The Stamp Out en-US Hunger food drive is being recognized across the en-US Treasure Coast, and with the help of mail carriers en-US it means literally tons of food to stock area charien-US-en-US ties.en-US The event is organized annually by the Nationen-US -en-US al Association of Letter Carriers and is the en-US nations largest single-day food drive. The influx en-US of food is especially vital during the summertime en-US when children are not receiving school lunches en-US and many workers have their hours cut back en-US because of the lull in seasonal employment, en-US according to a press release.en-US Each year the massive undertaking provides en-US tens of thousands of pounds of food. During the en-US event, thousands of residents will put food by en-US their mailboxes, and hundreds of volunteers will en-US spend hours sorting and transporting donations. en-US Customers simply leave their donation of en-US non-perishable goods next to their mailbox en-US before the delivery of the mail on Saturday, May en-US 13. Letter carriers will collect these food donaen-US-en-US tions on that day as they deliver mail along their en-US postal routes and distribute them to local food en-US agencies. Please visit en-US to learn en-US more about the organization and the event.en-US Krista Garofalo, who is the chief strategy and en-US advocacy officer at Treasure Coast Food Bank in en-US Fort Pierce, said the event is very important to en-US the Treasure Coast Food Bank because the en-US amount of food we get on this single day makes en-US an enormous impact on our ability to meet the en-US increased need once children are out of school.en-US Nationwide, 175,000 letter carriers participate en-US in the event and they will collect donations left by en-US residents near their mailboxes. en-US 3 PORT ST LUCIE A new indoor park is en-USpreparing to open in St. Lucie West that is en-US sure to thrill people of all ages. The new Flyen-US -en-US ing Panda Extreme Air Sports location will en-US have dozens of activities for people to paren-US -en-US ticipate in, such as ziplines, a ninja obstacle en-US course, trampolines, a trapeze, aerial silks, en-US foam pits, extreme dodgeball, a parkour en-US course and so much more.en-US The 30,000-square-foot park is the brainen-US-en-US child of Flying Pandas General Manager en-US Vinny Grosso, who developed a love of en-US extreme sports at an early age. He found a en-US national franchise that suited his desires en-US and was off and flying toward development. en-US His physical background is in parkour and en-US he heard about a company called Circus en-US Tricks, which is the owner of the business en-US and it was exactly what he wanted.en-US What cant people expect is a better en-US question than what can they expect because en-US we have everything here, Mr. Grosso said. en-US You name it; if its extreme aerial sports we en-US can almost guarantee we will have it. The en-US idea is for it to be a one-stop-shop for en-US thrills.en-US Mr. Grosso has a passion for fun, physical en-US activities and also placed a massive emphaen-US -en-US sis on safety for customers. For trampoline en-US jumping, for example, only vertical jumping en-US is permitted, and people can only attend the en-US park by wearing special socks for the best en-US traction. Waivers also must be signed to join en-US in on the fun.en-US Its the place to be whether youre a en-USthrill-seeker or a parent with young en-US kids, Mr. Grosso said. Anyone can have en-US fun here and get an awesome workout en-US without even noticing because its such a en-US blast.en-US There is a variety of ticket packages for en-US the business and those are based on the en-US amount of time people spend on the courses en-US and their age group. Pricing is different for en-US kids 7 and older and 6 and younger and en-US there are 60-minute tickets available for $16 en-US and $12, respectively, and 90-minute tickets en-US for $21 and $16. en-US The parkour section of the park is a major en-US plus, Mr. Grosso said, because its indoors en-US and has a variety of objects to jump over en-US and on. Parkour is the discipline of using en-US random obstacles in parks or recreation en-US areas for exercise and ways to efficiently traen-US -en-US verse them. en-US One thing with it is it can be dangerous, en-US so we provide a safe environment inside so en-US people can practice it first with padding en-US before people take it outdoors, he said. We en-US want to provide a safe environment for peoen-US -en-US ple to try new things.en-US The park is expected to open within en-US weeks and could be ready to go by the miden-US -en-US dle of the month. Every time there is some en-US kind of hold-up in construction or whateven-US -en-US er, you get a little bummed out, Mr. Grosso en-US said. But at the end of the day it will open en-US sooner than later and its going to be well en-US worth the wait. Its the best thing everen-US For more information about Flying en-US Panda, please visit the web site at en-US www.flyen-US -en-US ingpanda.infoen-US/en-US or call 772-202-3615. ST. LUCIE COUNTY Rancher, conser en-US-en-US vationist and photographer Alto Bud en-US Adams Jr. was presented with the prestien-US-en-US gious Pete Hegener Leadership Award by en-US the Economic Development Council of St. en-US Lucie County at its 5th annual leadership en-US dinner on April 27.en-US The award is presented annually to a deden-US-en-US icated business leader who has made signifien-US -en-US cant contributions to St. Lucie Countys en-US economy and quality of life. The annual en-US dinner and celebration, held at Harbour en-US Ridge Yacht & Country Club and attended en-US by more than 200 guests, was sponsored by en-US Florida Power & Light Company. en-US Last years Hegener Award recipient, en-US attorney Michael Minton, presented the en-US award to Adams. en-US It is hard to imagine the Florida cattle en-US industry without thinking of Bud Adams en-US and his pioneer spirit in developing the Braen-US-en-US ford cattle as one of the premier breeds en-US adapted for Floridas climate and terrain, en-US said Minton. Mr. Adams means so much en-US more to St. Lucie County!en-US He is a leader in promoting sustainable en-US stewardship of land and an advocate on en-US behalf of the Indian River Lagoon. He capen-US -en-US tures Floridas nature and wildlife with his en-US camera and protects and preserves it en-US through his land stewardship. He has also en-US been a difference-maker for education, en-US serving on the Indian River State College en-US Foundation Board and as co-chair of the en-US Treasure Coast University Task Force in the en-US 1990s. en-US Adams was born in Fort Pierce in 1926 en-US and lived here most of his life, with the en-US exception of his high school years in Tallaen-US -en-US hassee when his father was a justice on the en-US Florida Supreme Court and while he served en-US in the U.S. Navyen-US during World War II. Returning in 1948, en-US he rebuilt Adams Ranch after theen-US ravages of the 1947 hurricanes. Using a en-US textbook on genetics, Adams set out to en-US breed a type of cattle that would thrive in en-US Floridas climate and, after thousands of en-US matings, developed the Braford breed that is en-US now raised from Argentina to California, en-US Texas and throughout the south, as are a en-US more recent Adams crossbreed, ABEEF.en-US Adams has been involved in far more en-US than ranching, however. He purchased and en-US preserved the P.P. Cobb building in downen-US -en-US town Fort Pierce, has been a key supporter en-US of Indian River State College Foundation, en-US the Backus Gallery, Heathcote Botanical en-US Gardens, Historical Society Museum and en-US the United Way of St. Lucie County. Adams en-US was also instrumental in bringing another en-US of this years Hegener Award nominees, en-US Mike Brown Sr., to St. Lucie County and en-US had a hand in promoting previous winner en-US Dr. Ed Massey of IRSC.en-US One of the largest ranches in Florida, the en-US 14,000-acre Adams Ranch, along with en-US Adams-owned acreage in Osceola County, en-US is ranked the 15th largest cow-calf operaen-US -en-US tion in the United States. They produce en-US 1,000 ABEEF cows every six months. en-US Between 5,000-10,000 people come from all en-US over the world each year to tour Adams en-US Ranch.en-US The EDC leadership selection committee en-US interviewed six semi-finalist nominees, en-US voted to choose three final candidates, and en-US then unanimously selected Adams as the en-US nominee who most embodies the leadership en-US and community mindfulness of the awards en-US namesake, Pete Hegener.en-US Each year it seems to get more difficult en-US to choose a winner from the veryen-US impressive group of nominees for this en-US award, said Pete Tesch, president of the en-US EDC. Each nominees accomplishments en-US and positive impacts on the community are en-US outstanding. And, choosing between three en-US finalists who have all done so much for St. en-US Lucie County made the final selection an en-US extremely difficult one. en-US The other finalists were Mike Brown Sr., en-US Harbor Community Bank, and Kathryn en-US Hensley, School Board of St. Lucie County.en-US Pete Hegener, the man whose actions en-US inspired this award, was a founding memen-US -en-US ber and integral partner of the EDC, served en-US on the Board of Directors, and was an Execen-US-en-US utive Committee member. Pete was a pillar en-US of the St. Lucie County community, having en-US played a key role in the development of en-US western St. Lucie County and Tradien-US -en-US tion. Friends and colleagues described him en-US as honest, visionary, and caring. He en-US passed away in March 2012, but his legacy is en-US recognized through this award. en-USAlto 'Bud' Adams honored with leadership award en-USFor Hometown en-USAlto "Bud" Adams

When, heaven forbid, I have to en-US the a retail transaction: "hi, did you find en-US everything you were looking for"?, do you en-US have our customer loyalty card?, do you en-US want to sign up for as loyalty card?, your en-US phone number"?, "do you want to open a en-US store credit card, you'll save $$$x", "do want en-US want an email receipt?" "what's your zip en-US code", ad naseueum. en-US Than there's the folks in front of you who en-US are getting on the job training for using their en-US chip-card, finding a store discount on their en-US data phone, arrrggh!en-US Yep, I'll continue to use the point-click-en-US sale, free shipping, no tax, hassle and drive en-US free internet shopping everyday.en-USSenior golfen-USMy daughter Boo, is always finding really en-US cool gifts to give me on My Birthday, Christen-US -en-US mas & Dad's day. She gave me some transen-US -en-US fers of Shamrocks & 4 leaf clovers to apply to en-US my golf balls so I can easily identify them in en-US the fairway or hazard depending on how en-US well they listen to me before I send them off en-US to do battle with the course. I have learned en-US that golf balls are inherently deaf, but talking en-US to them seems to pacify me as I make my en-US way around the Trails of Despair or Eighen-US-en-US teen paths to Insanity. I now have a dozen of en-US my projectiles of choice ready to be disen-US -en-US pensed along the path of righteousness or en-US ridiculousness, depending on my attention en-US to detail during the round. I also got to make en-US use of an used Egg box, a win/win, so I lose en-US about 3 balls a round so I'm set for 4 more en-US battles in the Sun. Gotta love Florida Golf en-USI don't know you're thereen-USWhile walking my dog down streets withen-US -en-US out sidewalks many vehicles come up from en-US behind and I don't have a clue they're there. en-US This may also be the case with children en-US going to bus stops. I only hear them when en-US they are a few feet behind me. PLEASE just en-US a quick beep of the horn to let me know en-US you're coming. There are also times when it en-US seems the driver wants to see how close he en-US or she can get without hitting me just missen-US -en-US ing the side mirror by inches. WHY? If my en-US dog were to step out a foot it would be road en-US kill, or heaven forbid a child. The width of en-US the road is enough for two vehicles so why en-US crowd someone walking when the driver en-US can move over three or four feet. I wonder en-US how many pedestrians hit by vehicles is the en-US result of these uncaring drivers. PLEASE en-US give me a break and save a life. Thank you. en-US ONE SHORT BEEP OF THE HORN!en-USThe way you need to be drivingen-USMy friends and neighbors, I have read en-US your words and sympathize with your conen-US-en-US cerns of other drivers, rather, vehicle operaen-US -en-US tors, we witness on a daily basis. With that, I en-US would like to offer my assistance.en-US For 10 years, I was an O.T.R. (over the en-US road) driver, recording nearly 1 million en-US miles in my log books. There isnt too much en-US that I have not seen on our nations highen-US -en-US ways.en-US In order to survive, one must have toleren-US -en-US ance. If an individual insists on driving like en-US an idiot, there is nothing you can say or do en-US that is going to change that.en-US This brings me to my second point: place en-US identifiers on these drivers. The way a peren-US -en-US son drives is usually, but not always, an en-US extension of their personality. So label that en-US vehicle and keep an eye on it. That way, en-US whatever he/she does or does not do wont en-US come as a surprise to you.en-US To reduce said surprises, employ the en-US what if factor. For instance, you see a en-US vehicle on a side street perhaps wanting to en-US turn onto the road youre on. What if this en-US individual decides to pull out right in front en-US of you? Being aware of this scenario/possien-US -en-US bility, you will already have formulated in en-US your head an out. . a plan of evasion.en-US After all of my years/miles of driving a en-US semi, I have had no accidents and one ticken-US -en-US eted warning. Yes, I was speeding and I en-US probably was deserving of a more severe en-US penalty. However, as the officer was standen-US-en-US ing at my door explaining my infraction, en-US another truck passes by us. That driver en-US keyed up the microphone of his CB and he en-US broadcasted the theme song to Cops en-US which played over my CB. The officer and I en-US just looked at each other, silent, then busted en-US out laughing; hence, just a warning.en-US Until again, be safe out thereen-USKissing your bumpersen-USThis is about the cars that are almost on en-US top of the other car in front of them.en-US And they keep braking, and they keep en-USbraking and they keep braking. They put en-US their foot on the brake.en-US Now, I dont know what is wrong with en-US these drivers, but you know that there is a en-US distance you are supposed to stay back from en-US the car in front of you. Read your manual.en-US If you didnt follow the car so close, you en-US would not be braking so much.en-US It is like these cars just want to go through en-US the car in front of them.en-USSolving the healthcare problemen-USHealthcare is in the news these days. en-US Obamacare, the disastrous Obamacare and en-US the new healthcare.en-US Why dont they just vote to give us the en-US same healthcare that all Congress gets, that en-US they vote for themselves? That is FREE en-US healthcare.en-US Why dont the American government en-US give all of the American citizens just free en-US healthcare, just like the Congressmen get? en-US Are we any less of a citizen than they are, or en-US is it because they are in control of voting en-US themselves free healthcare, free raises en-US more raises than anyone else gets in their en-US pay and so forth.en-US That is the solution to our healthcare. en-US 14 en-USIen-USt seems like I am always in search of the en-US quintessential sunset. In fact, I think en-US some of my worse vacation moments en-US have been when my wife Gloria and I were en-US stuck in a restaurant or some other en-US establishment at the very moment the en-US blazing sun was slowly sliding over the en-US western horizon. I never tire of taking en-US sunset photographs and always strive to en-US capture thatvermilion moment perfectly on en-US film, or rather, digital media.en-US Although Florida is known worldwide as en-US the Sunshine State and renowned for its en-US spectacular sunsets, there are a few unique en-US spots that make the moment shine. Come en-US along with us as I take you on a whirlwind en-US tour of just a few of the places weve shared en-US the special moment over the years.en-US The Florida Keysen-US Although not very close to the Treasure en-US Coast, the narrow coral outcroppings en-US known as the Florida Keys offer the special en-US vantage point of being surrounded by en-US water. A few years ago we spent the en-US weekend in Marathon, intent on driving en-US down to Key West one evening for that en-US citys famed Sunset Celebration on Mallory en-US Square. Once lazily ensconced in our en-US lodging, however, we blew off that idea and en-US drove just a couple minutes down to the en-US edge of the old Seven-Mile Bridge in the en-US late afternoon. Instead of throngs of en-US tourists mingling among the street en-US performers, we shared our own private en-US sunset with nothing but miles and miles of en-US watery expanse fusing itself with the en-US canopy of the blazing heavens.en-US The Gulf of Mexicoen-US Now everyone knows the Gulf of Mexico en-US is the primo spot for chasing the sunset, en-US and weve had the pleasure of watching en-US them from Naples to Sarasota. In fact, en-US theres really no bad spot on Floridas west en-US coast for sun-chasers such as ourselves. en-US Even so, weve made some of our more en-US recent sunset memories along the stretch of en-US coast between Venice and Sarasota. One of en-US our all-time favorite experiences was when en-US we lugged the beach chairs from our en-US mom-and-pop motel on Casey Key across en-US the street to the tranquil beach. There we en-US luxuriated in the cool evening air and en-US watched the silhouettes of young children en-US splashing in the surf against the red-orange en-US orb while the rhythmic sounds of a nearby en-US drum circle wafted on the breeze.en-US The Unexpected: Crystal River and en-US Mount Doraen-US While the focus in Crystal River was en-US actually snorkeling with manatees in the en-US enchanting springs that makeup this en-US waterway, the sunset still beckoned, and I en-US worried because the beaches along this part en-US of Floridas Nature Coast are few and far en-US between. So, the only option was the en-US 10-minute drive from our resort out a en-US winding road to the manmade Fort Island en-US Gulf Beach. What made the sunset so Answers Located in the Classied Section SCORPIO Oct. 24/Nov. 22 en-USObsessive thoughts will not make the solution to a en-US problem come any easier. As we slowly made our way out en-US onto the structure, we suddenly realized en-US that we were effectively surrounded by en-US water on every side, giving us 360-degree en-US view of the heavens as the glowing sun lit en-US up this part of the Gulf surrounding the en-US pier. Even the voices of our fellow en-US spectators were muted in awe of the en-US spectacular display.en-US Mount Dora was another surprise for en-US such photos. We missed our first sunset en-US there when we were trapped in an art en-US gallery in the late afternoon as part of a en-US walking tour. On our next visit, I made en-US sure we found our spot on the edge of en-US gorgeous Lake Dora, which proved an en-US excellent vantage point for our view of the en-US westering sun.en-US Closer to homeen-US The truth is, you dont have to travel en-US three or four hours to catch a good sunset en-US on the Treasure Coast. You just have to en-US find a perfect spot looking westward over en-US a body of water. Fortunately for us, the en-US Indian River here is sometimes a broad en-US waterway that at times even resembles a en-US bay, offering the perfect vantage point to en-US watch the sunset on a coast more known en-US for its sunrises.en-US On the southern fringes of the region, en-US the city of Stuart offers a number of great en-US spots to gaze at the westering light. We en-US actually discovered one of our favorites, en-US the southeastern section of Shepherds en-US Park, many years ago as we headed back en-US to our Miami Beach home. Here youll en-US find a circular boardwalk winding among en-US the mangroves that provides a comforten-US -en-US able perch to enjoy the show. As we sat en-US there that first evening on the boardwalk en-US watching the sun set behind the sailboats en-US moored in the St. Lucie River, my wife en-US failed in vain to make a Miami-area friend en-US on the phone understand how we were en-US watching a sunset on the Atlantic side of en-US Florida.en-US In Fort Pierce Beach, the marvelously en-US redone Jetty Park on South Hutchinson en-US Island provides the perfectly tropical en-US setting for watching the sunset over the en-US Inlet. Thanks to recent renovations in the en-US park area, we even snagged one of the en-US wooden swings recently, which added en-US another dimension of pleasure to the en-US experience.
