PELT PRODUCTION: Mink pelt production in the United States in 1975 totaled
3.1 million pelts, down 2 percent from 1974. However,
Wisconsin, the major mink State, produced 915,000 pelts, up 3 percent from a
year ago.

Demi-buff and pink color classes pelt production, included in the 1969-73
estimates for pale brown, pastel and standard, were estimated as separate color
classes beginning in 1974. In 1975, demi-buff production was up 35 percent
from 1974 and pink was up 162 percent.

By color class the number of pelts as a percent of the total 1975 produc-
tion was: Standard, 30.9 percent; pastel, 22.7 percent; pearl, 10.9 percent;
demi-buff, 13.5 percent; violet, 8.3 percent and the remaining color classes
accounted for 13.7 percent.
