Abstract: Abstract: A doctorate provides unparalleled knowledge and skills for a variety of careers in and outside of universities. These competencies include: an awareness of how research is carried out and organized institutionally, advanced writing and communication abilities, attentiveness to cultural values and consumer perspectives, language skills and personal networks, and independent initiative and self-motivation. These translate into specific occupational paths such as program management, publishing, cultural affairs, and research and development. We’ll also discuss personal considerations in contemplating career choice and tips for making yourself marketable outside of the University. Speaker Bio: Since 2011, Sophia Krzys Acord has been Associate Director of the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere and Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Criminology and Law.
