LUCIE COUNTY The St. Lucie County en-US Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously en-US recommended the Board of County Commissionen-US -en-US ers approve a conditional use permit so Florida en-US Power & Light can construct a 74.5 megawatt en-US solar power plant on Glades Cutoff Road. en-US The company needs the permit to construct the en-US $130 million plant housing 300,000 solar panels en-US on a 565-acre site currently zoned agricultural. en-US Amy Brunjes, regional manager for FP&L exteren-US -en-US nal affairs, said the company tripled its solar en-US capacity in Florida by the end of 2016 and had en-US plans to build eight new solar energy centers en-US around the state by 2018. en-US Were really excited about doing more solar en-US here with the Loggerhead Solar Energy Center, en-US and these [new centers] will produce a total of 600 en-US megawatts of new solar capacity, enough to power en-US 120,000 homes, she said. Each facility is enough en-US to power about 15,000 homes, so this is the lowest en-US cost solar ever built in America.en-US The company held a town hall meeting in Traen-US -en-US dition Feb. 27 to discuss the details of the proen-US -en-US posed project. About a dozen area residents paren-US -en-US ticipated, with most expressing concerns about en-US potential traffic problems, noise, and visual en-US impacts. Some of those same residents spoke en-US during the recent meeting, worried that the en-US planned plant will change their rural way of life. en-US Construction will take several months if ultimateen-US -en-US ly approved by the Board of County Commissionen-US -en-US ers, and county staff have recommended limiting en-US deliveries and construction activities between the en-US hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays and en-US between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Adjacent en-US property owners like Debbie Sherrod say their en-US tranquil, rural lives will be impacted regardless of en-US such restrictions. en-US We have cattle, and we moved out there to be en-US quiet and to be away from the city, she said. en-US These U-channels that are going to be holding en-US these panels have to be hammered into the en-US ground. Each and every day it en-US seems like there is a new scam plaguing our en-US community, seeking to steal your money or en-US personal information and wreak havoc on en-US your credit or financial stability. Remember en-US the old clich if its too good to be true, it en-US probably is. Not a day goes by that my en-US office isnt notified of a new twist on the en-US same old scams, and it amazes me each time en-US when I hear how unsuspecting victims have en-US succumbed to the scheme and are out en-US hundreds, thousands and in some cases, en-US hundreds of thousands, of dollars. en-US The Federal Trade Commission provides en-US up-to-date and helpful information on en-US current scams being seen around the en-US country and these tips to help you avoid en-US being a victim.en-US 1) Spot imposters. Scammers often en-US pretend to be someone you trust, likea en-US government official,a family member,a en-US charity, or a company you do business with. en-US Dont send money or give out personal en-US information in response to an unexpected en-US request by text, phone call, or email. en-US 2) Do online searches. Type a company en-US or product name into your favorite search en-US engine with words like review, comen-US -en-US plaint or scam. Or search for a phrase en-US that describes your situation, like IRS call. en-US You can even search phone numbers to see en-US if other people have reported them as en-US scams.en-US 3) Dont believe your caller ID. Technoloen-US -en-US gy makes it easy for scammers to fake caller en-US ID information, so the name and number en-US you see arent always real. If someone calls en-US asking for money or personal information, en-US hang up. en-US 4) Dont pay upfront for a promise.Dont en-US pay in advance for things likedebt relief, en-US credit andloanoffers, mortgage assistance, en-US ora job. They might even say youve wona en-US prize (like the lottery, a raffle or a sweepen-US -en-US stakes), but first you have to pay taxes or en-US fees. If you do, they will probably take the en-US money and disappear.en-US 5) Consider how you pay.Wiring en-US moneythrough services like Western Union en-US or MoneyGram isriskybecause its nearly en-US impossible to get your money back. Thats en-US also true for reloadable [gift] cards like en-US MoneyPak, Reloadit, Green Dot or Vanilla. en-US Government offices and honest companies en-US wont require you to use these payment en-US methods.en-US 6) Hang up on robocalls. If you answer en-US the phone and heara recorded sales pitch, en-US hang up and report it to the FTC. These en-US calls are illegal, and often the products are en-US bogus. Dont press 1 to speak to a person or en-US to be taken off the list. That could lead to en-US more calls.en-US 7) Dont deposit a check and wire money en-US back.By law, banks must make funds from en-US deposited checks available within days, but en-US uncoveringa fake checkcan take weeks. If a en-US check you deposit turns out to be a fake, en-US youre responsible for repaying the bank.en-US Before you give money to anyone you en-US dont know personally, talk to someone you en-US trust. Con artists want you to make en-US decisions in a hurry. Dont be threatened by en-US someone asking for your money, slow en-US down, check out the story, doan online en-US search, consult an expert or just tell a en-US friend.en-US You can review a complete list of the en-US most current scams and sign up for free en-US scam alert notifications from the FTC atftc.en-US gov/scams.Get the latest tips and advice en-US about scams sent right to your inbox and en-US avoid being a victim.en-US Ken Mascara is the St. Lucie County en-US Sheriff.en-USFROM THE SHERIFFen-USKEN MASCARA en-USabout casting, fishing safety, knot tying, the en-US tackle box, catch-and release-tactics, fishing en-US habitat and conservation and are taught by en-US professional guides and knowledgeable en-US anglers. Humans have been en-US killing each other since the beginning of time. en-US Humans were always at war and still are today. en-US Humans have killed each other by the millions en-US and still do. Six hundred thousand in the Civil en-US War alone. One hundred million since WW1. en-US People love violent sports, they love violent en-US video games, they love violent movies. People en-US love Horror movies, the more blood and guts en-US the better. Horror films outsell love stories en-US seven to one. Even children are violent, everyen-US -en-US body can recall a bully in school. Children love en-US video games that involve killing. They say it is en-US only a game until they get to the REAL battleen-US-en-US field. People love guns; guns are for killing en-US something, even defenseless animals. Deer en-US dont have a bullet proof vest against a scoped rifle.   It is interesting that not all people love vio en-US-en-US lence and the ones that do will deny it as they en-US shake their fists and fingers at you for not taken-US -en-US ing off quick enough when the light turns green. en-US They say that the elderly are poor drivers, they en-US forget that they too will grow old if they are en-US lucky. Patience is not a friend to violence. Peoen-US -en-US ple can be driven to violence, but not everyone en-US enjoys it. You may have to resort to violence for en-US self defense, for sure. It is also interesting that en-US Religion causes violence because some peoen-US -en-US ple will not believe what the others believe, en-US without any proof or evidence of what they en-US believe. No one knows what makes Humans en-US so violent or why some are violent and some en-US are not. If you put two babies side by side, en-US some will hit the other baby with the rattle and en-US some will try to kiss the other baby. History en-US proves that the violence and killing will never en-US stop and the number of people killed increases en-US with each new weapon invented. Humans can en-US now kill every living thing on Earth with Nuclear en-US War. It seems we are getting closer to that if you follow the news.   We can only pray to our en-USGOD that the killing and violence will stop en-US some day soon, before the violence causes our en-US end. Yes, we can only pray.en-USKudos to Trump supporter?en-USKudos to the writer who wrote about the en-US Trump supporter as well as All who are Guilty   the one who wrote about GREED.   To me, they are related.   Ignorance led 40 percent en-USof the registered voters to stay home last elecen-US tion.   Actually that number may be a bit lower en-USdue to the voting inaccuracies in the Detroit en-US and Milwaukee areas of Michigan, where en-US Republican legislators made sure blacks and en-US other minorities had less access to the polls by en-US removing many of the early voting sites, as was the case in the Milwaukee.   In addition, 75,000 en-USvotes were never counted, mostly cast by en-US blacks, in Detroit, Michigan due to faulty voting en-US machines allocated to those areas. Those machines   did not count the vote for President 75,000 times.   In the case of Michigan, which en-USwent for Trump, the margin was less than 15,000.   When the recount was ordered, the en-USRepublican legislators refused to allow a hand en-US recount and instead forced the recount to be en-US done by the same faulty machines, with same en-US erroneous result....In Milwaukees inner city, en-US voting was discouraged as well, courtesy of en-US their Republican legislators discouraging voten-US ing by minorities there.   In addition, a concen en-US-en-US trated and deliberate effort to discourage voting en-US was done by implying both candidates were awful, or both parties are the same.   The result?   Mr. Trump was elected by just over 26 en-USpercent of the electorate, Clinton received en-US almost 29 percent of the vote, 4 percent voted en-US Stein or Johnson and the lion share, almost 40 en-US percent, stayed home. This is how democraen-US -en-US cies die and the GREED, racism and bigotry en-US that drives others, was allowed to bring our en-US beloved nation to where we are now, with an en-US unstable, shameless, pathological liar, who en-US admitted being a sexual predator, in the oval en-US office embarrassing us and damaging our relaen-US -en-US tionships with our closest allies while working en-US feverishly to take from the needy to give to the greedy.   No truly Pro Life person would ever en-USsupport the repeal of Pro Life sustaining health en-US care from the tens of millions of neighbors we en-US are supposed to love.....We must expose the en-US Trump University Scam that has been imposed en-US on us for the fraud it is, only this time, not only en-US did we not get any of the 25 million he was en-US ordered by the courts to pay his victims, he en-US now has presidential powers to insulate his en-US scam upon the people. God help us all.en-USWhite American Taxpayeren-USLet me begin by introducing myself. My name en-US is White American Taxpayer. Not only that, an en-US American White Anglo-Saxon Taxpayer. Now en-US that I have your attention there is something en-US else I should share for the sake of transparenen-US-en-US cy. I am a Gay Woman who has been in love en-US with the same woman for over 35 years now.en-US Republicans seem to take issue with homoen-US-en-US sexuality. I dont understand how you can judge en-US the lives of others when you know nothing of en-US that which you attack. 35 years is a long time. A en-US lengthy engagement of 32 years plus three en-US years married. The world hasnt ended. Time en-US hasnt stopped. And the sun keeps coming up en-US every day.en-US I ask you, why on earth would anyone choose en-US to be gay? Choose to be beaten, shot, muren-US -en-US dered in heinous ways. Choose job discriminaen-US -en-US tion, employment discrimination, hate speech, en-US victims of hate crimes let alone housing disen-US -en-US crimination. The only two things I have going en-US for me is that I am not Black nor am I Latina. I en-US guess that makes the target on my back just a en-US teeny bit smaller.en-US Before you start spouting Scripture, we know en-US all about that angle. Were all going to hell for practicing a temptation sent by Satan.   Been en-USthere, done that. Remember Anita Bryant in the en-US s? Beautiful Christian woman! Spokesperen-US -en-US son for Florida citrus. We boycotted orange en-US juice and brought down the citrus industry. en-US There is no amount of Conversion Therapy en-US or Shock Treatments that will cure our afflicen-US -en-US tion. Our affliction is LOVE. We have been en-US forced down and maligned before and have en-US risen and fought for the Human Rights we all en-US deserve and that we will keep. And I quote, en-US One nation, under God, with liberty and justice en-US for all. No matter what, we will rise up! en-US God Bless the United States of America.en-USEve of Extinctionen-USAny intelligent person knows that if we keep en-US increasing the pollution and degrading of en-US Earths atmosphere that something drastic and en-US life threatening is going to happen. The evien-US-en-US dence is overwhelming as more and more en-US records are broken. Scientist confirm Global en-US Warming. The atmosphere acts as an insulaen-US -en-US tion blanket to protect us from extreme heat en-US and cold. It is very thin. There are no trees on en-US top of the Rocky Mountains. Money trumps en-US intelligence, that is a fact. There were people en-US with millions of dollars on the Titanic but could en-US not buy a seat on one of the few life boats. en-US When you put oil pipelines under lakes of drinken-US -en-US ing water it is money trumping intelligence. If en-US one was stranded in the desert with no service en-US on his cell phone he would give millions for en-US ONE drink of water. Money is mans invention. en-US It seems that God has provided all living things en-US the perfect environment in which to live and to en-US be happy in Earths paradise. It is Humans who en-US want to destroy it and kill each other. The en-US weather is affected by the temperatures of the en-US Oceans. Humans must have a temperature not en-US too much more then their own body temperaen-US-en-US ture in order to survive. Think about if we all en-US suddenly awoke to one hundred eighty degrees en-US some day? The sun is certainly capable of that. en-US We can get a sunburn now if we stand in the en-US sun too long. Its interesting that no one seems en-US to be concerned, even as they witness the en-US record heat, floods, fires, cold, hurricanes, en-US storms, droughts. People can be very smart but en-US not be intelligent. Maybe we will just clutch our en-US bank accounts and pray when the end arrives?en-US Intelligence should tell people not to ignore en-US reality and science!en-USWe love to dance! en-US 9 en-USST LUCIE COUNTY The Relay for Life en-US has become a nationwide movement that en-US involves millions of people each year. On en-US the local level the event has gone from being en-US specifically targeted to individual cities to a en-US county-wide outpouring of support for canen-US -en-US cer patients and survivors.en-US St. Lucie Countys event, which will be en-US hosted at Tradition Field on April 22 and 23, en-US has grown by such leaps and bounds over en-US the years that it shocks organizers. It is en-US because the event is targeted toward people en-US who have survived cancer as well as in recen-US -en-US ognition of the lives of those who have lost en-US the battle with the disease that makes it en-US personal and more community-based, said en-US Karen Aiello, the community manager for en-US Relay for Life in this area.en-US The best thing about Relay for Life is en-US that its a community event and its great to en-US see people come together for such a great en-US cause where we get to celebrate the survien-US-en-US vors and the caregivers, she said. Its just en-US really the only event that takes place in this en-US community where we get all types of cancer en-US survivors together.en-US The organization already is off to a masen-US -en-US sive head start, having raised about $41,000 en-US of its $77,000 goal for 2017. But, as in all en-US cases, they will try to far exceed that goal en-US until the last minute.en-US We get more and more money in every en-US day and we have a bunch of new teams joinen-US-en-US ing us this year and were really getting out en-US into the community, Ms. Aiello said. But en-US even if people cant attend the event they en-US can go to the Web site and participate.en-US Lead volunteer coordinator for the event en-US Jennifer Brock said the group is well on its en-US way and with the inclusion of the city of en-US Fort Pierce among its ranks among others en-US the event becoming more efficient and en-US community-oriented.en-US We are shaping up very well, we have 42 en-US registered teams and that includes the Port en-US St. Lucie Police Department and the Fire en-US department and representatives from the en-US city, Ms. Brock said. Its really new and en-US exciting to have all of them involved, en-US although the Port St. Lucie Police Departen-US -en-US ment has worked with us for years.en-US The event has a major impact on sufferers en-US of all types of cancer, Ms. Aiello said, and en-US its a cathartic kind of moment for some en-US people, because they get to process what en-US theyve been through.en-US Then, to raise the money and know that en-US its going to help those in our community en-US who might need rides and they know that en-US we can get them the resources. That along en-US with wigs for people who need them and en-US then the money also goes toward research en-US for the drugs, Ms. Aiello said. en-US But it also gives people a chance to meet en-US new people while contributing to a cause, en-US she said, and many business leaders attend en-US the events just like average working people. en-US This years event has a theme of super en-US heroes, and the coordinators are encouragen-US -en-US ing people to show up in costumes.en-US The event will feature a survivors free en-US dinner at 5 p.m. and people can register for en-US that beforehand or on the day of the event en-US and get a free T-shirt. The opening ceremoen-US-en-US nies begin at 6 p.m. and there will be live en-US entertainment and a DJ during the evening en-US with tons of vendors on hand selling food en-US and other items in an effort to raise money en-US until 6 a.m. because cancer never sleeps. en-US We will probably gain another 10 teams en-US in these last 30 days, Ms. Brock said. We en-US also have several fundraisers set up in the en-US next 30 days to help us get to our goal.en-US Tradition Field is located at 525 N.W. en-US Peacock Road in Port St. Lucie.en-US For more information about the Relay for en-US Life in St. Lucie County, please visit the Web en-US page at www.relayforlife.org/stluciecountyfl en-US or call Ms. Aiello at 772-562-2272 ext. 2408.en-USRelay for Life event just around the cornerBy Gaylon Parkergparker@hometownnewsol.com file photo en-USJosie June of Fort Pierce and Kristina Klahnel, Donna Jackson, Wilen-US-en-US liam Blackwell, Elisabeth Ingram, and Frank Arigoni of Port St. Lucie en-US lead fellow survivors for the first lap of the Eighteenth Annual Relay en-US For Life at Tradition Field in St. Lucie West. I understand this is a thing of the en-US future, but we are under the impression en-US that the invertors that are going to be put en-US out there are going to make a continuous en-US noise during the day thats comparable to en-US an air conditioner running. I would much en-US rather hear coyotes and cows than listenen-US -en-US ing to these invertors running all day en-US long. en-US Her mother, Joan Sharrod, also worried en-US about the noise impacts since she says en-US there is no noise currently to speak of on en-US their land. en-US They supposedly put noise detectors en-US in my property to address the noise situaen-US -en-US tion, she said. I dont know what they en-US were addressing because there was nothen-US -en-US ing over there to address. It was a non-en-US source, and I need to know how they got en-US their results.en-US Another adjacent landowner, Melissa en-US Jaques, said she and her husband puren-US -en-US chased 10 acres along Glades Cutoff Road en-US in 2015 and had no clue that FP&L en-US already had plans for the adjacent land.en-US In 2016 I had to pay $13,580 in impact en-US fees and FP&L already knew about this en-US project, she said. Then, after visiting other en-US websites, go back and start typing that first en-US address again, and you may notice it en-US remembers and the address appears in the en-US address pull-down menu. Click on it, and en-US off you go. en-US Or, how about any time youve filled out en-US an online form? With most web browsers en-US (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.), en-US you may get a message the first time you en-US enter information online asking, Would en-US you like to turn on auto complete? Click en-US yes, and now the computer will remember en-US everything you type into online forms and en-US present them, when appropriate, in a en-US clickable pull-down menu form. en-US For instance, lets say you are on the en-US Internet and you want to order something en-US online. You get to the order form page and en-US start entering your name shipping address, en-US email address, etc., into the form and (since en-US this your first time ordering anything en-US online) you have to fill out each field manuen-US -en-US ally. You finish filling out the form, place en-US your order and everythings fine. Now, as en-US you surf the Internet, you come to another en-US online form. Perhaps you are ordering en-US flowers online or booking travel arrangeen-US -en-US ments to Hawaii. Notice that this order en-US form is asking most, if not all, of the same en-US questions as before. As you begin to fill this en-US form out and enter your first name in the en-US first name box, you notice your name en-US appears as soon as you start typing. Same en-US thing happens when you fill in your last en-US name. en-US Youll notice that all of the fields that you en-US filled in before (as long as the fields are en-US named the same as on the Web page where en-US you first typed) automatically appear for en-US you so you can just click and press tab to en-US tab to the next field. It makes entering the en-US same information a snap as long as its en-US turned on and youre aware that its happenen-US -en-US ing. en-US What about if you want to clear the en-US history list (where your previously visited en-US web addresses are stored) or what if youve en-US made a mistake on a form and now every en-US time you go to type that same field the en-US incorrect information comes up before the en-US correct data? What do you do then? en-US Well, the controls for this remarkable en-US form remembering feature can be found in en-US the Internet options section of Internet en-US Explorer. (Similar settings can be found in en-US other browsers). Lets take a look, shall we? en-US Launch Internet Explorer and then go to en-US the tools menu. Then click Internet en-US options. The Internet options page opens en-US with the general tab in front. Its on this en-US page where you can set your start or en-US home page, or even clear your cookies or en-US temporary files. en-US Be cautious here though. Deleting your en-US cookies can cause some sites (such as en-US banking or portal sites) to forget who you en-US are and make you sign in all over again. en-US Next, lets click the content tab. Here en-US you will find a section called personal en-US information. It is in this section where we en-US can turn on or off the auto complete feature en-US (in case you want to disable it or maybe you en-US told it no when it asked and you now en-US want to turn it on). en-US Click the auto complete button and you en-US are presented with a number of options: en-US You can use auto complete with Web en-US addresses, forms, user names and passen-US -en-US words. You can even tell it to ask you if you en-US want to save passwords instead of automaten-US -en-US ically saving them for you, useful if other en-US people use your computer. en-US Made a mistake on a form field or two en-US and want to clear them out so you can have en-US it come up correctly? Click the clear en-US forms button and all of the form fields that en-US it has remembered for you will be forgoten-US -en-US ten.en-US en-US Now, go back to that pesky field that was en-US always coming up misspelled and enter it en-US right. Of course, youll have to enter all of en-US your other form data, but thats easy en-US enough, just enter it as you encounter it en-US and the computer will remember. en-US Take a look around at some of the en-US controls you may be surprised at just how en-US much control over your browser you en-US actually have. en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. I have it for all special en-US occasions. Christmas, New Years, Easter, en-US anytime I can find fresh lamb. en-US I was talking to a good friend at work en-US recently and sharing how I made a whole en-US lamb for Christmas. Thats right 40 lbs. en-US from head to tail. I explained how a great en-US chef friend of mine had given me a La Caja en-US China Pig roasting box. He used it to roast en-US whole pigs. He decided to build a more en-US commercial BBQ rig and gave me the box. en-US I was so excited. This is great. If it can en-US roast a small whole pig, a Lamb should en-US work as well. It is basically a stainless steel en-US box with a lid. You place hot charcoals on en-US top of the lid and it acts as a large oven to en-US slow roast about four hours en-US My friend at work said your wife must en-US be a wonderful understanding person to let en-US you bring home a whole lamb and cook en-US enough food for the whole neighborhood. en-US My wife is the greatest!! But lets face it en-US she is married to a chef. How bad is that. I en-US know what youre thinking! Yes, I also clean en-US up after myself. We have a wonderful en-US marriage. I do all the cooking, anything she en-US wants, and she takes care of everything else, en-US the painting, plumbing, family and it works en-US great. en-US OK, maybe I bring home a little too en-US much food sometimes. Like the time I en-US brought home two fresh whole salmon that en-US were around 35 lbs. Good thing we have a en-US large freezer. en-US But let me talk to you about the least en-US popular and most misunderstood red meat en-US in America -roasted spring leg of lamb. I en-US can hardly wait to start cooking! Unfortuen-US -en-US nately, for years many consumers would en-US buy imported lamb from New Zealand and en-US Australia, overcook it and serve it in en-US sandwiches. The flavor would be overpowen-US -en-US ering and the texture dry and chewy. en-US Lamb raised in the United States is grain en-US fed, giving the lamb a beefier flavor unlike en-US the imported lamb that is grass fed, which en-US causes a more intense flavor. Todays lamb en-US from New Zealand and Australia is grain en-US fed and has developed a more delicate taste. en-US I still prefer the domestic lamb, but I will en-US use the imported in a pinch with no en-US problem.en-US Chefs are better trained in the cooking of en-US lamb today, and it is seen more often on en-US restaurant menus as well as lamb shanks, en-US my second all-time favorite meat. en-US Lamb is very healthy to eat. It is a great en-US source of protein, essential vitamins and en-US minerals. It has the correct ratio of all eight en-US of the essential amino acids. en-US The meat has less marbling than other en-US meats, which means that most of the fat is en-US on the outside edges. A 3-ounce portion of en-US lamb leg has 74 mg of cholesterol compared en-US to 70 mg to a skinless chicken breast. en-US Calorie wise, there are 162 in lamb to 159 in en-US chicken. Now here is what you all have been en-US waiting for, my personal all-time favorite en-US recipe for Roasted Spring Lamb a la Costa.en-USROASTED LEG OF LAMBen-USIngredientsen-US 1 5-6 pound bone-in leg of lamben-US 1/4-cup olive oilen-US 2 tablespoons chopped fresh garlic cloves en-US (about 6 cloves)en-US 1/3-cup balsamic vinegaren-US 1/4-cup fresh squeezed lemon juiceen-US 1 teaspoon salten-US 1 teaspoon black pepperen-US 2 tablespoons leaf oreganoen-US 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary choppeden-US Directionsen-US In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients en-US together except the lamb. Make 8 or 9 small en-US slices all over the lamb. Insert the mixture en-US in the slices and rub the entire lamb with en-US the remaining mixture. en-US Place in a roasting pan fat side down. en-US Add 1/2-cup water and 1/2-cup red wine. en-US Roast at 350 degrees a little over an hour or en-US until a meat thermometer reads 135 en-US degrees.en-US Costa Magoulas is dean of the Mori en-US Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary en-US Management at Daytona State College. en-US Contact him at (386) 506-3578 or en-US magoulc@en-US daytonastate.edu. Fertilizer facts to make buying easier en-USWen-UShen you go to your favorite retail en-US nursery shopping for plant food en-US or fertilizer, you will find a en-US confusing array of brands and varieties for en-US almost any application imaginable. You will en-US find weed and feeds, bloom specials, water en-US soluble, granular, flowering along with en-US many others. Although each type of en-US fertilizer has a specific purpose, they all en-US have one thing, well actually three things in en-US common.en-US All plant foods and fertilizers contain a en-US certain percentage of Nitrogen, Phosphoen-US -en-US rous and Potassium. The numbers you see en-US on the package (for example: 8-8-8) en-US indicate the contents of each of the above en-US listed elements in the order I listed them. en-US Each of these elements serve a different en-US purpose and that is why you will find so en-US many different blends. For example, most en-US lawn fertilizers will contain a lager first en-US number (Nitrogen) and the second en-US (Phosphorous) and third (Potassium) will en-US be lower. The reason is that lawns need en-US plenty of Nitrogen to keep that lush, green en-US color and to maintain healthy growth. The en-US other elements, although still needed, are en-US not required in such large quantities. en-US Another good example is food for flowering en-US plants. In this case, you want the see the en-US second number (Phosphorous) higher than en-US the first and third. This type of blend is en-US desirable when you want your plants to en-US bloom. Higher amounts of Phosphorous en-US will help enhance that blooming process en-US while the lower Nitrogen levels will not en-US cause surge growth in the plant. en-US Nitrogen, the first number on the bag, en-US gives your plants that lush green color and en-US enhances the growth process. This element en-US is necessary for plant growth. Bear in mind en-US that sometimes too much of a good thing is en-US not always good. Applying too much of this en-US element can burn or kill your plants or en-US lawn. Always apply according to the label en-US directions.en-US Phosphorous is the second number listed en-US on your bag. This element is necessary for en-US plant health and also is important for flower en-US and fruit production. When you want to en-US help your plants bloom, you want a food en-US that contains a higher amount of this en-US element and a low amount of Nitrogen. en-US Potassium, also known as Potash, is the en-US third number on your bag. This element is en-US necessary for proper root development. en-US Potash can help plants establish a good root en-US system that can help the plant during en-US periods of draught stress. en-US Many fertilizers will contain a variety of en-US trace elements that will add even more en-US benefits for your plants. Iron is a common en-US trace element that is added to many lawn en-US and plant care formulas. Iron is often a en-US desirable ingredient if you are feeding acid en-US loving plants such as Ixoria, Azalea and en-US Gardenia plants. Some formulas will dig en-US deeper and contain trace amounts of zinc, en-US copper or manganese. en-US Manganese is a good en-US trace element to look for en-US in a citrus blend, for en-US example. en-US Magnesium in en-US another trace element en-US you might want to look en-US for in a plant food blend. en-US This element is useful en-US for greening up the en-US leaves of plants such as en-US Roses, Tomato plants en-US and Palm Trees. A en-US simple and inexpensive en-US way to add this element en-US to your plants is by en-US adding Epsom salts to en-US your soil. For a three en-US gallon potted plant, use en-US about a quarter cup and en-US sprinkle around the en-US plant. Water in after en-US applying. You can do en-US this bout once a month en-US for preventive mainteen-US -en-US nance or more often if your plants need a en-US boost. There is a wide array of plants that en-US can benefit from this simple trick including en-US Ixoria, Gardenia, Palms, and Hibiscus along en-US with many of your common indoor en-US tropicals. I have had many people come en-US back to me with great success stories on this en-US simple secret. A good garden retailer will en-US have Epsom salts included with their plant en-US food mix. en-US If you prefer a more natural approach, en-US one way to add natural nutrients to your en-US lawn is by using the mulching feature on en-US your mower. This returns the cut grass back en-US to the lawn where it then decomposes and en-US turns into natural lawn food. This is a great en-US way to help keep harmful residue of en-US commercial fertilizers out of our environen-US -en-US ment. en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape. T en-UShis past week marked the first time en-US the Arnold Palmer Invitational was en-US held since Palmer passed in Septemen-US -en-US ber. While the days after his death were en-US filled with sadness, the tournament was en-US held as a celebration. Sure there were tears, en-US but more from fond memories and joy than en-US sorrow.en-US Many of the games best players came to en-US not only play, but to honor the man who en-US took golf from the chosen elite, and brought en-US golf to the masses. Many of them credit him en-US for the profession they have come to have en-US and the wonderful life it has provided to en-US them. I can think of no other sport that has en-US been so fortunate to have such a perfect en-US ambassador.en-US Over the course of the week, many en-US people told their Arnie stories. If seems en-US that pretty much everyone on the planet en-US met or was touched by something Palmer en-US did. There was a familiar theme to each en-US story. They all involved Palmer making en-US them feel as if they were the only person in en-US his world at that moment.en-US I was fortunate enough to have met him en-US many times. I remember meeting him at a en-US practice round for the Masters. As you en-US would expect, he had his army following en-US him, cheering him on even though it was a en-US practice round. Maybe they were practicing en-US their cheering as well. en-US Between holes Palmer would stop to chat en-US and sign autographs before moving to the en-US next tee. People had him sign all kinds of en-US crazy things. I remember one woman had a en-US Pennzoil can, unopened and full of motor en-US oil. Arnie was in their commercials and he en-US got a real kick out of it.en-US All the times I saw him, he was always en-US smiling. Always ready to give you a en-US thumbs-up no matter what. He may have en-US been the most genuinely warm, humble en-US and welcoming person the world has en-US known.en-US The last time I saw Arnie was when I en-US stayed at Bay Hill in late 2015. The course en-US had gone through renovations and I was en-US invited to test my game on one of my en-US favorite courses. After breakfast and a quick en-US trip back to my room, I headed to the pro en-US shop to check in. There was Arnie. en-US His body looked frail and you could tell en-US that he was fighting something. However, en-US the smile he gave me when he said hello, en-US and the warm, sturdy handshake were just en-US like old times. We chatted for a few minutes en-US and I thanked him for all he had done and en-US explained that it was he who inspired my en-US father to take up the game and pass it along en-US to me. When we parted, he told me to enjoy en-US the day and left me with his trademark en-US thumbs-up.en-US I follow Palmers official site on instaen-US -en-US gram. This past week it was ripe with en-US wonderful pictures, stories, comments from en-US pros young and old, as well as many of en-US Arnies statements.en-US Some golf fans that I en-US know feel that todays en-US young golf generation en-US doesnt respect the game en-US or the games old players en-US as much as they should. en-US Reading through the en-US out-pouring of love for en-US Arnie through instaen-US -en-US gram, I will state that en-US they are quite mistaken.en-US Rickie Fowler is one of en-US my favorite players. This en-US week he honored Palmer en-US by wearing many of the en-US colors that Arnie was en-US famous for. His loud en-US yellow and green outfit en-US on St. Patricks Day was en-US my favorite. For the en-US event, Puma made Rickie en-US special shoes with images of Palmers en-US greatest moments on them. They are being en-US auctioned off to raise funds for Arnies en-US charities.en-US Sam Saunders is Arnies grandson. I have en-US met him only once, but you can immediateen-US -en-US ly tell that his grandfather had quite an en-US influence on him. He has many of the same en-US traits. en-US Last week he put on his grandfathers en-US sweater and played the role of player, host, en-US and much more. Like his grandfather did en-US back in the day, Sam played in the event. He en-US missed the cut by one stroke. A stroke he en-US would have had, if his tee shot on the par-3 en-US 17th had found the hole and not rattled off en-US the bottom of the flagstick, bouncing away.en-US But, he was there to shake hands, listen to en-US everyone who wanted to tell them their en-US experience with his grandfather, tend to en-US matters of the event and fill his grandfaen-US -en-US thers shoes for the week. He didnt take en-US home the trophy, but he was a constant en-US inspiration for everyone at the tournament.en-US We have played the first Arnold Palmer en-US Invitational without our King. It was a great en-US week filled with laughter and tears. We en-US should do this every year.
