Smathers Libraries has received a National E ndowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant to greatly expand existing free and open access to historical news through the Florida Digital Newspaper Library (FDNL) and Chronicling America. The new content will include 100,000 pages of historical newspapers, wi th approximately half coming from the state of Florida and the other half featuring Spanish language papers via a partnership with the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras. The workshop will include: Contents and functionality of the FDNL and re sources for assisting patrons Digitizing newspapers: a brief look at the National Digital Newspaper Project (NDNP) Contents and functionality of Chronicling America, including the U.S. Newspaper Directory History and future of the FDNL Additional resources for locating and accessing news Trainer: Patrick Reakes, University of Florida, Smathers Libraries Register for: Expanding Access to Historical News HERE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NEFLIN classes are open to library staff in Florida only.
