Foreign Market Developments.

Food Labelling Regulations, Saudi Arabia and Oman. Food labelling regulations for
Saudi Arabia: state that frozen products must carry a nine months expiry date from
date of packaging (Freezing). Labels with both dates preferred, printed inserts are
acceptable carrying the date information. Stickers may be used if plastic wraps tear
on removal and sticker does not interfere with label language. Ink stamps are less
acceptable. Abbreviations of month are preferred rather than numbers. Frozen
products must arrive in Saudi Arabia within 3 months of production. Processed
product does not need Moslem slaughter certificate but source raw meat must be from
Moslem approved operations. Labelling must be reflective of freedom from all pork
tissue including lard. Pre-packed food labels must include brand name and name of
product in Arabic as well as English, also dates of production and expiry,

ingredients, country of origin and net weight which must be metric. A four page
report from The Saudi Arabian Standards Organization entitled Labelling of

Oman Food Regulations: For meat require USDA export certificate and Islamic
slaughter certificate. Products must carry production and expiry dates. Expiry date
statement based on date of production is acceptable. Expiration date for poultry is
set according to recommendation of the producer. USDA recommends one year. Spell
out month. Production must be consigned to Oman. Net weight in metric. Pork
products permitted entry with appropriate labelling.

U.S. Foods Product Display Philippines. You are invited to join a Foreign
Agricultural Service (FAS) sponsored U.S. Foods Product Display in Manila,
Philippines, December 2-3, 1982. The Philippines is an important dollar market for
U.S. agricultural products, U.S. exports to that market having reached $319.2 million
in 1980. Processed or consumer-ready foods accounted for $9.1 million of this total.
