LUCIE WEST Quality jewelry is not en-US difficult to find on the Treasure Coast. But en-US for quality jewelry with style, customers en-US should head to LSO Jewelers and Repair in en-US St. Lucie West at Cashmere Corners Shopen-US -en-US ping Plaza.en-US The business has been around for more en-US than five years, having been originally en-US opened by Stanley Oprysk. Upon his passen-US-en-US ing, his daughter Larissa Oprysk deciden-US-en-US ed to take over and run the business. She has en-US an artistic nature and was determined to use en-US that artistry to make custom-designed jewen-US -en-US elry that includes her own flair or complies en-US with the wishes of her clients.en-US I grew up in the business and we are en-US going to continue with it; we went from two en-US showcases to now the larger store, Ms. en-US Oprysk said. I fell in love with it when I en-US came to the custom-design atmosphere and en-US went to school to learn the trade. Things en-US really took off when it came to the custom en-US designing because that was something he en-US wanted to expand on and its the heartbeat en-US of the jewelry industry today.en-US Ms. Oprysk said one of her passions is to en-US create something that nobody else is wearen-US -en-US ing and offer a one-of-a-kind piece they can en-US be proud of by bringing it to life.en-US We provide a service where the customer en-US actually gets to design it and we help them en-US build it, Ms. Oprysk said. Thats the key en-US aspect because you are letting the other peren-US -en-US son get behind the wheel and its their own en-US design.en-US And theres no rules to jewelry.en-US The company offers all types of jewelry en-US from necklaces to pendants and rings to en-US earrings and all of the above and anyen-US -en-US thing that can be put together, realistically, en-US according to Ms. Oprysk. So, the sky is the en-US limit. The store also is the home of the $1 en-US Watch Battery, which was Mr. Oprysks sigen-US -en-US nature deal and will continue. But one interen-US -en-US esting item on the shelves at LSO is green en-US gold, which has a slight tinge to it in certain en-US light and is becoming increasingly as popuen-US -en-US lar as white, yellow, rose or black gold.en-US I think I design at least four pieces of en-US green gold (per week) and people love it, en-US Ms. Oprysk said. If you wear green or blue, en-US you can really see it pop. If you put red, en-US green or blue stones with it that also helps it en-US show up.en-US The name of the business is a combinaen-US -en-US tion of her parents initials Larissa and en-US Stanley Oprysk and the company mainen-US-en-US tains a down-to-earth family mindset. In en-US fact, the company routinely offers weekend en-US specials such as a recent silver sale of an en-US Italian silver line and deals throughout the en-US year to see what is most desired by the cusen-US -en-US tomer. It also is easy to track the company en-USand its many products and services en-US through the website and Facebook en-US pages, which offer news and updates en-US about the newest products under availen-US -en-US able.en-US We put on a lot of events to kind of en-US change things up and we have a lot en-US more fresh ideas for customers, Ms. en-US Oprysk said. I like the idea of starting en-US new traditions. But the events help peoen-US -en-US ple because they get to touch and feel en-US what we have and see how it looks on en-US them and whatever is popular with cusen-US -en-US tomers.en-US We have beverages and food for en-US people, and its a nice little atmosphere en-US for them.en-US The store also does watch and jewelen-US-en-US ry repair and pear restringing and is a en-US full-service jewelry store. The central en-US location also is convenient to nearly en-US any customer on the Treasure Coast.en-US For more information about LSO Jewelen-US -en-US ers, please visit the website at en-US www.LSOjewen-US-en-US elers.com/en-US or call the shop at 772-621-7881, en-US which is located at 906 S.W. Where did I put that hotel en-US reservation? Did I MapQuest the driving en-US directions to the resort? Dont forget to lock en-US the door when you leave..its enough to en-US give you a nosebleed!!! en-US Now, I know, most of you are thinking, en-US whats all the fuss about, its only a en-US vacation? But this is no ordinary vacation. en-US This vacation we are going to be celebrating en-US my daughters 21st birthday in Orlando en-US with our Family! en-US You see, to most people turning 21 is a en-US rite of passage, AKA, I can drink alcohol en-US legally now! But for my daughter, turning en-US 21 is so much more. en-US Rachael was born with a disease call en-US VACTERL Association, which has almost en-US taken her life on several occasions! For en-US those of you who are not familiar with the en-US disease, VACTERL Association is an en-US acronym used to describe a series of birth en-US anomalies:en-US V stands for vertebrae, which are the en-US bones of the spinal column.en-US A stands for imperforate anus or anal en-US atresia, or an anus that does not open to the en-US outside of the body.en-US C is added to the acronym to denote en-US cardiac anomalies. en-US TE stands for tracheaesophageal fistula, en-US which is a lack of connection between the en-US trachea and the esophagus.en-US R stands for renal or kidney anomalies.en-US L is often added to stand for limb en-US anomalies (radial agenesis).en-US There is a wide range of manifestation of en-US VACTERL association so that the exact en-US incidence within the population is not en-US exactly known, but has been estimated to en-US occur in 1 in 1,000,000 newborns. Babies en-US who have been diagnosed as having en-US VACTERL Association usually have at least en-US three of these individual anomalies, Rachael en-US has all six! en-US Back in 1996 when Rachael was born, en-US very little was known about the disease. en-US Most children were given a life span of en-US about 18-25 years. But since she was born 8 en-US weeks prematurely weighing only 1 lb. 6 oz., en-US her doctors gave her less than a 2 percent en-US change of surviving to her first birthday.en-US Rachaels first surgery was performed en-US when she was only a few hours old to en-US connect her esophagus to her stomach so en-US she could be fed. The surgery was risky en-US because she was in critical condition, but en-US necessary if she would have any chance at en-US survival. They were able to connect the en-US esophagus to her stomach and they put a en-US feeding tube down her nose because she en-US was too tiny to breast or bottle feed. Seven en-US weeks later she had her first open heart en-US surgery to separate conjoined Mitral and en-US Tricuspid valves and repair the leaking en-US Mitral valve.en-US Fast forward 21-years...en-US Living with VACTERL Association has en-US not been easy! Rachael has undergone 36 en-US corrective surgeries, has been hospitalized en-US over 400 times, takes 30 different medicaen-US -en-US tions every day, gets fed through a feeding en-US tube (now in her stomach), is dependent on en-US Oxygen 24 hours a day/ seven days a week, en-US has a supra-pubic catheter to go to the bathen-US-en-US room because her bladder stopped working en-US and she walks with the assistance of a en-US walker or uses wheelchair.en-US Recently we found out that Rachaels en-US Congestive Heart Failure has gotten worse en-US and she will have to have a heart transplant en-US and be on anti-rejection medications for en-US the rest of her life, Which makes turning 21 en-US even more poignant.en-US But dont feel sorry for Rachael! Despite en-US her physical limitations, she graduated from en-US high school with honors while being home en-US schooled and spends her days at home with en-US her Chihuahua Mookie constantly by her en-US side, drawing on her laptop computer (shes en-US a brilliant graphic artist!) and writing a blog en-US about her Characters from her favorite en-US online game, Furry Paws. Rachael has made en-US friends world-wide online and has hunen-US -en-US dreds of Twitter and Facebook followers! en-US Recently while visiting one of our local en-US Comic Shops in Fort Pierce, she was asked en-US to join a local Cosplay Group where she en-US plays her favorite comic villainess, Harley en-US Quinn! en-US Rachael will never lead a normal life en-US and cannot even due the most simple of en-US tasks like brushing her own hair. She will en-US never be able to live on her own and be en-US self-sufficient and will probably spend the en-US rest of her life living with me, her mom. en-US We dont know when Rachaels disease en-US will take her life, but for now she is happy, en-US she is alive and she loves life.en-US So, the moral of this story is; make sure en-US to hug and kiss your children as often as en-US you can, tell them you love them as many en-US times as you can in a day and live life every en-US day as if its going to be your last! Because en-US you never know whats going to happen!en-USBirthday means milestone for local woman en-USAfter Rachael's surgery when en-US she was just a few weeks old.en-US Rachael graduating from en-US Westwood High School.en-US Rachael dressed up as en-US Harley Quinn. en-UScers during the City Commission Conferen-US -en-US ence Agenda, emphasizing that Fort Pierce en-US needed to continue enforcing the policies en-US currently in place to prove compliance with en-US Federal Emergency Management Agency en-US regulations and maintain its high CRA raten-US -en-US ing. en-US FEMA has made the regulations and en-US guidelines, but locally weve adopted them en-US as our local ordinance, Mr. Thomas en-US explained. So even though FEMA sets the en-US rules, these are our rules. So when were en-US having these discussions about substantial en-US damage and the 50 percent rule, these are en-US your rules. Weve adopted these standards, en-US so this presentation is just to knock some of en-US the rust off so that you as policymakers and en-US decision-makers understand whats in place en-US already in your community. en-US Several new rules affecting new construcen-US -en-US tion in flood zones are scheduled to go into en-US effect Jan. 1, with two slated to cost the most en-US money. One is a new requirement by the en-US Florida Building Code that all new conen-US -en-US struction in a flood zone must be built at en-US one foot elevation above the base flood line. en-US The other is the expansion of the pilings en-US requirement for new Hutchinson Island en-US homes built in special flood hazard zones. en-US The significance with the new maps is en-US that the requirements for Coastal AE and V en-US are now the same, he added. Previously en-US where new construction in the V Zone had en-US to be built up on piles, that requirement is en-US now in the Coastal AE Zone as well. So thats en-US substantial for the island in particular.en-US Commissioner Rufus Alexander -the en-US only Commissioner in attendance other en-US than Mayor Linda Hudson -wondered en-US whether the new regulations would force en-US some developers to lean toward rehabilitaten-US -en-US ing older properties, but Mr. Coss said it en-US would all depend on the federal governen-US -en-US ments 50 percent rule and any previous en-US flood damage claims on the property in en-US question.en-US Basically what that means is that damage en-US or improvement from any origin -so not en-US necessarily flooding -where the cost to en-US restore it back to the pre-damaged condition en-US exceeds 50 percent of the market value, he en-US said. Those structures have to comply to en-US the new standards as if it were a new strucen-US-en-US ture.en-US Building officials in the city currently en-US perform a five year look-back on each rehab en-US application in a flood zone that comes en-US before them.en-US That means we evaluate going back five en-US years, so before any permits can be issued en-US for repairs to damaged structures, we have en-US to take a look at the cost of repairs over the en-US past five years, Mr. Coss explained. If that en-US cost exceeds 50 percent of the value of the en-US building, we cant issue permits without en-US requiring them to take additional preventaen-US -en-US tive measures to reduce flooding in the en-US future. en-US The Building Department is currently en-US evaluating flood damages incurred by the en-US Orange Blossom Business Center, which has en-US remained uninhabitable since the structure en-US was inundated by Hurricane Irma floodwaen-US -en-US ters in September. All of that facilitys tenen-US-en-US ants have been displaced, including the St. en-US Lucie County School Board and two educaen-US -en-US tional institutions. en-US There are 760 students that are disen-US -en-US placed, and there are literally thousands of en-US workers who their workplace is displaced en-US and maybe theyve been out of business, en-US Mr. Thomas said. The word on the city is en-US Fort Pierce is being mean to me, they wont en-US let us back in, but its because of these proen-US -en-US grams that were making sure that they meet en-US the requirements. The Orange Blossom en-US Business Center is a very bittersweet experien-US -en-US ence. Its bitter because its impacting so en-US many thousands of our citizens and their en-US livelihoods, but its sweet, because its only en-US one spot. en-US Mr. Coss said the owner has a novel plan en-US utilizing flood-proofing panels to protect en-US his facility in the future from such flood en-US events. en-US We just last week had a meeting with the en-US owners engineer, and we had a great discusen-US -en-US sion about their intention to flood-proof the en-US entire building on the outside, he said. en-US Flood-proofing -to make it simple -is en-US basically turning the building into a boat, so en-US that no matter how high the water comes, en-US its waterproof on the outside. If they are en-US able to accomplish that, it will put the city of en-US Fort Pierce on the national and internationen-US-en-US al map for success because thats huge.en-US Even if the unique idea succeeds, School en-US Board Chief Communications Officer Kerry en-US Padrick said the organization has no plans en-US to return to its former home.en-US Future plans do not include moving back en-US to the Orange Blossom Business Center, she en-US said. District officials are in the process of en-US exploring alternatives for a future site.en-US Mr. Thomas said the entire city would be en-US put at risk of losing all federal support for en-US future storms if the Orange Blossom Busien-US en-USness Center were not forced to comply with en-US the 50 percent rule. en-US Right now, were dealing with just one en-US individual location thats very complex -en-US this could be your whole city next year, he en-US said. If you make a decision for one busien-US-en-US ness owner or one homeowner and we break en-US these rules, then how this impacts the city en-US going into the future is that if were out of en-US compliance and nobody can get a loan, en-US nobody can get a mortgage, then Fort Pierce en-US dies because the federal government wont en-US allow them to build here. en-US en-USFlooden-USFrom page 1

Small dogs en-US can be trained to alert their owners to low en-US blood sugar, the onset of seizures, epilepsy en-US and peanut allergies, among other ailments. en-US They are also used therapeutically for conen-US -en-US ditions, such as anxiety and depression. I en-US met a Vietnam veteran who travels with a en-US Yorkshire Terrier that aids in controlling his en-US post traumatic stress disorder symptoms.en-US The owners of these small service animals en-US are usually responsible people and do not en-US permit their dogs to sniff your food. I mean, geez, I was en-US a college athlete, I am a gym rat, I could en-US tough it out, it was premature to get a hip en-US replacement, I said to myself. But I had to en-US face the facts, it needed to be done. en-US Little did I know that this doctor is a freak en-US of nature And I mean that in the most en-US adoring way. He ran a marathon 3 weeks en-US after his own hip replacement. In Antarctien-US -en-US ca!! This en-US was done to prevent it from backing up into en-US the houses in that county, the news said.en-US The IRL flooded my father's house. Does en-US this mean that his house was blessed with en-US that human waste along with the brackish en-US water that is normally found in the IRL? en-US Does it also mean that those decision maken-US -en-US ers are responsible for the damage done to en-US the ecosystems in my precious IRL? en-US Can it mean that that county will be heaven-US -en-US ily fined by the State of Florida? I hope so. en-US Shame on you.en-USRegarding the flag en-US and National Anthemen-USMany of us, including veterans, are more en-US offended so many people place more value en-US on the flag and anthem than the citizens en-US those represent. People, including veterans, en-US are taking a knee to call attention to the en-US increased racial and ethnic discrimination en-US as well as nationwide police brutality and en-US police shootings that have taken more lives en-US in this country in five years (over 5,000 citien-US -en-US zens shot dead by police in five years) than en-US died in Iraq in 10 years. People are taking a en-US knee to call attention to the fact the police in en-US the USA, kill more citizens in one month, en-US than the other 34 nations of the Industrialen-US-en-US ized Western World's police kill in one year, en-US COMBINED! Let's not forget that before en-US 2009 the NFL players remained in their en-US locker rooms until after the anthem. If so en-US many people are offended by players placing en-US more importance on human beings sufferen-US -en-US ing from these injustices, than on the cloth en-US flag representing them, that is their proben-US -en-US lem. You don't get to violate player's (or anyen-US -en-US body else's) First Amendment right because en-US you want to ignore these injustices. Sorry, it en-US doesn't work that way. Now think about the good en-US that could come if that money were used for en-US something needed in this country. en-US Education could certainly put it to good en-US use. Maybe high school graduates would be en-US able to read, write and calculate a math en-US problem! The crumbling roads and bridges en-US could be improved, or maybe the money en-US could be used to help the poor victims of en-US Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Ten billion dolen-US-en-US lars.en-US Is building a wall really going to keep desen-US -en-US perate people out of the country? Soon the en-US restaurants and courses will be en-US filling up with our seasonal en-US residents from the north. Right now, is your en-US chance to enjoy a quick get-away before en-US prices go up and tee sheets fill up.en-US Luckily, you dont need to go far to get en-US away and enjoy a beach-side resort with en-US more than just golf, sand, surf and tennis. en-US In fact, you can roll the family truck out of en-US the driveway, take a short drive and enjoy a en-US weekend within a short drive from home.en-US The Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach en-US Resort & Marina in Stuart offers everything en-US you need to recharge your batteries without en-US making a long trip to do so.en-US Located on 200 acres between the en-US Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River en-US Lagoon, the resort offers 274 deluxe en-US accommodations, unspoiled beaches, a en-US marina, fine dining and bars, a BBQ and en-US picnic area, babysitting services, fitness en-US center, tennis courts, three swimming en-US pools, wave runner and kayak rentals, en-US bicycle rentals, and much more. There are en-US even plenty of activities designed just for en-US the kids so that you can truly get away.en-US The Ocean Club Course, designed by en-US Charles Ankrom and renovated by Dick en-US Gray, is the jewel of the resort. A few years en-US ago this 18-hole track underwent renovaen-US -en-US tions to all of its greens complexes. All 18 en-US were torn up and rebuilt. After a couple en-US years to grow in and mature, the results are en-US phenomenal and the courses friendly staff en-US is rightfully proud.en-US I was recently fortunate enough to be en-US invited out to see how the course has en-US matured since I last played here. Even with en-US the crazy weather we have seen this en-US summer, the greens are as close to perfect en-US as Ive seen in some time. They hold and en-US track well. In fact, my putts rolled as if on a en-US pool table with just enough undulations to en-US make things interesting.en-US Of course the greens are a little older en-US than when I last visited, and while quite en-US good, the staff insists they will be even en-US better. They took care over the summer en-US being careful not to cut them too short and en-US risk stressing them or allowing them to en-US burn in the summer heat. Once it cools a en-US bit more, the speeds will increase and en-US putting will be challenging.en-US There are three sets of tees on this par-61 en-US track that measures just over 4,000 yards en-US from the tips. The front nine plays out to en-US the Indian River Lagoon, while the en-US back-nine takes you out toward the Atlantic en-US Ocean.en-US At The Ocean Club, 12 par-3s await you. en-US There are five par-4s and the finishing hole en-US is a wonderful 485-yard par-5. While the en-US shortest par-3 plays just 120 yards from the en-US back, there are two long par-3s as well to en-US test your game. Four of the par-4s play to en-US the cardinal points on the compass. This en-US means that where the wind may help you en-US one one hole, the next it en-US could be in your face, or en-US coming from your right or en-US left. This course has en-US enough teeth to test better en-US players, yet remains fun for en-US the true recreational golfer. en-US If you play from the en-US correct set of tees, Ocean en-US Club will surely test your en-US game. If you can play to en-US your handicap around this en-US track, you have had a solid en-US round. There is a great en-US variety of holes here. I hit en-US eight different clubs off the en-US tee on the par-3s. Looking en-US back at my round, I hit en-US nearly every club in my en-US bag, except for my short en-US wedges, at least once from en-US the tee.en-US Every hole is well framed en-US and laid out. The villas en-US surrounding the course do not come into en-US play, but do make for tricky wind patterns en-US that add to the difficulty of the course. en-US Being so close to the ocean and river, means en-US that there is nearly always a breeze, and it en-US can change from hour to hour.en-US The 18th hole here is a great hole. Its not en-US often that us recreational golfers get a en-US chance to reach the green on a par-5 in two. en-US Playing under 500 yards long, a solid tee en-US shot will leave most of us with a fariway en-US wood or hybrid second shot to the green. en-US Of course, its not an easy shot with water en-US lurking in front and left of the green. en-US Fortunately the green is very deep and en-US receptive to long shots. Then there is always en-US the way I played it. Hit a poor tee shot to en-US the left and have to layup and then hit a en-US wedge into the green. en-US For more information on playing the en-US Ocean Club Course or enjoying a weekend at en-US the Hutchinson Island Marriott, visit en-USwww.en-US marriott.com/stuart en-US or call (772) 225-3700.en-US James Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years. en-US 9 en-USOen-USne of the questions that I am asked en-US frequently has to do with all of the en-US icons on the typical Windows en-US desktop. Arent they slowing things down? en-US I never use most of them, cant we get rid of en-US them? en-US I usually answer by explaining that most en-US of the icons on the average desktop are not en-US slowing the computer down at all but are en-US actually more like speed dial buttons on a en-US phone. Most desktop icons are just en-US shortcuts to programs buried deeper in the en-US system and are on the desktop so you dont en-US have to navigate through all sorts of menus en-US to launch a program.en-US If you look closely at the icons on your en-US desktop, you may notice that some icons en-US have a little arrow in a little white box at the en-US lower left corner of the icon. The arrow en-US itself is kind of curvy and will point to the en-US top right corner of the icon. You may also en-US notice that other icons (like the Computer en-US icon, the User folder icon, the Recycle Bin en-US Etc.) do not have the little arrow. en-US There is a big difference between the two en-US types of icons the icons with the little en-US arrows are actually just shortcuts and not en-US the actual program (or file). And shortcuts en-US are really really tiny and dont slow the en-US computer down at all!en-US But what about the icons that dont have en-US the little arrow? Are they safe to get rid of? en-US That question is a little harder to answer. en-US You see, any icon on your computer that en-US does not have the little shortcut indicator is en-US either a user file or a system file and en-US messing with it can cause problems. Icons en-US on your desktop that are not shortcuts are en-US either files that have been saved on the en-US desktop or system files that have been set en-US there by the operating system and care en-US should be taken when manipulating them.en-US Another point that I want to make is that en-US people have different ideas as to what the en-US phrase get rid of means! When someone en-US asks me to get rid of all of the unused icons en-US on their desktop what they are invariably en-US asking me to do is to delete them. Now if en-US you have been reading my column for any en-US length of time then you know how I feel en-US about deleting things from your computer en-US its not something I do casually! In fact I en-US have a saying if I were king Id have the en-US delete button stricken from the keyboard! en-US My idea of cleaning a Windows desktop en-US by getting rid of a bunch of stuff is not to en-US delete everything but leans more in line en-US with the phrase out of sight, out of mind. en-US People will watch with a puzzled look on en-US their face as I create yet another icon on en-US their desktop (a new folder), name it en-US something like Desktop Clutter and then en-US drag all of the unused icons into the new en-US folder. Then, once the desktop is down to en-US just the icons that actually get used, I drag en-US the Desktop Clutter folder and drop it into en-US the Users folder. en-US Then I usually spend the next ten en-US minutes of so explaining why I went en-US through all that trouble rather than just en-US deleting everything. My explanation really en-US boils down to habit. One of the worst habits en-US people get into with their machines is the en-US habit of deleting stuff every time they tidy en-US up. Sure its great to have a tidy desktop but en-US if you are in the habit of casually deleting en-US stuff then eventually you are going to delete en-US something you actually need. Even worse is en-US the habit some people have of emptying the en-US recycle bin every time they delete someen-US -en-US thing. Thats just a disaster waiting to en-US happen.en-US My philosophy is out of sight, out of en-US mind. Tidying up my system by sweeping a en-US bunch of unused shortcuts (and actual files en-US for that matter) into a folder and then en-US moving the folder out of sight ensures that en-US if I accidentally do get rid of something en-US that I need, I can recover it easily enough en-US by digging into the folder where I moved it. en-US Does this mean that I am completely en-US against deleting everything? No, of course en-US not. Some things are indeed trash and I en-US have no problem deleting them I just have a en-US real problem with the habit of deleting en-US things with barely a second thought. Ive en-US seen too many people delete their way into en-US too many problems. en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. That en-US dynamic and all the attention paid to en-US early screening and mammograms, have en-US dovetailed with a procedure that has reven-US -en-US olutionized the treatment of breast canen-US -en-US cer sufferers around the world since the en-US mid-2000s.en-US The procedure is called Intraoperative en-US Radiation Therapy or IORT, teams breast en-US cancer surgeons with oncologists to deliven-US -en-US er a single dose of radiation during a en-US lumpectomy. This strategy provides en-US immediate and precise doses of radiation en-US while the patient is still under sedation. en-US Once the tumor is removed, a catheen-US-en-US ter-like device with a balloon-shaped en-US applicator at the tip is temporarily placed en-US into the lumpectomy cavity, according to en-US a press release. Within the balen-US -en-US loon-shaped applicator is the Xoft Sysen-UStems proprietary   miniaturized X -ray en-USsource, which is inserted into a flexible en-US balloon-shaped applicator that closely en-US matches the size and shape of the patients lumpectomy cavity.   The minia en-US-en-US turized x-ray device is then energized to en-US deliver a full course of radiation in a single en-US dose via the balloon-shaped catheter, en-US from directly inside the lumpectomy cavien-US-en-US ty. This targeted dose of radiation kills en-US cancerous cells while sparing healthy tisen-US -en-US sue, such as the heart, lung, and ribs.   After   the radiation has been deliv en-US-en-US ered, the balloon is deflated, removed,   and the ca vity is closed. en-USDr. Craig Wengler, a breast surgical en-US oncologist who works with the Martin en-US Health System team, said the procedure en-US has made a world of difference to en-US patients recovery times and helped get en-US them on their feet and out of treatment en-US in hours as opposed to weeks. But it is the en-US advance attention to screening that is en-US assisting doctors to treat breast cancer en-US and help people recover with much more en-US frequency.en-US Its just amazing, just since I started en-US medical school everythings changed in en-US the breast cancer world from diagnosis en-US to treatment and all different aspects of en-US them, Dr. Wengler said. Forever, we en-US have been doing whole-breast radiation, en-US which is the gold standard of radiotheraen-US-en-US py and it last for six to seven weeks en-US although it only takes about five minutes en-US per session but its a lot on the patient.en-US Among the other benefits are cost-saven-US -en-US ing measures from the shorter therapy en-US time under the older methods. The proen-US-en-US cedure only works on tumors of about 2 en-US centimeters of less in diameter, the en-US woman has to be over age 50 and there en-US cannot be any cancer in the lymph nodes, en-US however, and patients who get the treaten-US -en-US ment still suffer the effects of fatigue and en-US radiation burns and potential scarring of en-US the lung or heart vessels. But the fact that en-US patients are in-and-out of the office in en-US such a short span allows them to return en-US to their active lives faster.en-US The also is conen-US -en-US formal targeting en-US with unique stepen-US-en-US ping source attacks en-US cancer from directen-US -en-US ly within lumpecen-US -en-US tomy cavity, and en-US operating rooms en-US do not require en-US alterations in order en-US to perform the procedure. The 1990s saw en-US a change in the procedure called partial en-US breast radiation, but the IORT procedure en-US has proved beneficial in many more ways.en-US About 60 to 70 percent of patients are en-US able to be treated with a lumpectomy, en-US which are for early-stage breast cancers, en-US Dr. Wengler said. This truly has changed en-US everything, and the better the diagnostic en-US tools and the better that people are able en-US to find this early, the more people can en-US have a minimal portion of treatment and en-US a minimal amount of effort to have the en-US same survival rates and long-term effects.en-US Finding this early means everything in en-US breast cancer treatment, and it is one of en-US the things that has revolutionized our en-US world.en-US For more information about Dr. Wenen-US-en-US glers practice and efforts, please visit en-US www.martinhealth.org/craig-wengler-en-US md-breast-cancer-surgery-stuart-fl.en-USPalm City doctors office specializes in en-US breast-cancer surgery, treatmenten-USBy Gaylon Parkeren-USgparker@hometownnewsol.com en-USDr. Wengler

The third-annual Pack the en-US House event was rescheduled for Oct. 27 to en-US 28, and the effort will help many facing en-US hardship following Hurricane Irma.en-US While the storm might have forced TCFB en-US staff to reschedule the event from its origien-US -en-US nal date on Sept. 8, the storm also forced en-US cancellation of other Hunger Action en-US Month events in September. With a little help from ghosts, en-US goblins, witches and werewolves, the restauen-US -en-US rateurs have made one of the most popular en-US restaurants in Fort Pierce one of the spookien-US -en-US est. en-US Dinos Family Restaurant has been serven-US-en-US ing generous helpings of delicious food en-US since 1982. They are legends in the restauen-US -en-US rant business Theres not many people in en-US the area who havent stopped by for a home-en-US cooked meal. Theres hardly a soul who isnt en-US familiar with the restaurant, which has been en-US located on the corner of U.S. 1 and Juanita en-US Avenue, just north of North Bridge, for all of en-US those years. But, how many of you have en-US experienced Spooky Dining at the restauen-US -en-US rant?en-US Each year, Mr. Humphreys decorates the en-US entire restaurant. Yes, the whole place is en-US decked out with ghosts, goblins and ghouls. en-US Its really is a sight to see. This year, he has en-US outdone himself, adding not only more decen-US-en-US orations outside, but a spooky forest and en-US haunted hotel thats sure to scare you silly.en-US I start in August but then we had the en-US hurricane and I had to take it all down, Mr. en-US Humphreys. After we got electricity back en-US on, we got back to business putting the decen-US-en-US orations up. It takes a while, but its just so en-US great when its finished.en-US While enjoying the incredible attention to en-US detail, every little thing you can imagine is en-US touched by Halloween, there is also the en-US incredible food. en-US Dinos is known for comfort food. This is en-US the place you go when you want meatloaf en-US and mashed potato just like your mom en-US made. Or lasagna just like grandmas. The en-US down-home cooking is just what is needed en-US after a long day at work or a lunch before en-US heading into an afternoon of Sunday activien-US -en-US ty. en-US There are appetizers on the menu such as en-US buffalo shrimp, which adds a little kick to en-US start your meal. There is also homemade en-US clam chowder served with oyster crackers en-US and fresh bread. en-US When I visited the restaurant, I tried the en-US center-cut grilled pork chops with mashed en-US potatoes and green beans. The chops were en-US incredibly tender and the portion so big that en-US I ended up taking half of it home. en-US My guest tried the fried seafood platter. en-US Full of grouper, shrimp, scallops and oysen-US-en-US ters, this meal was full of fresh seafood fried en-US to perfection. Again, another large portion en-US that made for a great treat later that night.en-US There are intriguing spooky items on the en-US menu such as Batty Fried Shrimp, Howling en-US Sausage and Penne, Spooky Lasagna and en-US Ghostly Seafood all to make your dining en-US experience a little more frightful.en-US Our waitress suggested we try the homeen-US -en-US made peanut butter pie that Mrs. Humen-US-en-US phreys makes fresh each day. It might be one en-US of the best desserts Ive ever tried. It was en-US creamy, and sweet, yet not overpowering. en-US Like our waitress said, it is the perfect desen-US -en-US sert and even goes great with a cup of coffee en-US in the morning. I would let you know if I en-US agree with her, but my piece of pie didnt en-US make it past that evening.en-US As we were ending our dinner, we were en-US excited to find out that the entertainment en-US portion of the evening was just beginning. en-US For those who dare (cue witches cackle or en-US ghoulish laughter), Mr. Humphreys has en-US turned one of his dining areas into a room of en-US haunts. Each family who eats at the restauen-US -en-US rant is invited to take the haunted tour. en-US From coffins and spiders to haunting en-USghouls, three-headed dog, werewolves, en-US haunted hotel rooms, and a forest full of en-US fear, this room is really a terrifyingly aween-US -en-US some, spook-filled good time.en-US For more information on the Spooky en-US Dining experience at Dinos Family Restauen-US -en-US rant, call (772) 465-5217, visit them on en-US Facebook, their website at en-USwww.dinosfamien-US-en-US lyrestaurant.neten-US or stop by Tuesday-Saturen-US -en-US day, from 4-9 p.m. or Sunday from 11 a.m.-9 en-US p.m. They are closed on Mondays. en-USDinos offers spook-filled dining experienceen-USBy Anna-Marie Menhenotten-USnews@hometownnewsol.com Photo by Anna-Marie Menhenott en-USThe spooky forest and haunted hotel at Dino's is sure to make your en-US dinner a ghoulish experience.en-USDining en-US &en-US Entertainmenten-USFRIDAY, OCT. 20, 2017 en-US FORT PIERCEen-US WWW.HOMETOWNNEWSSLC.COM PAGE 13
