MOTIVE POWER AND CAR EQUIPMENT OF CLASS I STEAM RAILWAYS IN THE UNITED STATES
Compiled from 156 reports representing 164 steam railways #

(CLASS I SWITCHING AND TERMINAL COMPANIES INCLUDED)

FOR FIVE MONTHS ENDED WITH MAY 1955 AND 1954

# Excludes returns of the Atlanta and West Point R. R.; the Clinohfield R. R. and the Georgia R. R. which filed no reports because of strike.
Cumulative figures shown in this statement represent averages of the number of units of equipment reported at the close of each month within the cumulative period.
The averages are computed for each railway separately and then totaled.
Returns for diesel electric locomotives represent the number of locomotives, i.e., any combination of locomotive units operated under a single control at the close of each month.
