Potential Business

Spain's Honey Import Requirements Soar

Severe drought and burned out floral sources have reduced Spain's 1983 honey
crop to 4,000 metric tons, less than one-third of the average during the
previous 4 years. Spain's import needs are likely to rise to around 10,000
metric tons during the 1983/84 crop year. Spain usually imports honey in
containers over 2 kilograms and has total import duties of 15 percent.

Foreign Trade Development

Mid-East Food Exhibit. The FAS, USDA, will sponsor a solo, trade-only exhibit
of U.S. food in the Sheraton Hotel in Dubai, U.A.E., January 16, 17, and 18,
1984. The Show will be organized by Ted Horoschak, ATO, Manama, Bahrain, in
cooperation with the American Embassy in Dubai and is a follow-up to the
successful show held in Cahrain in February of this year. The event will be
publicized in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, N. Yemen, and the U.A.E. in the
hopes of drawing food importers from those countries. The maximum number of

VAILIJC LISTS

Through the use of computer technology, the Foreign Agricultural Service can

CONTACTS FOR U.S. FARM PRODUCTS

The newsletter, COKTACTS for U.S. Farm Products, is an export promotion
service offered free by the Foreign Agricultural Service to help American
companies introduce agricultural products to foreign markets. CONTACTS is
designed to help publicize the availability of U.S. agricultural products and
services in foreign markets.

The CONTACTS tradeletter will allow a U.S. supplier to advertise their product
or service in 100 words or less. The newsletter is transmitted overseas
monthly to our Agricultural Officers where they distribute it to agricultural
importers. In addition, the newsletter is translated into Japanese, Spanish,
French, Italian, and Greek.

program. While preference for participation in this program is given to
new-to-market products and new-to-export firms, all firms are invited to
