STOCKS OF EVAPORATED MILK, ON
JULY I, WEPE PRACTICALLY THE SAME, OR
ONLY 0.8..PER CENT HEAVIER, THAN ON THE
SAME DATE A YEAR -AGO. THE DATE OF
HEAVIEST COMPARATIVE HOLDINGS WITHIN THE
LAST YEAR WAS ON SEPTEMBER I, 1929, WHEN
STOCKS WERE 69 PER CENT HEAVIER THAN ON
THE SAME DATE A YEAR EARLIER. THE IN-
CREASE IN HOLDINGS DURING JUNE AMOUNTED
TO 13.75 PER CENT, COMPARED WITH A 39 PER
CENT INCREASE IN JUNE LAST YEAR. THE
COMPARATIVELY SMALL INCREASE IN STOCKS
DURING JUNE THIS YEAR WAS NO DOUBT A RE-
SULT OF THE CONTINUED LIGHT PRODUCTION
AND THE FAVORABLE TRADE OUTPUT DURING
THE MONTH.

CONDENSED MILK MARKETS CONTINUE
STEADY WITH DEALERS,: GENERALLY, HOLDING
CLOSE TO ASKING PRICES. IN SOME INSTANCES
QUOTATIONS HAVE nEEN ADVANCED SLIGHTLY IN
THE FACE OF A CONTINUED LIGHT PRODUCTION
AND FURTHER REDUCTIONS IN STOCKS IN COMf
PRISON WITH A YEAR AGO. DEMAND HAS BEEN
ONLY NOMINAL. WHILE JULY I STOCKS WERE
STILL OVER II PER CENT HEAVIER THAN A

LEWO SCL8O EZ c JULY.
lllllllnlll~lH lIlmlll llllll l |llll/'

YEAR AGO, THEY APPEAR QUITE FAVORABLE
WHEN ONE CONSIDERS THAT ONLY.FOUR MONTHS
AGO THEY WERE 216 PER CENT HEAVIER THAN
THE PREVIOUS YEAR. .,THE INCREASE DURING
THE MONTH AMOUNTED TO ONLY 16 PER CENT
IN COMPARISON.WITH 41 PER CENT DURING
THE SAME MONTH A YEAR AGO. PRODUCTION
CONTINUES INCREASINGLY LIGHTER THAN A
YEAR AGO DURING JUNE THE MAKE.W!AS
AROUND 27 PER CENT UNDER THAT OF THE
SAME MONTH A YEAR AGO, AND, INSTEAD OF
SHOWING A FURTHER NORMAL SEASONAL IN-
CREASE FOR THE MONTH, WAS APPROXIMATELY
4 PER CEIT LIGHTER THAN DURING MAY, IN
COMPARISON WITH A SEASONAL INCREASE OF
AROUND 4 PER CENT DURING THE SAME MONTH
LAST YEAR.
S THE'TARIFF ACT OF 'JUNE 17, 1930
RAISES THE RATE OF DUTY OF CASE GOODS,
UNSWEETENED FROM I TO 1.8 CENTS PER POUND;
ON SWEETENED-FROM 1.5 TO 2.75 CENTS PER'
POUND; AND ON "ALL OTHER" CONDENSED AND
EVAPORATED MILK FROM I 3/8 TO 2.53 CENTS
PER POUND. _
