MARKET GARDEfNNG IN FLORIDA.
Gen. ars all, Agent of the New England Emigrant Aid Co pany, his written alette dated Jacksonville, Feb 9 7, i speaks at some length t r
ing'In Forida,asfollows

My beueful Hehs sixty acres ofan which he took without expec ii, t r ly t all on the Jacksonville iaret I But the demand has bee i so great or his produce, that he not only has no chanc- t eend anyhing north, which it was hit PiginIitention to do, but his vegetables asxpot allowed reclach maturity before they are sold.
He has sold during th year, o ie Feb. 22d, 1866, (when he took possession) more than $70 worth, besides what his family o dI Amed from a garden of about five acres. Duri ng that time he has built himself a two story house, shed, etc., and fences. Hi ored himseIf on the house, being a mehanic and knowing but little about farbing. The garen was taken are of byoe colored man. He expects this year to se1 froni eleven ae q nville, $2,500 1or1
of egetables and hopes also to end something North. He is setting out an ag
g-v~e and other fruit tres 1d1i ba ,e in five y s a lu b and betidf lce,
which i sell for three times its a t and which will produ e him $6,000 to $ ,0(% per annum.
His sixty acres lie on the bk of t St. Jhn's River, where he can ship di et to Sayaia( by steamer and probably ere long to Ne York. He gays the expenses o living ar about th same as at the north he pufohases his uplies in Jacksonvill. J he were to order his supplies from New York theexpenses would ifp less. A house lik hisy twenty feet by thirty, two stories and an tic2 can be built for $500 if not pl4ste 1 has now one man and his own boy old enoh to drive to market, a mule and cat. He ends his boy to market ea1y in the morning one and ne h If miles, dispos o his vegetable( and takes back a load of sta0 manur e for which he pays by dry grass for bdig, cut o rm the feld or swamp without trouble or cost other than the time of man. This manure gtes into his hog pen With muck from the swamp, is worked over and applied. ,~ He begin to plant his winter garden in October. Some begin as early s Augusat.Cabbags, beet, ish, peas, etc., grow
best in winter. Corn, melons, sweet potacuttings of the vines and plants them. The yield is abundant with lttle cre. From a patch measuring thirty feet by one hundred1 and seventy five, he has sold this winter to the amount of $74 cash has used about $15 wort h and has about $25.worth remaining in the ground. His vegetables are growing fely, without a weed and look as if they were set out in a bed of house sand whch is the general appearance of the soi about here. The man of whom Col. R. bought the land, said that he considered the spot wre these vegetables are growing as worthless, having tried in vain to make anythig grow upo it. 4 little manure has made it the most productive piece of ground i this neighborhood.
Before the war, cabbages, (a small inferior kind) were sold to the Sa anah steamers at $20 per hundred. There can be no question but that market garde.cing in this vicinity can be carred on profitably to ani idefinite extent, relying upon northern 'markets which cain be supplied from here in advance of any other part of the United States. The piric obtained for market vegetables is arbitrary and fluctuating. Col. R. got twenty five cents to fifty cents each for cabbages.--Beets and turips at all prices, generally twenty five cents for five, the, price of oranges. Hie sold one turnip two and one half months from planting, weighing nine pounds and measuring twenty eight inches rond for thirty five cents. As producers multiply, the prices of vegetables will becme regulated, but the market is not half supped now, (all vegetables on the hotel tables in Jaeksonville this witer being im ported from New York), and as consumiers are multiplying rapidly the business is not likely to he overdone for years. Oranges are now selling for shipment at $3 50 and peOOnr hundrec aconrdincg to quality.
