(CONTINUED FROM FIRST PAGE)

RESPECTIVELY. THE AUGUST I AVERAGES
DURING THE PAST FIVE YEARS WERE 244,435,0O0'
-OUNDS AND 29,134,000 POUNDS RESPECTIVELY.
;HE-JULY INCREASE IN STOCKS WERE
RELATIVELY HEAVY THIS YEAR, BEING
:8 000 000 POUNDS FOR EVAPORATED CASE AND
6,00,600 POUNDS FOR CONDENSED CASE, WHILE
THE AVERAGE JULY INCREASES HAVE BEEN ONLY
19,000,000 POUNDS AND 700,000 POUNDS
RESPECTIVELY.

THE: REPORT OF STOCKS IN THE HANDS
)F WHOLESALE GROCERS ON JUNE 30 IS NOW
AVAILABLE AND REVEALS THAT DURING THE
:HREE MONTHS ENDED ON THAT DATE, THESE
;TOCKS INCREASED 130.0 PER CENT. LAST
'EAR'S INCREASE DUI-NG THE CORRESPONDING
-ERIOD WAS ONLY 60 PER CENT. FURTHERMORE,
:HIS YEAR'S STOCKS 0N JUNE 30 WERE 100.0
"ER CENT GREATER THAN ON JUNE 30, 1932,

SO IT IS EVIDENT THAT PART OF THE
REDUCTION OF MANUFACTURERS' INVENTORIES
DURING THE EARLY PART OF THIS YEAR WAS
AN ACCUMULATION BY WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTORS
AND NOT ENTIRELY AN INCREASE IN,ACTUAL
CONSUMPTION. THERE IS NO DOUBT, HOWEVER,
THAT CONSUMPTION OF EVAPORATED CASE IS
MUCH HEAVIER THAN A YEAR AGO.
REPORTS ON JULY PRODUCTION
COMPARED WITH JULY 1932 SHOW AN INCREASE
OF 14 PER CENT FOR EVAPORATED CARE, BUT
A DECREASE OF 8 PER CENT FORi CONDENSED
CASE. THIS MAKES THE TOTAL PRODUCTION OF
EVAPORATED MILK FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR TO
DATE SOME I2'PER CENT ABOVE THE CORRE-
SPONDING PERIOD OF 1332. BOTH CONDENSED
CASE AND BULK, HOWEVER, HAVE DROPPED
UNDER LAST YEAR'S PRODUCTION.
