Abstract:
Holistic design approaches the needs of all persons who may be visiting a space. This honors portfolio features two projects with concepts focused on holistic design. Each project has a different approach in how the holistic design is used and various architectural and design elements to achieve the conceptual goal. The first project is an evidence-based design healthcare project focused on the holistic care of staff, patients, and family. The hospitality driven design approach ensures that all guests to the hospital feel secure in their experience. The concept is achieved through architectural movements of conceal/reveal, layering, and transformation; developing into a transformative process that evolves from the first floor to the second floor. There is a heavy focus on space planning: the first floor is orthagonally based, in relation to the very streamlined processes of the clinical practices that take place on this floor. The second floor incorporates more organic elements, this is in relation to the curative processes that take place on this floor. The second project, Simply Specs, is focused on a "whole person" experience and being exposed to the beautiful details of nature. The business strategy and design is defined by personable customer service and the well-being of all guests to the retail store. An open concept design allows customers to feel the freedom to explore the store, while "paths" designed through flooring and ceiling patterns, and display case placement guides guests to the merchandise. Various options of consultation zones give the employees the advantage of recognizing a guest's comfort zone and applying that to their sales experience. ( en )
