from 1982-83. The Pompano Beach area shipped 585,000 packages In the 1983-84 season as compared with
693,000 packages for 1982-83.

Green beans were grown throughout Florlda, but the southeast remained the dominant area. Pole beans were
grown primarily In Dade County with a small amount produced In Gadsen County.

Early growing conditions were favorable for growers in the Pompano Beach area and Dade County. Damage by
cold weather at Christmas reduced supplies from January to early March.

Shipping point prices reflected the below normal supplies. Prices for green beans packed In 30 Ib crates
for the fall period ranged from $5.00 to $9.00 with the lowest prices received early in the season while
the highest occurred the week of November 19. For the winter, prices ranged from $7.00 to 22.00. The
lowest price was received the week of December 10. Two months later, prices Jumped to the season's high of
$25.00. Prices for the month of March were ranged from $7.00 to $12.00. At season's end prices ranged
$8.00 to $10.00.

than the 5,022,000 crates shipped during 1982-83. Cold temperatures In late December ruined nearly all
fields In Central and North Florida and nearly all seed beds. South Florida, with comparatively light
acreage, was largely undamaged. Very light supplies were available until Northern Florida areas began new
harvest In late March.

Prices In early December were $3.50-$4.00 per crate or carton. By January prices were $15.00 and increased
to a high of $22.00 per crate March 10. As volume Increased, prices declined to $3.00 at close of season.

size.
