FORE WORD
The carlot unloads in Kansas City for 1938 amounted to 11,766 cars
co ared with 12,217 in 1937 and 13,969 in 1936. This is a reduction in the total
nuber of cars unloaded in 198 of 4% from the 1937 figure and 16% from the 1936
figure. The truck receipts (our record of which is probably 90% accurate) show an
increase of 427 carload equivalents in 1938 over 1937, or 3,382 carloads in 1938
compared with 2,955 in 1937. By adding together the carlot unloads and the truck
receipts in carload equivalent we have the a proximate figure of 15,648 cars in
1938 to copare with 15172 cars in 1937. This indicatesa shift to truck transp
ortation an actul increase of about 4% in unloads during 1938 over those of
1937.
The following States originated more than 500 each of Kansas Citys unloaded
cars in 1938; (comparisons are given for 1937 and 1936):
1938 1937 1936
California 2B8 2 4 3t14
Colorado 842 1,390 1,652
Florida 650 443 469
Louisiana 508 682. 599
Idaho 1 651 1,489 1,639
Texas 1,438 1,719 1,603
Imports* 1,225 1,312 1,101
*all Bananas except 2 cars of Dates.

The following tables have been compiled from our daily and monthly arrival,
unload and diversion records. While these tables are intended primarily for
practical use by growers and haidlers of fruit and vegetable products, every effort
as been made to make them strictly accurate for statistical purposes.
