Notes

Abstract:
At UF, each digital / data collection is affiliated with one or more Curators or Program Directors, with collaborative support from the UF Curator for Digital Collections and/or the Digital Scholarship Librarian and/or Digital Development & Web Services.
General Note:
UF leverages its robust technical infrastructure to support many collaborative projects and materials from many partner institutions in a variety of ways. UF supports the full technical workflow with online curation tools and hosting of all digital files. In some cases partners host their own materials and UF ingests the metadata to have all partner materials findable and linked/referenced from the collaborative digital library hosted at UF.

Digital Curation Workflow : Ingesting Partner Records with OAI PMH Overview UF leverages its robust technical infrastructure to support many collaborative projects and materials from many partner institutions in a variety of ways. UF supports the full technical workflo w with online curation tools and hosting of all digital files In some cases partners host their own materials and UF ingests the metadata to have all partner materials findable and linked/ reference d from the collaborative digital library hosted at UF. Digital Curation Workflow for Ingesting Partner Records with OAI PMH Ingesting partner records is done in various ways, often enough with OAIPMH To ingest records from OAIPMH, open the SobekCM METS Editor and select Batch METS file creat ion. Batch METS File Creation: Harvest Metadata via OAI PMH After selecting Batch METS file creat ion, the next screen includes several options. For OAI PMH, select the final option, Harvest metadata via OAI PMH. OAI -PMH R epository URL, Testing and Confirming T he next screen asks for the primary URL for the OAI PMH repository, which should be provided by the partner. From this screen, first, test the URL to confirm that the URL is correct. Then, select Continue Page 2 of 4

OAI -PMH Batch Processor In t he OAI PMH Batch Processor select the sets to be harvested, with this information provided by the partn er. Then, select the constants which will always includ e: First BibID: full 10 digit alphanumeric BIBID; this will be used for the first record and iterate for each subsequent record Holding Location Code Source Institution Code Aggregation (can be repeated, enter for all appropriate) After the METS files are created, the Digital Curation Workflow includes reviewing one of the files to ensure all aggregations are appropriately listed, and all required elements are in place. F o r instance, if the METS files are lack Rights this may be added by updating the c onstants to include Rights with the general rights statement1 and running a new import or Digital Curators may use a text editing tool with batching support (often Dreamweaver) to quickly batch update the METS files bef ore import 1 Item available with permissions from the Holding/Source Ins titution. Updated and New Ingests from OAI PMH Records will be updated on partner systems and w ill need to be ingested again. F or records ingested using the METS Editor support for updated ingests is done with a mapping b eing retained for the OAI Identifier for a digital resource and the resulting METS ObjectID. This mapping is retained as a XML file for each repository processed. When ingesting records where a previous mapping file is found, the METS Editor will ask how to proceed: NOTE: Depending on file permissions, the mapping file will be in an OAI subfolder either under t he METS application folder or your My Documents folde r ( example: C: \ Users \ laurien \ Documents \ METS Editor \ OAI) The METS Editor will automatically find the mappings fro m the folder, which is how the METS Editor is able to ask how to reuse them on subsequent runs of the process. For Digital Curation Workflows, DPS does all ingests from OAI PMH For each ingest, a copy of the mapping file is saved to the DigitalCurationRecordIngests folder on the SAN For all new ingests, the mappings files saved here are copied to the appropriate local computer file for system referencing.
