Hagner, USNS en-US Lummus ships master, who has been with en-US the Lummus for more than 20 years. I like en-US en-US We often maintain the ships cranes, ramp, en-US and all the systems, and its nice to put them en-US through their rigors.en-US Aside from the conventional support that en-US an MPS might provide, the ship is capable en-US of supporting the military services in other, en-US more unconventional ways.en-US According to Hagner, the en-US Lummus established a re-en-US fueling station during the en-US en-US en-US We carry 36,000 barrels of en-US fuel as part of the capability en-US set of the ship; said Hagner. en-US Usually the Marines keep en-US the vehicles fueled to three-en-US quarters full. en-USNATIONAL en-US MARITIME DAY, en-US FLEET WEEK en-US NEW YORK, en-US AREA COMMAND en-US MANNING en-US STUDIES en-USFrom Commander, Military en-US Sealift Commanden-US On May 22 we joined with en-US communities around the nation to en-US celebrate National Maritime Day, a en-US day for celebration as well as a day en-US of remembrance. en-US The United States has always been, and will remain a maritime nation. en-US For this reason, merchant mariners, the shipbuilding and repair en-US industry, and maritime companies have been crucial to American en-US economic prosperity since the founding of our nation. en-US In 1933, Congress declared National Maritime Day to commemorate en-US the American steamship Savannahs voyage from the United States to en-US en-US with steam propulsion. en-US National Maritime Day has evolved to become so much more. We now en-US recognize the importance of the maritime industry to our economic en-US en-US en-US mariners. In World War II, our merchant mariners and their shipmates en-US en-US the Indian Ocean, and even within the Arctic Circle. During that war, en-US more than 250,000 members of the American Merchant Marine served en-US their country, with about 8,300 mariners killed at sea and 12,000 en-US wounded. en-US That same sense of commitment and call to service is on display en-US today as our Department of Defense (DoD) mariners at Military Sealift en-US Command remain ready, relevant, and resolute as they boldly sail the en-US worlds oceans providing assured logistics and specialized support to en-US en-US On May 22, we pause in memorial to our merchant mariner shipmates en-US en-US en-US stepped forward to carry on our DoD mariner tradition.en-US Let us keep all maritime professionals and their families in our thoughts en-US as they work for the safety, security and prosperity of our nation. en-USen-USOver the Memorial Day weekend Military Sealift Command mariners en-US and ships participated in Fleet Week New York (FWNY), hosting tours en-US and engaging with the public. FWNY provided an opportunity for en-US the citizens of New York City and the surrounding tristate area to en-US meet Sailors, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and DoD and commercial en-US en-US maritime services. en-US en-US en-US en-US Our presence at this event highlighted two of our strategic pillars: en-US our people and our platforms.en-US Community relations events such as these provide an opportunity en-US for the public to meet our mariners and learn about the vital role they en-US play in providing on-time logistics, strategic sealift, and specialized en-US mission support anywhere in the world. The crews of City of en-US Bismarck and Maury represented the thousands of professional en-US and dedicated mariners working at or under contract for MSC. en-US en-US two of our newest ships and learn how these ships operate and the en-US variety of missions they support around the world.en-US Im proud that we took advantage of this great opportunity to en-US educate and inform the public about our mariners and the unique en-US en-US en-US ship masters and chief engineers, and mariners who participated in en-US Fleet Week New York events. Thank you for proudly representing en-US Military Sealift Command.en-USen-USOne of the enumerated tasks in Navigation Track edition 2 is en-US to Conduct a zero-based billet review of the staff serving in the en-US headquarters, detachments, area commands, and Maritime en-US Prepositioning Squadrons. The purpose of this review is to en-US determine if our command is sized and organized appropriately, en-US and to validate missions, functions, and tasks.en-US Our Voyage Plan gives us a blueprint for where we are heading in the en-US en-US forward thinking and aligned with the Voyage Plan. Our manning en-US en-US en-US the past decades. Times have changed and how we allocate and en-US position our most precious resource, our people, must keep pace en-US with the new maritime.en-US The process to conduct an assessment and validation of the Area en-US Commands manpower requirements have begun with MSCLANT en-US and MSCPAC. Reviews at MSCEURAF, MSCCENT, and MSCFE will en-US take place later this year. The process for the reviews includes data en-US gathering, data analysis, on-site visits and reporting of the analysis. en-US The data will be gathered in a transparent method, where each en-US employee is requested to submit a task list, whether they are en-US competency aligned or on the area command staff. Employee-en-US provided workload data will be studied and validated through en-US research, observation and interviews. Ive asked our manpower en-US en-US operations from the Area Commanders perspective.en-US Id ask that team members at the Area Commands look at this en-US review as an opportunity, not a hazard. You have the chance to en-US provide direct and meaningful input on the best way to organize and en-US man our staffs for the future. en-US Thank you to the Headquarters N1 staff for organizing and en-US conducting the reviews and to the staffs at the Area Commands who en-US will provide the critical data needed to make each review successful. en-US United We Sail, en-US Rear Adm. Dee L. Mewbourne, en-US commander, Military Sealift Command. Let us en-US keep all our nations mariners in our thoughts en-US and prayers as they contribute courageously to en-US the security and prosperity of our nation.en-US In 1933, Congress designated May 22 as National en-US en-US merchant marine and the maritime industry en-US to American economic prosperity and national en-US defense.en-US Im proud to celebrate National Maritime day, en-US a day where we honor American mariners who en-US have served the U.S. admirably in time of war en-US and crisis, including many who have made the en-US en-US Buzby, Maritime Administrator. By delivering en-US supplies and equipment to our military forces en-US overseas, and commercials partners here at en-US home and to other nations, our mariners have en-US helped establish and sustain our way of life. en-US Merchant mariners have been instrumental en-US en-US en-US logistics battles in human history by moving en-US and delivering supplies that enabled the Allied en-US victory in World War II.en-US en-US General Dwight D. Eisenhower said, When en-US en-US will share its credit more deservedly than the en-US Merchant Marine.en-US en-US USNS City of Bismarck (T-EPF 9) hosted 2,550 visitors during Fleet Week en-US New York 2018, May 23-28 at State University New York Maritime College en-US en-US en-US Creek in Norfolk, Virginia, for transit up the East River to New York, May en-US 23 to participate in the week-long celebration with 13 other ships. Fleet en-US Week New York is the citys time-honored celebration of the sea services, en-US and an opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding en-US tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen as well as en-US en-US Community relations events such as these provide an opportunity for en-US the public to meet MSC mariners and learn about the vital role they play en-US in providing on-time logistics, strategic sealift, and specialized mission en-US support anywhere in the world, said Rear Adm. Dee Mewbourne, en-US commander, Military Sealift Command.en-US Throughout the week, USNS City of Bismarck received visits from en-US thousands of students and residents from the local community, including en-US en-US Cadets, Catholic Youth Organization cadets and Star of the Sea Cadets. en-US Programs such as these aim to promote the core values of self-discipline, en-US en-US community and use military and liberal arts sciences to build students en-US skills in leadership, communication, academics, social emotional wellness en-US en-US Our visit to USNS City of Bismarck supported our mission and showed en-US the cadets that after completing high school, they too could have the en-US opportunity to serve their country and have the privilege to work on an en-US impressive ship like USNS City of Bismarck, said Col. Dave Laguer, en-US Corps Commander for New York Grey Cadets.en-US Eight U.S. Navy reservists were also embarked on USNS City of Bismarck en-US to help facilitate tours throughout the week. The embarked Sailors not en-US only had the chance to interact with visitors but were also able to interact en-US with the civilian mariners aboard the ship. en-US It was an outstanding opportunity for myself, as a mariner and a member en-US of the U.S. Navy Reserves, it felt great to be that bridge between the two en-US groups because although we work side-by-side together, we infrequently en-US have the opportunity to actually work together in a capacity where we en-US learn from each other, said Lt. Christopher Jackson.en-US Military Sealift Command accepted delivery of USNS City of Bismarck in en-US en-US en-US later this year. Every newly built MSC ship has to undergo FCT ensuring en-US compliance that all contractual obligations are met for the safe and proper en-US operation of the ship and equipment. For some crewmembers, Fleet Week en-US New York was the icing on the cake.en-US We received a 9.4 which is the highest amongst all EPFs! said Anthony en-US Hayes, Second Engineer aboard USNS City of Bismarck. After doing so en-US well during Final Contract Trials and all the hard work we put in, coming en-US here to Fleet Week, seeing the kids faces, the parents, teachers, and en-US en-US refreshing. en-US en-US a Bismarck, North Dakota, native and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, en-US Kings Point graduate shared her most memorable moment of the voyage en-US with Sons of the American Legion Radio during an interview. en-US I really enjoyed planning that trip up the East River more than anything en-US Ive done in the past, said Evenson. I know the area well from having en-US gone to school out here and visiting as a kid, and just to see the landmarks en-US and the river from my own ship, named after my hometown, on a voyage en-US that I planned is really indescribable. en-US We had a very successful Final Contract Trial, a great testament to the en-US skill and preparation of the crew, said Capt. James Regan, master, USNS en-US City of Bismarck. Fleet Week felt like a great reward to be able to give to en-US those guys and gals who did that work. It was an honor to be selected to en-US go and it was a really enjoyable event for the entire crew.

en-USCOMFEX 18: USNS COMFORT LOOKS FORWARD, STANDS READY en-USMilitary Sealift Commands hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) en-US returned to Naval Station Norfolk, May 16, after completing a seven-day en-US en-US 2018.en-US en-US designed to prepare and test the capabilities of the ships medical en-US professionals through a battery of training evolutions, ensuring readiness en-US to support major combat operations (MCOs) and rapidly answer any en-US emergent crisis.en-US en-US mariners, joint service members, active and reserve, along with civilian en-US medical professionals and educators. KAISER PROVIDES LOGISTICS SERVICES en-US TO USS JOHN C. STENNIS STRIKE GROUPen-USOff the coast of Southern California, since April 16, Military Sealift en-US en-US en-US Stennis (CVN 74) carrier strike group as they conducted pre-deployment en-US en-US Through a series of 18 replenishments-at-sea (RAS), Kaiser delivered 740 en-US pallets of food, parts and equipment, as well as retrieving 61 Pallets of en-US en-US million gallons of jet fuel and 6 million gallons of diesel ship fuel.en-US en-US en-US by Kaiser the past few weeks, not only enables the strike group to remain en-US en-US period, but also makes it easier for the ship to receive supplies and mail.en-US en-US en-US or humanitarian disasters.en-US Buckley said training objectives were tackled by establishing a bench en-US en-US en-US tracking the casualties to the hospital and the level of care they require.en-US en-US place and anywhere in the world, said Buckley. Dont our nations sons en-US and daughters deserve that? en-US Comfort is the third U.S. Navy ship to bear the name Comfort. Comfort en-US was built as a San Clemente-class oil tanker in 1976 by the National en-US Steel and Shipbuilding Company. Her original name was S.S. Rose City en-US and the ship was launched from San Diego.en-US The ships career as an oil tanker ended when it was delivered to the U.S. en-US Navy as USNS Comfort Dec. 1, 1987. en-USRASing is easier for the crews of the strike group ships to receive goods en-US at sea and to directly stock them when they have a full crew onboard, en-US en-US en-US have a duty section to work with.en-US Successful RASing requires a number of considerations; weather, size of en-US the ships, geographic location, cargo moving. For the logistics department, en-US the name of the game is communication and planning.en-US We are in contact with the ships requiring supplies and fuel, said en-US Sigmon. Communication is the key, so we can ensure the logistics en-US en-US know in advance, so we can gather pre-delivery guidance, but sometimes en-US things come up at the last minute that we have to coordinate. The better en-US we communicate, in these instances, the smoother things go at sea.en-US For over 100 years, the Navy has been conducting replenishments-at-en-US sea, and for the dedicated and highly professional crew of Kaiser and en-US MSC, its business as usual, but, for the ships of a carrier strike group en-US such as the USS John C. Stennis, its the ability to stay on station and to en-US carry on with the mission at hand whether deployment to a war zone, or en-US

Michael Grogan, Brashears civil service master, en-US en-US of operations. Due to the size difference between the ships; Brashear at en-US en-US Station pier area, maneuvering into position was the most challenging en-US part of the mission for Brashears crew. en-US Going outboard to Bob Hope is really the challenge for this operation, en-US en-US Bob Hope is tricky. It takes a lot of attention to detail and good seamanship en-US to bring the ships alongside each other. Its challenging, but it is also a en-US en-US Once alongside Bob Hope and within feet of each other, cargo operations en-US en-US Force equipment, including generators, were transferred from the pier, en-US across Bob Hopes deck and loaded onto Brashear. en-USFIRST ROBOT-ASSISTED SURGERY ABOARD USNS MERCY: en-US MULTINATIONAL SURGEONS SLICING INTO THE FUTUREen-USen-US en-US 2018 (PP18) and Sri Lankan surgeons, assigned to Base Hospital Mutur, en-US en-US Commands hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) on May 4.en-US The joint team of multinational surgeons and medical professionals successfully en-US en-US en-US time the Da Vinci Robot has been used on a live patient aboard a maritime en-US vessel from any country.en-US This was a historic moment for both Sri Lanka and all the partner nations en-US participating in PP18, said Lt. Cmdr. Kyle Gadbois, director of surgical services en-US en-US en-US en-US en-US en-US Prior to the actual surgery on May 4, Gadbois along with Dr. Vyramuthu en-US Varanitharan, a general surgeon at Base Hospital Mutur, and Cmdr. Tamara en-US Worlton, a surgeon from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center assigned en-US en-US en-US This surgery took a lot of planning before we actually performed it aboard en-US the Mercy, said Worlton. Dr. Varanitharan was kind enough to prescreen en-US possible candidates prior to the Mercys arrival to Sri Lanka.en-US On May 28, the team selected a patient who needed a cholecystectomy and was en-US willing to have a robotic-assisted surgery performed. According to Worlton, all en-US the preparation and collaboration put into planning before the operation paid en-US off and the entire surgery was completed in a smooth and routine manner.en-US I believe the surgery was a success because of the continuous collaboration en-US between our partner nations medical staff prior to the surgery where we en-US discussed different surgical techniques the different countries do and how it en-US could be incorporated into the surgery.en-US en-US en-US career.en-US en-US surprised me, said Varanitharan. It is very stable and doesnt move around. en-US It felt as if I was doing surgery in an operating room in a hospital. It was a en-US en-US something my team and I will never forget.en-US en-USThis wouldnt normally be the way we would do this kind of a loadout, en-US en-US Everett, this was really the only way for us to get this equipment aboard en-US and over to Hawaii in time for RIMPAC.en-US en-US Hawaii where it will deliver the Air Force cargo. Once in Hawaii, the en-US en-US participating in RIMPAC.en-US After the surgery was successfully completed, the patient was transferred to en-US the Mercys post anesthesia care unit to recover and was later discharged from en-US en-US Varanitharan. en-US en-US en-US includes military and civilian personnel from the United States, Canada, United en-US Kingdom, Australia, France, Peru, and Japan.en-US USNS Mercy made previous stops in the 2018 mission in Bengkulu, Indonesia en-US and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and are currently in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. en-US After departing Sri Lanka, USNS Mercy will make mission stops in Vietnam en-US and Japan strengthening alliances, partnerships, and multilateral cooperation en-US en-US en-US nation military and civilian personnel working side-by-side with host nation en-US counterparts to be better prepared for potential humanitarian aid and disaster en-US response situations.

Kaiser-class ship, transferred more en-US than 13,000 gallons of fuel to the KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata (FFG-en-US 331), a Martadinata-class guided-missile frigate of the Indonesian en-US Navy.en-US Indonesia is an important partner in the region and drills like this en-US help promote interoperability, enhance our partnership and increase en-US Theater Security Cooperation, said Capt. Robert R. Williams, en-US commander of MSC Far East. We have worked with the Indonesian en-US en-US and those are great opportunities to foster that military-to-military en-US relationship with them. The UNREP is our way of building a Navy-to-en-US Navy relationship with the Indonesians. In doing so, we are helping en-US their Navy increase capacity.en-US In April, MSCs dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Washington en-US Chambers (T-AKE 11) conducted an UNREP with a Royal Malaysian en-USen-US replenishment oiler USNS Leroy Grumman (T-AO 195) performed night en-US en-US (SQT) with the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) pier-side, at en-US Naval Station Norfolk, May 11.en-US The training evolution gave both ships the opportunity to hone their skills en-US at delivering and receiving supplies and fuel in a controlled environment.en-US Leroy Grumman just completed a mid-term availability (MTA) in the en-US Detyens Shipyard which lasted about 11 weeks, said Captain Richard en-US Gray, Leroy Grummans master. Performing SQTs with the Ford provided en-US refresher training in UNREP Rig Operations to crew-members after a long en-US period of operational inactivity.en-US The pier side SQTs also provided Leroy Grumman a chance to check out en-US its UNREP equipment, which was repaired and maintained during the en-US MTA, added Gray.en-US Under way replenishments at sea gives the U.S. Navy the ability to re-en-US supply its ships while underway thus giving them the ability to remain on en-US station for longer periods of time.en-US In port SQTs at night are very unusual, according to Gray.
