Attache $ales Reports. A large number of sales are resulting from trade leads
reported through the TORS/Export Briefs program. Spot checks by the agricultural
attaches in 1978 for about 20 percent of the trade leads revealed 86 sales totaling
over $27 million. Many of these were initial sales for which repeat orders are
anticipated. The sales covered a wide variety of fresh and processed foods, as
well as grains and other agricultural items. The reports indicated that about one
out of every five trade leads resulted in a sale within six months, and that on
the average 12 U.S. firms responded to each inquiry.
