This has been a code case for at en-US least a decade, and a series of issues have occurred. en-US There has been cooperation by the new property en-US owner to which Im grateful, but the community en-US that surrounds this property has been in despair en-US for all these many years.en-US The chairman emphasized the fact that the en-US county still holds a $50,000 code enforcement lien en-US against the property, which will remain attached en-US to the 10.18-acre parcel. It makes en-US extreme sense to be able to remain anonyen-US-en-US mous, rather than risk being attacked for en-US making statements that though truthful, en-US may exact anger or revenge by others.en-US Im writing this for owners or managers en-US of bars who actually want their businesses en-US to succeed and also for bartenders who care en-US about the tips they receive. In short, if you en-US please the customer, you will reap the en-US rewards. en-US I happen to like good beer, essentially en-US craft beers in the 5 percent or higher range en-US and not, the imitation beers, like light beers, en-US that to me, dont even qualify as beer. I dont en-US mind paying five or six bucks for a quality en-US draft beer, even when the crap beers are half en-US the price. What I do mind however, is the en-US server not respecting that Im paying more en-US and that there is a right and a wrong way to en-US pour quality beer.en-US My rule of thumb is simple: If youre en-US pouring the cheap stuff, do it anyway you en-US like, because your customer has no knowlen-US -en-US edge of what hes drinking because he is not en-US really a beer person. However, if the cusen-US -en-US tomer is paying $4. or more, pay attention to en-US what Im saying, and get it right, please. en-US Even when I try to explain this in person, en-US many servers still dont get it, or simply en-US refuse to do it right.en-US A proper pour consist of holding the glass en-US at an angle, with the faucet touching the en-US glass. Pull the handle forward and conen-US -en-US stantly hold the glass in place without moven-US -en-US ing it, whatsoever. When the foam begins en-US to overflow, tilt the glass to a straight up en-US position without lowering it, until its full. A en-US bit of foam is OK, but not more than a half en-US inch.en-US There is a sound reason for this method en-US of operation. When a glass of beer is full en-US after a proper pour, you can hold it up to the en-US light and see carbonation rising. If you en-US dont see that, the flavor will be changed due en-US to lack of carbonation and you now have a en-US flat beer. People who care about their beer en-US consider this ignorant and rude. Some will en-US not return to an establishment that cant do en-US this right, or they may tip less or not at all. en-US Oh, and it doesnt matter if youve been a en-US bartender for 20 years, you either do it right, en-US or you dont. Its your profit, or your loss.en-USIts not the older driversen-USThe individual who submitted the article en-US entitled Older drivers kill people did all of en-US us a great disservice. There are two categoen-US -en-US ries of drivers far more likely to kill or be en-US killed behind the wheel, those who are en-US impaired by drugs and/or alcohol, and driven-US -en-US ers between the age of 16 and 19. DUI skill en-US levels are so impaired that police officers en-US have simple field tests to determine sobriety. en-US And despite those younger drivers having en-US incredible vision, hearing, reflexes, coordien-US -en-US nation, etc. still have a high rate of fatal en-US crash involvement due to lack of experience, en-US impulsive behavior and poor judgement. It en-US was estimated by the Insurance Institute for en-US Highway Safety (IIHS) that keeping DUI en-US offenders with blood alcohol content of .08 en-US or greater off the road in 2014 would have en-US saved 6855 lives, compared to the 5700 refen-US -en-US erenced by the earlier submission concernen-US -en-US ing those over age 65. According to IIHS en-US statistics the safest age groups are 30 to 69, en-US with rates increasing at age 70 and signifien-US-en-US cantly rising only after age 85. And the reaen-US -en-US son those after 85 are involved in fatal accien-US-en-US dents is their own demise due to increased en-US susceptibility to chest injuries and medical en-US complications rather than an increased tenen-US -en-US dency to get into crashes.en-USNews on a recent pollen-USI love reading comments from your readen-US -en-US ers. en-US 8 en-USguarantees from the new property owner of en-US future cleanup.en-US While I am going to give kudos to the en-US property owner for making a 90 percent en-US improvement, we still have 10 percent that en-US has not been cleaned up, he added. en-US Because weve made so much progress, Im en-US going to ask for your indulgence to move en-US these two to the next meeting and postpone en-US these, because Id like to do is get some en-US cooperation from the developer and the en-US property owners to ensure that this final 10 en-US percent gets done.en-US Chairman Dzadovsky encountered en-US immediate opposition, however, from Disen-US-en-US trict 2 Commissioner Tod Mowery, who en-US thought the discussion might be premature.en-US I appreciate your thoughts and feelings en-US on this, [but] I just feel like were not at the en-US point where normally youd be dealing with en-US a lot of those things, he said. Were talking en-US more about a plat as well as the rezoning on en-US this, and I feel were going down a path thats en-US not a typical path for a rezoning.en-US Commissioner Frannie Hutchinson also en-US balked at postponing the decision, saying en-US the new property owners had made good-en-US faith efforts towards the cleanup of a majoren-US -en-US ity of the land. en-US Im extremely sympathetic to the conen-US-en-US cerns you have but I know the new owners en-US as you have mentioned have done a very en-US good job of stepping up to the plate and en-US acknowledging what they inherited, she en-US said. en-US Commissioner Hutchinson also had en-US questions for Jeffrey Johnson, the countys en-US senior planner overseeing the project, about en-US the debris still left on the land.en-US Is it just they ran out of time before this en-US hearing was done, are they in the process, or en-US did they walk from it? she asked.en-US Mr. Johnson then provided her and the en-US rest of the commissioners a brief summary en-US of the history of the land in question.en-US The property owner went to the code en-US enforcement board back on Oct. 1 and en-US received the release of lien for the two-acre en-US portion of the property, he explained. The en-US code board transferred the lien, which is in en-US the amount of $50,000 for the remaining en-US 10-acre portion, which still has piles of seren-US -en-US vice debris consisting of asphalt and conen-US -en-US crete. According to our code enforcement en-US staff, 90 percent of the debris that was on en-US the entire 12-acre property has been en-US removed. However, theres been no action to en-US remove the remainder of the debris since en-US the Feb. 1 Code Enforcement Board meeten-US -en-US ing.en-US Mr. Johnson emphasized that the Planen-US-en-US ning & Zoning Commission had unanien-US -en-US mously recommended approval of both the en-US rezoning and land subdivision last July so en-US the developer could begin a minor site plan en-US for an 8,300-square-foot Family Dollar store en-US on the smaller portion. He also presented en-US Orlando-based commercial real estate en-US developer Chris Stephens, who represents en-US the prospective buyer for the smaller parcel en-US and attempted to clarify the current status en-US of property.en-US In all honesty, its really been a wonderen-US -en-US ful example of the private sector and the en-US public sector trying to make some lemonen-US-en-US ade out of lemons when we found it, he en-US said. Ive been involved in this project for en-US over two years, and the seller has invested en-US almost half a million dollars in cleaning this en-US property to-date.en-US The developer is also paying to extend en-US municipal water and sewer to the site, which en-US were previously unavailable. en-US Thats a real benefit for future property en-US owners in the area who can one day come in en-US and tap into that in the right of way, he en-US added.en-US Chairman Dzadovsky said he has hopes en-US the Commission will approve a code en-US enforcement lien amnesty in the future for en-US just such situation.en-US Through the amnesty program, if its en-US approved by this Board at some later date, en-US well be able to provide up to a 90 percent en-US amnesty of the remaining amount of the en-US lien as an incentive, he said. What I was en-US looking for was some commitment from en-US this process to make sure that that last 10 en-US percent gets completed because I can tell en-US you this will be a great thing for this corner en-US of the property. en-US The Commission subsequently voted en-US unanimously to approve both the rezoning en-US and the land subdivision. 2015 2015 C H O I C E R E A D E R S Call And Ask About The Current Rebates And Special Financing Offers1-877-7NISAIRLic # CACO-41199 New Construction Service Maintenance Commercial/Residential Air Quality / Filtration / RetrofitsFREE ESTIMATESServing the Treasure Coast Since 1973 Keeping Florida Cool With A Tune-Up!Call Our Award Winning Service Department. The belief and en-US practice is incorporated into everyday en-US interactions between youth and adults, and en-US becomes the community culture in which en-US the child is raised. en-US In celebration of the programs success, en-US the Roundtable of St. Lucie County is en-US hosting at two day mini-masters youth en-US development symposium titled, From en-US Youth at Risk to Kids at Hope. The event en-US will take place Tuesday, March 28 and en-US Wednesday, March 29 at the Havert L. Fenn en-US Center located at 2000 Virginia Ave., Fort en-US Pierce. The symposium is open to the en-US public and free of charge. Day one will en-US focus on addressing racial and ethnic en-US disparities in the juvenile justice, education, en-US child welfare and health systems. Day two en-US will focus on using the power of connection en-US to heal adverse childhood experience. The en-US symposium will feature several guest en-US speakers including the founder of Kids at en-US Hope, Rick Miller, and Author, Poet, and en-US Screenwriter, Antwone Fisher, and commuen-US -en-US nity leaders. To register, please visit www.en-US roundtableslc.com or call 772-871-5880 for en-US any questions. en-US The greatest asset we have as a communien-US -en-US ty is our children and by working together, en-US community members and leaders are en-US indeed changing the culture for our en-US children here in St. Lucie County. Please en-US consider joining our mission at the en-US upcoming Kids at Hope symposium and en-US make a difference in the lives of our en-US children. en-US en-US Richard Del Toro is the Assistant Chief of en-US Police for the City of Port St. Lucie. en-USSymposium to focus en-US on local youth DEL TORO'S DESK en-USRICHARD DEL TORO en-USTREASURE COAST Indian River State en-US College Digital Media students won 32 en-US Addy Awards for creativity and design at the en-US 2017 American Advertising Federation en-US Treasure Coast Student Show in February. en-US The competition recognized participants en-US creative spirit of excellence in the art of en-US advertising.en-US Competitors entered original designs in en-US categories such as Logo, Poster, Publication, en-US Collateral Material, Advertising, Illustraen-US-en-US tion, Art Direction and Cinematography, to en-US name a few. Stop in Today! en-USSen-USending file types other than pictures en-US through email can be one of the most en-US useful abilities that the Internet offers.en-US Picture this: Youre working on a file at en-US the office, and its a Word or Excel docuen-US -en-US ment. A colleague in another part of town en-US or another office needs to see the file. Some en-US people still take the time to print out and en-US physically deliver or fax the document to en-US their colleague, not realizing that the email en-US system can be used to deliver any kind of en-US file right to another computer.en-US Attach the file in an email message to en-US your colleague just as you would if you were en-US sending a picture. As long as your colleague en-US has the same software that you used to en-US create it, he or she should be able to save it en-US to his or her hard drive or open it just like en-US any other file. Then your colleague can en-US print the document if he or she wants or en-US handle it as needed.en-US It is however, the senders responsibility en-US to make sure that the recipients will likely en-US be able to open the file before it is sent. en-US Nothing is more frustrating than getting an en-US email message marked Heres the file you en-US wanted only to find that the file is in some en-US obscure format that youve never heard of en-US and your computer cant open it.en-US For instance, if youre planning to send a en-US Word document, find out what word en-US processor the recipient uses. Even if he is en-US also using Word, he may be using an older en-US version of Word than you are which could en-US cause a problem if he tries to open a file en-US that was created in a newer version. A quick en-US peek in the Help menu and clicking the en-US about option will tell you what version en-US your word processor is. Have your friend or en-US coworker check his version also, and then en-US try to save your document in whatever en-US version he is using. If you click Save As en-US and look at the File Type or Format en-US pull-down menu on the Save As box that en-US pops up, youll see you have the ability to en-US save your document in many different en-US formats. This puts the control of the file en-US type in your hands.en-US The same thing applies when you are en-US trying to send a picture. Make sure that its en-US a file that is saved in a format that your en-US intended recipient can open. Usually a .jpg en-US (jpeg) is a safe bet.en-US Some peoples familiarity with email en-US attachments ends with the occasional en-US picture, but once the idea of transferring en-US files that way becomes clear, a lot of en-US possibilities present themselves. Here are en-US the steps for sending a file.en-US First, you need to know where the file en-US you want to send is located on your en-US computer, and exactly what its called. So, en-US if you have a document you want to send, en-US pay attention to the file name and the en-US name of the folder that its saved in.en-US Then, when you have your e-mail en-US program open, click New Message and en-US begin to compose your message. Enter en-US the recipients e-mail address, a comment in en-US the subject field and then click the Attach en-US button (which is usually represented by a en-US paperclip icon).en-US Next, your computer will give you some en-US options. Click the appropriate button and en-US then navigate to the location on your hard en-US drive where the file that you want to send en-US resides. (Look in the same folder where you en-US saved it in, and then click on the name of en-US the file to select it.) Click OK, and the file en-US name will be listed as an attachment.en-US You can even send multiple files by en-US repeating the procedure. But remember en-US that large files do not always do well so you en-US want to keep the attachments small in size. en-US Although it is possible to send files that are en-US several megabytes in size, a good rule of en-US thumb is 100 kilobytes and smaller for most en-US e-mail remember, there are some people en-US out there that are still on dialup, downloaden-US -en-US ing a large, several megabyte file can tie up en-US the recipients email for hours if theyre still en-US on dialup.en-US This should cover most office documents en-US such as Word files, but size can be a en-US problem with a file that is rich with en-US graphics. To check a files size when you go en-US to attach it, right-click it and then click en-US Properties. The next window that opens en-US should tell you how large the file is.en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. Just steps from the en-US ocean, Archies is famous for its incredible en-US burgers, cold beer and lets not forget the en-US pirate theme.en-US Archies was established in 1947 as a milien-US -en-US tary shack that served beer to the soldiers en-US stationed on South Beach. In 1994, Patty en-US McGee purchased the location from en-US Archies family and expanded the restaurant en-US into what we know today. en-US What many might not know about Ms. en-US McGee is that she has turned Archies into a en-US fundraising machine. Well there are 34 en-US million Americans with Irish en-US heritage, seven times more than Ireland. en-US Maybe its because of their rich contribuen-US -en-US tion to Americas history. en-US As a chef its all about the food for me, en-US and I am not talking about green eggs and en-US all the food people dye on that special day. en-US Yuck, what a turn off, even the kids dont en-US like it. en-US I am talking about the real stuff. Corned en-US beef and cabbage, and I personally like en-US potatoes so I cook both with my corned en-US beef. Corned by the way, refers to the large en-US rock kernels of salt used to brine the beef. en-US They were called corn of salt. I love corned en-US beef hash and poached eggs. en-US One of my all-time favorites is pastrami en-US on rye, which is smoked corned beef bet en-US you didnt know that! My wifes favorite is a en-US Reuben sandwich, corned beef, sauerkraut, en-US Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing grilled en-US to a golden brown. en-US If you love corned beef like I do, try my en-US corned beef hamburger with sauted onions en-US in Guinness beer. I think youll love it, too. en-US Have a great Saint Patricks Day, even if en-US youre not Irish. en-US This recipe is so good I am going to make en-US it right now!en-USCORNED BEEF BURGER en-USYield: 4 Eachen-US Ingredients en-US 1 small red onion, thinly sliced en-US 1 cup Guinness beer (This will really en-US make a difference)en-US 1/4-cup butteren-US 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard en-US 2 tablespoons mayonnaise en-US 1-1/2 teaspoons salt en-US Burgers: en-US 1-1/2 pound ground sirloin (ground en-US lamb)en-US 1 pound raw corned beef ( the grocery en-US store will be happy to grind it for you )en-US Salt and freshly ground black pepper en-US 4 slices Irish cheddar cheese, medium en-US thick (mild cheddar will do)en-US 1-1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted en-US 4 brioche or egg buns, split en-US Directions en-US Mix meats well and season with salt and en-US pepper. Looking forward to hearing from you!EOE / We drug test. S en-USpring is in the air and with that comes en-US the beautiful flowers, green lawns and en-US pesky critters. In a previous article we en-US talked about termites and roaches.en-US This week we will talk a little about en-US spiders and ants. Did you know there were en-US over 40,000 species of spiders in the world? en-US The fact is that most spiders are actually en-US beneficial and they eat a huge number of en-US undesirable insects in your yard or home en-US (up to 100 per year per spider!). The en-US problem is that many people are deathly en-US afraid of these tiny creatures. It is partly due en-US to the four varieties of spiders that are en-US poisonous. The only spiders we need to fear en-US are the brown recluse, black widow, yellow en-US sac and hobo. In actuality, you are usually en-US within range of a spider wherever you are at en-US any given time. You might not see him, but en-US he is there. Remember, 99 percent of all en-US spiders are harmless.en-US In our region, we need to be most en-US concerned with two types, the brown en-US recluse and black widow. The brown recluse en-US lives up to his name very well. Most en-US inspections will not allow you to visibly en-US find these guys as they love dark, moist en-US areas. The bite is very painful and requires en-US immediate medical attention. The venom en-US will immediately begin to eat away at the en-US tissue causing a painful sore. This spider en-US can be identified by a violin shaped en-US markings on its back. en-US The black widow spider does not like en-US confrontation and will usually try to run en-US away from you rather than just attack. They en-US will usually only bite if provoked to do so. en-US They are identified by the famous hour en-US glass symbol on their abdomen. If bitten, en-US immediate medical attention is usually en-US required. en-US Many other harmless spiders can bite but en-US usually it will be a matter of local swelling en-US similar to what you might get from a en-US mosquito bite.en-US If you want to keep your home as spider en-US free as possible, try using the non-chemical en-US solution of soap and water. Simply use your en-US favorite dish soap and add enough water to en-US make the solution easy to spray or apply. en-US Use along window sills, baseboards, around en-US pipes or anywhere a small creature might be en-US able to enter the home. You can also get an en-US insecticidal soap mixture at your favorite en-US garden center. Using the en-US soap solutions are not only en-US good for the environment en-US but it is also good for you en-US since you are avoiding the en-US use of dangerous chemicals. en-US Another natural method for en-US use outdoors is a salt and en-US water solution. Mix about en-US an ounce of table salt in a en-US gallon of water and spray or en-US apply around the perimeter en-US of your house. Keep the en-US solution away from your en-US plants as the salt water en-US solution can kill them as en-US well.en-US Ants are one of the most common insects en-US on the planet and can be found everywhere, en-US including your home. They come in all sizes en-US and shapes and they seek or eat a variety of en-US foods. The best way to keep ants of the en-US house is by prevention. Be sure to look for en-US old caulking that might be cracked or en-US peeling away around windows and doors. en-US Repair as necessary. Be sure to keep plants en-US from touching the structure. Ants can use en-US the branches as highways. Be sure all sweets en-US and leftovers are covered tightly. It also en-US helps to clean the crumbs from your toaster en-US regularly. en-US If you do encounter ants in your home, en-US there are a number of methods you can use en-US to eradicate them. There are a large variety en-US of ant traps out there that are safe to use en-US because the ingredients are stored within en-US the trap and you do not handle them en-US directly. For a more natural approach, try en-US baiting the ants with cream of wheat cereal. en-US The ants will eat the cereal and afterward, en-US the mixture expands and kills the ant. I en-US have also heard of folks using pancake en-US syrup as bait in small low containers. The en-US ants find the mixture and die because they en-US get trapped by the sticky solution. These en-US methods will work for most common house en-US ants. If you have fire ants, that will require a en-US whole different article. en-US As you can see you can often control en-US pests with common household products en-US you already have on your shelves. Using en-US these natural methods are good for you and en-US the environment. en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape. This allows en-US organizers time to fill spots left open and en-US give those players ample time to make en-US travel arrangements and more.en-US Tiger Woods has won the Arnold en-US Palmer Invitational seven times. This year en-US marks the first time the event is being held en-US since Palmers passing. Other than the en-US majors, there is no other event on the en-US schedule that Tiger would love to play in en-US and honor the games King. His two en-US children, Sam and Charlie, were both born en-US at the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women en-US and Babies. Just a day before the commiten-US -en-US ment deadline, Tiger announced that he en-US would not play in this years event.en-US The greatest player of this generation en-US continues to nurse bask spasms, and if en-US comments from his peers are true, he is en-US not physically well. In his brief return from en-US a 17-month hiatus, Woods has played just en-US three competitive rounds, including a en-US withdrawal in Dubai after his first round.en-US With all of this bad news, his fans and en-US golf fans everywhere may be faced with a en-US world where Tiger never plays another en-US competitive round again. This leaves us en-US with a burning question. What could be en-US Tigers next career?en-US Tiger has already started designing en-US courses. He has seven courses and a en-US practice facility on his resume. For the en-US sake of argument, or in this case fun, lets en-US assume he doesnt already have a new en-US career planned.en-US He could be a golf commentator. en-US Imagine him in the booth with Johnny en-US Miller. The pair of them ripping apart the en-US swings and poor shots of the competitors en-US week in and week out. Better yet, put him en-US in the booth with Sir Nick Faldo. Sure you en-US have more majors Tiger, but Nick is a en-US Knight. A real gosh darn Knight. Thats en-US something beyond even Tigers great en-US reach.en-US After lugging his clubs around for all en-US those years, perhaps Stevie Williams could en-US use some help on his Australian racing en-US team. Tiger could be in charge of bringing en-US the tires to the pits. Those have to be en-US nearly as heavy as that bag Williams had to en-US carry around. Sadly, that may not be good en-US for Tigers back. Instead, well put him in en-US charge of handing the water bottle to en-US Stevie every time he comes in for tires and en-US fuel. en-US Tigers restaurant in Jupiter is quite en-US successful and has received praise from en-US some of the industrys best. Maybe he en-US could become like chef Gordon Ramsey en-US with his own restaurant show on cable en-US television. Heck, he has the language en-US portion down already.en-US Courses are always looking for rangers. en-US Put Tiger in a cart and let him go after en-US those slow playing fools. Of course, he en-US would likely become bored and spend his en-US time digging in the palmettos looking for en-US balls. Then, once he finds one of those old en-US Nike golf balls, his mind may drift away to en-US a time when he was on top of the golf en-US world. In other words, he would fit right en-US in.en-US Continuing in the golf world, Tiger may en-US wish to ply his talents as a golf ball diver. en-US Imagine his lean, fit self squeezed into a en-US wetsuit diving the lakes of golf courses, en-US pulling out those old Pinnacles to resell. It en-US would fit into his need for a bit of danger, en-US as he may have to contend with alligators, en-US snakes, and snapping turtles looking to en-US keep those lovely orbs for themselves.en-US Since he was quite good at tweaking his en-US clubs and noticing slight variations in en-US those he tested, he could always become a en-US custom club builder. I can picture him en-US putting together the best possible driver en-US for an octogenarian only to see the ball fly en-US 95 yards on a good swing.en-US There is always acting. Why not? We en-US need a new James Bond and its high time en-US that an American got the part. He likes en-US gadgets and cars, so toss him a watch with en-US a laser and an Aston Martin with an en-US ejectable passenger seat and hes good to en-US go.en-US Another thought is comedy. He is good en-US friends with former president Barrack en-US Obama. I can see the two of them putting en-US together a Martin and Lewis type skit. en-US They could play the Vegas Strip, hitting all en-US the old spots that the Rat Pack made en-US famous. Maybe the duo could make a few en-US movies. I can see the next batman and en-US Robin movie starring the pair. Somehow I en-US think it would be two Batmen as neither en-US would want second billing.en-US Finally, Tiger could just sit around his en-US beautiful home, count his money and play en-US with his kids. en-US Whatever he decides, I hope its not en-US forced upon him by injury. Hope you get en-US well Tiger so you dont have to look into en-US the Walmart Greeter opening here in en-US town.en-US James Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years.
