Abstract:
Blackbeard, or "Trygborg," Castle, was built in 1680, on St. Thomas, V.I. The lime and mortar four-storied structure, was one of the three fortifications built by the Danes to protect the harbor. The façade of the building with it's flagpole, served to send naval signals, and was a strategic lookout point before being converted to a hotel/guest house.
