REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE COLLECTING OF BIRDS AND
THEIR NESTS AND EGGS ON FEDERAL BIRD RESERVATIONS
FOR SCIENTIFIC AND PROPAGATING PURPOSES.
By virtue of the authority conferred upon the Secre.tary of Agri-
culture by Section 84 of the Act of Congress entitled "An act to
codify, revise, and amend the penal laws of the United States,"' ap-
proved March 4, 1909 (35 Stat.. 1088). the following rules andl
regulations to permit and govern the collec(.ting of birds and their
nests and. e .ggs for scientific and propagating purlpo-cs on lands of
the United Stateo set apart and ri.,terved as ) bree( ing grounds for
birds by law. proclamation, or Executive order, are hereby pre-
scril)ed, effective June 15, 1918:

by the Secreta'ry of Agriculture.
Application s for permits must be add ir e-il to t ie Secretary of Agriculture,
Washington, I). C., and must contain the following information: The nanie of
the reservations; the time when the collection is to be nmade; the 11n;, -o of the
species and t ie number of specimens of each species desired : the Imrpose of
the collection; awnd the name and addlres- of the individual or institution mi;ak-
ing the application.
Within three montli.s after collecting birds, their nests, or .=, 1permittees
shall report to the Secretary of Agriculture the I i;,i-n of tlhe siori,.s and the
number of specinens of each species collected, the nallme of the I'-c,'vation onl
which the species were taken, the dates bet ween which tlie collectionon \\as L(le,
and tim dispositin inniadle of the sp ,ci iei s collected.
Specimens of birds alnid their iiests and tgs req uired for use in the official
Investigations of the Bureau of Biological Survey, Department of Agriculture,
may be collected by employees of the bureau in accordance with the laws of the
State or Territory in which the rc-.-ervation is situated, at such times as the
chief of said bureau may designate.
The order of April 8, 1916 (S. R. A.-B. S. 8). is hereby revoked.
