Under authority conferred by law upon the Secretary of Agriculture, B. A. I.
Order 276, dated August 18, 1922, and effective November 1, 1922, as amended,
is hereby further amended in the following particulars:
Paragraph 6, section 4, regulation 19, is revoked and in lieu thereof the
following paragraph is prescribed:
PARAGRAPH 6. The period for holding surviving pigs under the observa-
tion of a bureau employee, while being used for testing the potency and
purity of anti-hog-cholera serum as described in these regulations, shall
be not less than 14 days immediately following their inoculation for this
purpose and as much longer as the inspector in charge deems necessary to
render proper judgment of the results of the test.
Paragraph 2, section 9, regulation 19, is revoked and in lieu thereof the
:: following paragraph is prescribed:
., PAAGAP.PH 2. Animals used for testing serum as prescribed in para-
graph 1 of this section shall be held under the supervision of a bureau
S'Wi employee for at least 14 days, and the animals carefully examined at tlhe
sites of inoculations to determine whether the product has caused abscess
formation. Serum tested as prescribed in this section will be disposed of
: as approved by the chief of bureau.
|; ;: Paragraph 2, section 11, regulation 19, is revoked and in lieu thereof the
; following paragraph is prescribed:
| PARAGRAPH 2. The following provisions are made regarding the return
*, date shown on trade labels.of anti-hog-cholera serum:
(a) For ordinary defibrinated blood serum, and clear serum referred to
*in subdivision (a), paragraph 2, section 10, of this regulation, the date
N used shall not exceed two years from the date on which the first serum
A of the batch is collected.
.(b) For clear serum described in subdivision (6), paragraph 2, section
10, of this regulation, the date used shall not exceed three years from the
date on which the first serum of the batch is collected.
(o) For serum refined as provided in paragraph 3, section 10, of this
regulation, the date used shall not exceed two years from the date on
which the first serum of the batch is refined.
.. Paragraph 5, -section 11, regulation 19, is revoked and in lieu thereof the
S following paragraph is prescribed:
,i,; PARAGRAPH 5. Trade labels affixed to or used in connection with the
'l. immedfqte or true containers of anti-hog-cholera serum shall show the
S..quanttit of the contents of said containers, and the minimum true or pro-
tective serum present. This information shall appear conspicuously im-
.... mediately following the true name of the product and in one of the follow-
S.... ing forms:
Sl3^ (a) Quantity, c. c. containing 65 per cent protective serum.
'(b) Quantity, ,. c. c. containing 80 per cent protective serum.
i ...This amendment for the purpose of identification is designated
:f ~amendment 4 to B. A. I. Order 276 and shall become and be
ll effective .on and after March 1, 1927, except that paragraph 5,
.:,f,.. ~section 11, of regulation 19 as amended need not apply to serum
,."c collected before July 1, 1927.
