Building the Dutch Caribbean Digital Platform : a community based approach The Dutch Caribbean Digital Platform is designed as a community platform. We have chosen a cooperative model to work with key partners in the community, such as other libraries, archives, museums, cultural heritage organizations, schools and other knowledge and research institutes. Thus we created a win win situation: we offer our infrastructure, experience and knowledge; our partners offer their content to be shared in our platform, thereby increasing the value for all users. For further information please contact: Ms. Margo Groenewoud Head Library & Research Services (LRS), University of Curaao (UoC) m.groenewoud@uoc.cw Mr. Irwin Korstjens Coordinator Faculty Support and Library Innovation, LRS UoC i.korstjens@uoc.cw We are obtaining our goals by: implementing a cooperative model to optimize synergy implementing Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC) technology offering other institutions our infrastructure, experience and knowledge to create and share their collections connecting different materials about the same object and subject Our main objectives are to: increase the availability of local content increase the volume of local digital content create and share local digital learning material stimulate and diversify the use of local content facilitate local digitalization initiatives preserve cultural heritage Poster Presentation developed for the ACURIL XLIV Conference Libraries, Archives and Museums: Gateway To Information Literacy & Cultural Heritage 8th 12th June 2014, Nassau, Bahamas

Dutch Caribbean Digital Platform About the Dutch Caribbean Digital Platform The University of Curaao (UoC) is developing a sustainable knowledge portal for students, teachers, researchers and the wider community. This i s done in close cooperation with the Digital Library of the Caribbean (www.dloc.com), the Teacher Training department of the UoC and representatives from the teacher community. A first key focus area is the teacher community, for whom developing and sharing digital learning material, especially on local topics and or in the local language of Papiame ntu, is a top priority. For this purpose the platform also has log in and uploading functionality. Learning material however is just one of a growing number of collections in this repository. The Dutch Caribbean Digital Platform will serve as a general digital library for all: students, teachers, researchers and all interested in Dutch Caribbean knowled ge and information. Community platform Our goal is to create a community platform that can support and catalyze the realization of local digitalization initiatives. For this we have chosen a cooperative model to work with key partners in the community, s uch as other libraries, archives, museums, cultural heritage organizations, schools and other knowledge and research institutes. With this cooperation the platform not only brings our library collection in a reusable form closer to a larger group of users it also offers the possibility for other institutions to use our infrastructure, experience and knowledge to create and share their collections Thereby not only increasing the volume and availability of local digital content but also stimulating and diversifying the use and research of this material by creat ing connections between different materials about the same subjects and to create an d share local digital learning material. Our 2014-2015 action plan for implementation and further enhancement: Summer 2014: deliver working online environment with documentation August September 2014: train team of students, start acquisition of new open access collections August December 2014: run pilot aimed at adding licensed materials and testing procedures January 2015: implement standard procedures for adding open access and licensed materials A sustainable knowledge portal through which we optimize the availability and usage of our community collections and the shared creation and use of local digital learning material
