ObituaryJoanE.Lunn or "Joey" as she was affectionately called, was the fourth childofCharles and Evelyn Lunn. Shegre.wupon Colebrook Lane, the loving sisterofPatricia (Patsy Treco), Charles (Junior) and Leslie (deceased). From an early age, Joey wanted to be a nurse and would frequently accompany her much-loved cousin, the lateDr.Kenneth Rodgers, when he made house calls. Joey attendedKindergarten at Mrs. Cample-John, followed by primary and secondary school atQueen'sCollege. After a few months at the Princess Margaret Hospital, familiarising herself with the medical world, Joey went to England in 1958 to pursue her nursing and midwifery studies at Brighton General Hospital. After becoming an RN, she pursuedpostgraduate courses in theatre (surgery) and ophthalmic studies. She returned to the Bahamas in October, 1964 where she worked as a Sister on the surgical ward at the Princess Margaret Hospital. From 1966 to 1967, Joey worked in Denmark where she gained further experience as a Nursing Sister. On her return to the Bahamas, Joey worked at the Lyford Cay Hospital for nine years. She then entered private nursing and was a highly sought after nursing professional. She had very high standards and her concern was always with what was best for her patients. Joey was possessedofa tremendous joie de vivre and was always a lotoffun to be with. She specialised in gourmet cooking. Joey was a founding memberofthe Private Nurses Registry Limited, which was established on the 30th October 1996. The company supplied private home health services and also supplied3


nurses for the Physicians Alliance Limited and the Princess Margaret Hospital. She was the first treasurerofthe company and wasanactive partofthe companyasa Director at the timeofher death. Joey passed from this life on Saturday evening July 7th, 2001 while attempting to protect her patient from harm. The ironyofitisshe died while carrying out the dutiesofthe profession to which she dedicated her life and loved so dearly. The nation has lost a precious soulina profession that is yet toberecognized at the level that it should be.
