expanded opportunities and helped the en-US county to re-think ways to get people en-US around, and the rates are lower than taxi-en-US cab companies.en-US Lyft service creates a flexible, cost en-US effective solution for the people that need en-US transportation assistance the most, said en-US David Engel, transportation planner for St. en-US Lucie County. The Lyft St. Lucie Counen-US -en-US ty partnership reflects a true commitment en-US to empower seniors, people with disabilien-US -en-US ties and financially distressed families to en-US improve their quality of life through en-US improved mobility.en-US The demand for the Direct Connect en-US Program is high in St. Lucie, and it is en-US expanding as new qualified clients from en-US students to seniors enter the program each en-US week. The program helps students who en-US have to take evening classes at area colen-US -en-US leges and universities also can benefit from en-US the DCP, and people who work late-night en-US shifts will be able to get to their jobs easier. en-US Also, seniors throughout the community en-USare using the service to meet their mobility en-US needs when regular transit service is en-US unavailable.en-US We are excited to partner with St. Lucie en-US County to help provide critical Jobs Access en-US and Community Mobility programs, and en-US work towards our mission of improving en-US peoples lives with the worlds best transen-US-en-US portation, said Debs Schrimmer, Lyfts en-US transportation policy manager. Together, en-US our goal is to reduce transportation barrien-US-en-US ers by providing convenient alternative en-US transportation options that decouple en-US mobility from car-ownership.en-US The program also has ancillary benefits, en-US Ms. Dekle said.en-US Sometimes, people have non-emergenen-US-en-US cy medical appointments like dialysis en-US patients and those chair times are so en-US hard to come by, she said. So, we are in a en-US situation where we have these elderly or en-US disabled folks who quality for our door-to-en-US door public transportation, and we can get en-US them to dialysis but cant give them a ride en-US back is their chair-time exceeds the hours en-US of operation.en-US That was the goal of the program, and en-US its exceeded our expectations, and were en-US going to see where it can go.en-US For more information, visit www.SLCen-US -en-US or call 772-462-2095.en-USLyften-USFrom page 1 en-USSeeen-US en-US CALENDARen-US, page 7

en-US 3 en-USST. LUCIE COUNTY Customers can en-US walk up and down the aisles of just about any en-US store and note the high cost of makeup. With en-US that comes the daily, time-consuming proen-US-en-US cess of application and its easy to see that en-US there might be a Perfect solution to elimien-US -en-US nate these issues.en-US With that in mind, Linda Lady Fish en-US Frank who has been in business for more en-US than 40 years as one of the first female tattoo en-US artists on the Treasure Coast offers a peren-US -en-US manent way of addressing the tedium of en-US makeup by tattooing clients with their comen-US-en-US mon makeup techniques at Always Perfect en-US Permanent Makeup. Not only that, but her en-US methods work to defy the aging process and en-US help clients look years younger when her arten-US -en-US istry is complete.en-US Always Perfect Permanent Makeup steps en-US in and can eliminate the need to ever enter a en-US store after Linda Lady Fishs work. Origien-US-en-US nally, she got into oil and acrylic painting and en-US painted motorcycles before transitioning to en-US tattooing in 1978, and is a pioneer for women en-US in the industry.en-US Theres nothing more rewarding than to en-US help somebody with their body and their life, en-US and with the permanent makeup they can en-US walk past a mirror and they dont see the en-US aging process because they wake up with en-US their makeup, Linda Lady Fish said. Even en-US when they dont feel good, they still have en-US their makeup on, so I counteract the aging en-US process. I remember people asking me, en-US What are you going to do when youre old, en-US and I keep counteracting the aging process en-US and when people keep falling down I keep en-US lifting everything up and my ladies keep en-US coming back over the years.en-US Linda Lady Fish also has worked to help en-US women who have had breast removals, due en-US to cancer, by basically redrawing parts of the en-US body and helping women feel whole again. en-US This part of her work has helped hundreds of en-US clients in their psychological recovery, after en-US what can be traumatizing in the aftermath of en-US surgery.en-US Where the doctors or plastic surgeons are en-US like sculptors, I create and fix things with en-US color, Linda Lady Fish said. What they en-US cant do, Im like the icing on the cake. I even en-US have an NPI (National Provider Identifier) en-US number for cancer patients to file with their en-US insurance companies.en-US Women say, that with everything theyve en-US gone through with surgeries, they can come en-US to a female and finish off where the doctors en-US left off and they feel like a woman again.en-US In fact, her whole life has been devoted to en-US helping customers stay beautiful, and she en-US said they are endlessly grateful for her work. en-US She has hundreds of regular customers and en-US she helps maintain their looks well into their en-US senior years. en-US Because Im a female, and back then taten-US-en-US tooing was a mans world, it was very limited en-US to how many artists were out there, Linda en-US Lady Fish said. Ive been able to watch the en-US changes in the industry of tattooing and seen en-US where women once werent tattooed, and I en-US was. But I slowly watched women get into en-US tattoos in the 90s and I got into the medien-US -en-US cal field because I saw people who were sufen-US -en-US fering from Parkinsons and had shaky hands en-US and vision problems so I started applying en-US their eyebrows and eyeliner.en-US Since 1979, Linda Lady Fish has been en-US restoring the confidence and happiness of en-US customers of all types with services that en-US include applications for eyebrows, eyeliner, en-US full lips, eye shadow, hair simulation, areola en-US reconstruction, scar camouflage, medical taten-US-en-US tooing and now, microblading without a en-US blade. She is a member of the Society of Peren-US -en-US manent Cosmetic Professionals and is certien-US -en-US fied for medical tattooing.en-US Linda Lady Fish also is world-renowned en-US in the medical tattooing industry and her en-US work on 3-D areola tattooing for post-op en-US breast cancer patients is well-known. When en-US doctors would recreate a womans breast en-US because they had a mastectomy, a lot of times en-US they couldnt put the nipple and areola back en-US on, so I would tattoo it on, she said, adding en-US that she has helped people who have gone en-US through the windows of cars and been bitten en-US by dogs to camouflage those injuries.en-US At Always Perfect Permanent Makeup, she en-US goes out of our way to serve those battling or en-US recovering from illness. This means helping en-US you hide scars, restore pigment or reconen-US -en-US struct features using the power of experien-US -en-US enced tattooing. She works with people sufen-US-en-US fering from alopecia and Parkinsons, as well en-US as post-op cancer survivors. And she considen-US -en-US ers it an honor to help these individuals en-US reclaim their confidence. en-USHer website also offers examples and en-US explanation of the processes, which allow en-US people to swim, work, exercise and play en-US without the worry of the makeup ever wearen-US -en-US ing off, and that makes people confident and en-US removes the worry of re-application after any en-US activity.en-US My oldest client is 95 years old, and Ive en-US lost count of how many women in their 90s en-US who come to me from nursing and assisteden-US or independent-living homes and I keep en-US applying their makeup, Linda Lady Fish en-US said. I keep records of everybody, and peoen-US -en-US ple who started with me when they were 60 en-US and are now in their 80s still look wonderful en-US and its so rewarding to me because they have en-US a different quality of life because they like en-US who they are, and people look at them differen-US -en-US ently.en-US I have the best job, and people keep comen-US -en-US ing back to me from all over the world to en-US Fort Pierce. Im blessed, and then I can bless en-US other people and thats the way I look at it. en-US And all I can say is Im just a portrait artist en-US helping people.en-US For more information, visit en-US http://alwayen-US-en-US or call 772-466-2769. Mr. Gent emphasized en-US that two schools not in that list, Fort Pierce en-US Westwood High School and Port St. Lucie en-US High School, both exceeded the state averen-US -en-US age and improved their graduation rates by en-US 6.7 and 8.4 percent respectively. en-US It is important to ensure that all of our en-US students are making gains, and it is gratifyen-US -en-US ing to see all demographic groups making en-US positive growth and opening doors for colen-US -en-US lege or career opportunities, he added.en-US The Indian River County School District en-US managed to retain its 87 percent graduaen-US -en-US tion rate and only dropped one-tenth of a en-US percentage point in spite of the fact that en-US two of the Districts high schools saw their en-US graduation rates fall. While Indian River en-US Charter High Schools rate dropped from en-US 94.9 to 91.6 percent and Sebastian River en-US High School saw its rate fall from 85.3 to en-US 83.7 percent, an increase at Vero Beach en-US High School from 89.4 to 91 percent en-US helped even out the average.en-US Indian River County School Superintenen-US -en-US dent Dr. Mark Rendell believes maintainen-US -en-US ing the previous years graduation rate was en-US quite a feat due to recent changes at the en-US state level that preclude districts from en-US counting students who leave traditional en-US high schools for alternative education but en-US still go on to graduate. Those students are en-US now classified as dropouts even though en-US they receive a diploma. en-US It is important to note that even with en-US changes to the formula, we were able to en-US maintain a graduation rate of 87 percent, en-US he said. That is still the highest rate our en-US district has achieved with the fouryear en-US cohort model and is a credit to all segments en-US of our school system.en-US Indian River County School Board en-US Chairman Shawn Frost concurred, saying en-US the FDOE data clearly demonstrate that en-US initiatives by Dr. Rendell and high school en-US faculty are producing results. en-US Under the previous calculation, we en-US would have achieved a 91 percent graduaen-US-en-US tion rate, but even with the new formula, en-US our district held even and beat the state en-US average by 5 percent, he said. This is valien-US-en-US dation that Board supported initiatives, en-US such as graduation coaches and a culture of en-US positive expectation, are producing results en-US and have us headed in the right direction en-US for our students.en-US The Martin County School District, en-US however, saw its graduation rate drop from en-US 88.7 to 83.9 percent, almost a 5 percent en-US decline but still higher than the state averen-US -en-US age. Out of the Districts four high schools, en-US only the Clark Advanced Learning Center en-US saw an increase in its graduation rate from en-US 97.6 to 100 percent. Jensen Beach High en-US School saw its graduation rate drop from en-US 91.8 to 88.4 percent; Martin County High en-US Schools rate fell from 88.9 to 85.3 percent; en-US and South Fork High Schools graduation en-US rate dropped from 89.1 to 85.5 percent. en-US Martin County School Superintendent en-US Laurie J. The corporate tax en-US rate dropped from 39% to 21%. The Euroen-US-en-US pean average is 24%. What does this mean? en-US I means that large companies can hold on to en-US their profits instead of giving them to the en-US government, and invest these profits in the en-US company. Licensed since 1982 FORT PIERCE The family that fights en-UScrime together, stays together or someen-US -en-US thing like that.en-US After nearly 50 combined years, two Fort en-US Pierce Police officers decided to retire, but en-US that wasnt before their contributions led to en-US a history of exceptional service with the en-US department. Rodney Nieves who earned en-US the rank of master sergeant while with the en-US FPPD and Master Lieutenant Katherine en-US England-Nieves are now basking in their en-US retirement years, but by no means have left en-US the field of law enforcement behind.en-US Mrs. England-Nieves was with the force en-US for more than 26 years and Mr. Nieves en-US served for 23, and during their time they en-US rarely got to see each other. The rule that en-US was in place required that they couldnt en-US work the same shifts which both said en-US made things a little more difficult but now en-US that they are working as private investigaen-US -en-US tors they can work, travel and enjoy their en-US pets together.en-US We did meet on the job, and we were en-US able to get permission to marry, Mrs. en-US England-Nieves said. Because of our rank en-US and with the probability of us having to en-US work close together, I couldnt ever be his en-US boss and that was a struggle for years en-US because we passed like ships in the night en-US and had to take days off to spend time en-US together and were on opposite shifts.en-US Mrs. England-Nieves was a pioneer for en-US females in law enforcement on the Treasure en-US Coast, having been the first female SWAT en-US (Special Weapons and Tactics) officer with en-US the FPPD and also was the first female snipen-US -en-US er and was only the second woman to attain en-US the rank of lieutenant. But her preferred line en-US of work as detective was what she found en-US most rewarding.en-US I specialized in child sex crimes, and I en-US was able to get a lot of disclosure from the en-US children because I was able to build a rapen-US -en-US port with them, Mrs. England-Nieves said. en-US When I became a supervisor, I think that en-US my favorite part was the mentoring, guiding en-US and teaching the younger officers.en-US Meanwhile, Mr. Nieves worked in a varien-US -en-US ety of capacities during his service. He was en-US assigned to the motorcycle unit and worked en-US there for six years that he genuinely enjoyed. en-US He also moved on into teaching new officers en-US that line of work and helped guide them en-US once they became part of the unit.en-US Were probably old enough to be a lot of en-US those young men and womens parents, Mr. en-US Nieves said. With that being said, they en-US might have been our subordinates but they en-US were like our children and not in a en-US demeaning way but we always wanted to en-US see them prosper and flourish and make a en-US career out of it like we did.en-US The husband-and-wife team are very en-US grateful for being able to work with the en-US FPPD for so long, and are enthusiastic about en-US law enforcement. Mrs. England-Nieves is a en-US third-generation police officer, having folen-US -en-US lowed her grandfather, Sherwood Nelson, en-US and father, George England, Sr. to the en-US department.en-US Were both very passionate about it, and en-US we were very sad to leave, Mrs. England-en-US Nieves said. en-US Were very en-US excited about en-US the retirement en-US future but sad to en-US leave the people en-US that worked for en-US us and with us en-US on our shifts, we en-US called them our en-US kids. Were sad en-US about that, but en-US also that we cant en-US give back to the en-US community anyen-US-en-US more by mentoen-US-en-US ring the kids and en-US doing good law en-US enforcement en-US work.en-US Like many en-US couples who en-US retire, they have en-US taken advantage en-US of the ability to en-US travel, and enjoy en-US their newfound en-US freedom. But they en-US also maintain a series of goals where they en-US can set their training and educations into en-US motion and keep working.en-US We travel often, and we work as private en-US investigators now, Mr. Nieves said. We en-US have stayed in contact with the members of en-US the department and remain dedicated to en-US them who we worked with and we try to en-US help them with their career goals and to en-US mentor them.en-US I have several college degrees that I en-US should probably put to good use, and I was en-US an adjunct instructor at IRSC, Mrs. en-US England-Nieves said. But I really enjoyed en-US the teaching aspect of it, so I may try to get en-US back into teaching in a different venue. I en-US really dont know. Were enjoying our work en-US and the downtime with the family and anien-US -en-US mals, and we are getting ready to breed our en-US dogs so we will have lots of puppies running en-US around; were just enjoying the fruits of life.en-USHusband, wife retire from police force togetheren-USBy Gaylon Photo courtesy of the City of Fort Pierce Facebook Page en-USMaster Lieutenant Katherine England-Nieves and en-US Master Sergeant Rodney Nieves, recently retired from en-US the Fort Pierce Police Department.

I en-US will be marching up and down aisles upon en-US aisles of golf equipment, accessories, balls, en-US apparel and so much more. My quest will en-US involve hitting and testing all kinds of clubs en-US and balls, and trying teaching aides in a en-US tireless effort to find the best of these items en-US and then report my findings to you, my en-US adoring fans.en-US Held in the Orange County Convention en-US Center each January, the Merchandise Show en-US takes up pretty near every square inch of en-US the Centers one-million square-feet of floor en-US space. More than 10 miles of carpet are laid en-US out to form the aisles between exhibitors. en-US My feet will tell you that I travel pretty en-US much every foot of them at least once.en-US In addition to finding the inside scoop en-US on the latest in golf technology, I also use en-US my time at the show to line up exciting and en-US interesting guests for my Life weekly radio en-US show that runs every Wednesday from en-US 6:05-7:00 pm on WSTU Radio (en-US www.en-US wstu1450.comen-US) out of Stuart.en-US Over the past few years, the news coming en-US out of the show has gotten considerably en-US better. Larger manufacturers and smaller en-US companies have returned to the show after en-US being away for several years during the en-US recession. With the economy in a surge, en-US there appears to be a lot of newcomers en-US exhibiting and the number of buys is up en-US again this year.en-US Last year, after too many years of sad en-US faces and projections of woe, the feel of en-US optimism was the air. Thankfully, it has en-US continued into 2018.en-US Many manufacturers come into town en-US several days early, not just to set up their en-US booth at the convention center, but to host en-US events for their best customers and select en-US media.en-US These events usually kick off the show, en-US filling our entire week with something to en-US do. My week at the show starts on Monday en-US morning at the Tour Edge Multi-Manufacen-US -en-US turers Media Golf Outing.en-US My friends at Tour Edge know just how en-US to tee our week off on the right foot. We en-US spend a day trying out the companys new en-US clubs, eating, playing golf, hearing about en-US other new products, testing some new en-US products, eating some more and having a en-US few cocktails and maybe a cigar to finish en-US the day and start the week.en-US In addition, it has become a fantastic way en-US to see old friends en-US and catch up with en-US colleagues that I en-US havent seen for a en-US year or more. At the en-US end of the day, I en-US head to my condo en-US feeling happy and en-US excited for the week en-US to come.en-US Over the years, I en-US have learned the en-US best way to do the en-US show is to have a en-US proper place to stay. en-US That means a en-US spacious condo en-US with a whirlpool en-US tub to soak my tired en-US body in after a busy en-US day, a full kitchen, en-US and ample space to en-US stretch out and recharge.en-US In the coming weeks youll hear about en-US everything that I found of interest at the en-US show. Ill fill you in on the new equipment, en-US new grips, new swing aids, and even energy en-US drinks. So, fill up your coffee cup and get en-US ready. en-US Please, hold the applause. There is no en-US need to thank me. I do all of this because of en-US the deep love in my heart for our game. en-US Sometimes one must make sacrifices for the en-US good of the sport and the needs of his fans.en-US Over the years, the goodies I come home en-US with to pass around have become fewer and en-US fewer. Stay tuned though. I will find en-US something to give away to my loyal fans en-US upon my return. Last year I gave away hats, en-US balls, umbrellas, some gadgets to help your en-US swing and even a laser range finder via en-US raffles to my readers.en-US Now if youll excuse me, I really must to en-US get back to planning my week. en-US 15 en-USI en-USlove cooking with stock.en-US For those of you who dont cook, like en-US my wife, stock is the richly flavored en-US liquid left after simmering chopped carrots, en-US onions, celery with beef bones, or chicken en-US parts, or fish bones, or just vegetables.en-US Add a few peppercorns, a bay leaf and a en-US tablespoon of thyme or parsley. Simmer for en-US several hours and strain, leaving a pure-flaen-US -en-US vored elixir that raises food to a higher level en-US of taste. Im sure you have been to the en-US grocery store and wondered why they cut en-US up fresh beef bones and package them for en-US sale. It is for those few purist out there like en-US me that love good tasting food. en-US Your grandmothers remember that was en-US the best way to make soup. Yes, I know en-US Campbells has been around since 1869, en-US making soup, but this is not about soup as it en-US is about cooking with flavor and reducing en-US oil for cooking. en-US OK, lets start by saying I know you wont en-US make fresh stock. You will probably buy en-US those boxes with liquid in them. Please read en-US the label closely. Some have high fructose en-US syrup, many have large amounts of salt not en-US gluten free and some have monosodium en-US glutamate, MSG, which can cause severe en-US allergic reactions This product is not en-US allowed in public school lunches. Try to en-US find a product as natural as possible. en-US There is soup base in powder form and en-US some like a paste. You can mix these en-US products with water and make your own en-US stock solution, but again check the ingredien-US -en-US ents carefully. en-US Broth is technically any liquid with meat en-US cooked in it. Stock involves bones simen-US -en-US mered a long time to extract their gelatin en-US and flavor. This will create a thick liquid. It en-US is only possible when bones are present. en-US Roasting the bones makes for a richer, more en-US deeply colored stock.en-US When stock is prepared, it is not en-US seasoned. It is added as an ingredient en-US during the cooking process. Broth is en-US seasoned and can be used as a drink or en-US soup. The grocery stores carry broth, stock, en-US paste and cubes, which by the way is en-US dehydrated broth and lots of other stuff. All en-US of these products are seasoned, so choose en-US wisely. en-US When I make spaghetti sauce, taco meat, en-US meat loaf, most sauces, any vegetables, I use en-US stock to cook my ingredients, not oil. A en-US tablespoon of oil is 120 calories and 13 en-US grams of fat. No one uses a tablespoon, it is en-US usually 2-3 tbsp. Instead use stock. One cup en-US is 15 calories and .05 grams fat. I tried this en-US at home for our family of four, we collecen-US -en-US tively lost 25 pounds in one month.en-US Roast items in the oven if you want to en-US brown them. The proof is in the taste. Try a en-US spoon of oil and then a spoon of stock. That en-US is what you add to food when you cook. en-US You decide, very simple.en-USOVEN-ROASTED ROOT en-US VEGETABLES ANTIPASTOen-USServes: 6 to 8en-US Ingredients en-US 1 large yellow squashen-US 1 large zucchinien-US 1 medium red onionen-US 2 medium tomatoesen-US 1 bunch asparagus (stemmed)en-US 1 red bell pepperen-US 1 medium eggplant (leave skin on)en-US 2 large parsnips (about 8 ounces), peeleden-US 8 garlic cloves peeled, whole (bottled en-US garlic) en-US 1 cup chicken stock en-US 3 tablespoon balsamic vinegar en-US 4 ounces feta cheese crumbleden-US 8 kalamata olives seeded, sliceden-US 1 tablespoon chopped oreganoen-US 1-1/2 teaspoons kosher salt en-US Freshly ground black pepper en-US en-US Directions en-US Preheat oven to 350F degrees. en-US Cut all the vegetables into 1-1/2 inch en-US pieces.
